  • This Video will cover the lives of King Alfred the Great, King Edward the Elder and Æthelstan. Over 3 generations, these legendary Kings would unify the divided land of England. England was made from 4 major Kingdoms, Mercia, Wessex, Northumbria and East Anglia. During Alfred's life the Great Heathen army led the sons of Ragnar Lodbrok had overran all of these kingdoms except Wessex which alone was resisting. War and fate would lead Alfred to sit the throne. He would bring the Vikings to heel and would restore his Kingdom to greatness.
His son Edward the Elder's life was one of military expansion, further conquering lands to the north that had been taken by the vikings during the invasion of the great army. Edward would eliminate many Viking Kings that had crowned themselves Kings in the lands they had taken. He would gain overlordship over East Anglia and Mercia.
His son Æthelstan would dream of being the master of Britain, and would become the first overlord of all of England and Scotland. However, his vassals would grow wary of his overlordship and would fight him in the Battle of Brunanburh. Æthelstan won the battle, but lost control of Scotland, with the end of his territory being the border dividing Scotland and Northumbria. In just 3 generations, the line of Alfred took all of England.

@SueDeegan8827 Lmfao! It never ceases to astonish me how ignorant some people can be.
Do you how many great men in their own time have been completely forgotten by history? How many great women?
There is no conspiracy against women, or anyone else for that matter, there is only the luck of the draw.
Someone writes a compelling historical book, or some events become mythologized for some inexplicable reasons, and voila! A person becomes part of the discursive historical canon.
If there was a conspiracy against women, Catherine the Great wouldn’t be called Great. Queen Elizabeth wouldn’t have great ships named after her. Ferdinand and Isabella would only be Ferdinand.
I have a degree in history from the University of California. Historical texts are replete with the contributions and accomplishments of great women. But moronic leftists - in their unending drive to divide people - pretend that the West is somehow singularly historically repressive against women. Please give me a break.
The historical fact is that Western men championed the rights of women, otherwise - without the support of men - Western women would’ve never achieved equality under the law.
But please, keep crying into your pillows at night and pretend at being victims of an oppressive system. After all, people far greater than you suffered real hardship and toiled against insurmountable odds for you to be able to play make believe.

This is a great historical piece. Not usually known other than Alfred, your in depth history of his descendants is fantastic. Alfre
Alfred was my 34x Great Grandfather, as Sitryggur Olavsson II Silken Beard, was my 30x Great Grandfather, being Grandson of Alfred's Granddaughter, Aedgithu (Edith) of Wessex, who married my 32x Great Grandfather Sitryggur Ceach, King of Dublin and Jorvik. Thank you for the in depth information about my Ancestors which helps me very much. Ivor (The Boneless) was known in Ireland as Imar, King of Dublin. It is his Clann which I belong, the Ui Imaragh, or Kinsmen of Imar (Ivor). His line descended directly to Sitryggur Olavsson II (Silken Beard) King of Dublin 999-1022 and High King of Ireland 1022-1036 (Abd), who gave us our current Surname, originally "Scirloc" in Gadeolic, pronounced "Sherlock", meaning "Fine Haired", referring the the Viking name of Sitryggur, Silken Beard ". We have one of the oldest Irish names, next to Collins, Doyle and Aedh. The name of Collins, or Ui Cullean," The Holy People ", descended from the Druids, Doyle, or" Ui Doualle,", or" Dark Ones ", and Aedh, or" Hughes ", being Dal Riata. Sitryggur had a Great Granddaughter, who married Hwell Dda, King of Gwynedd.

Hwel Dda, King of Gwynedd, had a descendant, Rhys ap Tewdwr, King of Deheubarth d1093, who's line descends to Henry Tudor, Earl of Richmond, later King Henry VII. I have traced the Tudor line back through Brutus, Duke of Cambria and Cornwall, through Apius of Alba (Rome) down to Troyus, King of Troy 1420BC. My family line from my Grandfather's Grandmother, who was a Sephardic Jew from Naples, traces directly through Anna of Aramathia and Joseph of Aramathia, back to King David of Israel. My Father had David's Blood, AB-. Our line is of the Grail line, and we have the Grail Emblem as our Coat of Arms, as Henry V of France, the Flur De Lis. The Holy Grail is not a Cup, but the knowledge of the Royal Blood of the line of King David. This continues from Yeheshua and Mary Magdelaine, his wife through their Daughter Sarah, and the Knowledge was kept by the Knights Templar, at the Priory of Sion. I have a Web page called Blood of the Rose, with reference to the Red and white Roses of the Royal Line of Lancashire and Yorkshire, and the Tudor Rose of the combined Royal Lines into the now current line. I am also a Priest. So I have the blood of King Imar, Sitryggur, Alfred, Hwell Dda, Rhys ap Tewdwr, The Tudor Kings and Queens and King David of Israel running though my veins. I always wear a ring with the Symbol of the Knight Templar, as a memorial to my Ancestors. My 8x Great Grandfather, Dr William Sherlock DD was Dean of St. Paul's Cathedral 1691-1707, and also Chaplain to King William III and Grand Master of the Temple.

A bit dishonest th have Alfred and Edward as king of england.
They were kings of anglo-saxons (that means only those under their rule and not the danes rule).
Athelstan was the first king of england as king of english started in 927 and because he ruled all england, not Wessex like his grandfather and Edward had not Northumbria.

I couldn't come close to what you have done here. This is the opinion of an unskilled viewer. I had to stop at 26:00 mins cuz I couldn't take it anymore. You've "droned on" thru some of the most significant historical moments of the British Isles. Alfred changing his socks seems to have the same significance as defeating some of the most notorious Viking warriors to have ever existed! If numbers stations were still a thing you would be the top prospect! I'm sorry for being an @ss because I can see you've worked hard... but it's true.

Brutus and the line of his descendants including both Arthur's were the first kings before the Anlgo Saxons - Brutus came in 500BC and before that, Albine in 1500BC. This is suppressed history to legitimize kings/current power structure during the 1700s to present. Most history is hidden/untrue.

was Albine 1500 AD a Ligurian ? Ligurians, a preindoeuropean ethnia that survived the last würmian glaciation (15.000 8000 AD), have repopulated nordeast Europe, and are cited having settled in the British isles. From those Ligurians comes the word Albion .Alba appears frequently in the chronicles and in toponyms.
Alba Longa, near Rome, was founded ~ 1050 AD.
The same Ligurians were intrepid navigators and have discovered amber on the shores of the Baltic. They were the firsth to elaborate it to make jewels ( Liguria denotes jewels out of amber )they commerced with the Minoans, the Myceneans,Mesopotamia, Egypt, the Cyclades. This monopol of amber has originated the " general name of their whole nation" (Plutrach, Vita Gaii Marii)

its so weird to have you speaking about history but the images tell a fantasy saga, à la King arthur made in Hollywood... I would love to have you using better AI.-commands to generate this images.... why not adding the term" historic accurate armor or clothing" ? these Leatherbandits are no vikings and there were certainly no platemail in this timeperiod... it breaks the great immersion you actually archive through out the stories... I generally love the content you do, but the images always break the immersion to me...

It is clear that all the comments on top here are from friends of the narrator as they praise him when in fact it is one of the worse narrations I have ever heard. No attempt at use of punctuation is used, not even a slight pause at full stops etc. Just rolling on and on in an awful monotone which when deviated from, is done by emphasising the wrong words. Hopeless.
