      @@jonathanallard2128 Nah. The style of SW is definitely based on WW1-era battleships, weapons, artillery and airplanes. With Han Solo's blaster literally being a WW1 Mauser C96 and the stand-in dogfighting scenes in the draft version of New Hope being archival footage from biwing dogfights. There are some individual WW2 elements, but most of it screams WW1.

    If you haven't seen it the documentary ''They Shall Not Grow Old'' directed and produced by Peter Jackson is excellent.
    He managed to bring to life the grainy old film footage adding colour etc. He added sound and employed lip readers for example to fill in the blanks. (None of the original footage from WW1 has any sound.) Totally worth a watch!

      @@Gunny1971 Mass scale electric vehicles that don't require gas to run, not polluting our cities anymore, possible redo of people that are paralyzed and have other disabilities thanks to Neuralink (and its really huge, medical chips from universities have like 100 electrods, neuralink has 3078), and most importantly SpaceX - he awakened tens of commercial space companies that are helping improve life on earth massively and SpaceX alone after Starship is completed will make it possible to leave mining our beautifull Earth alone and don't pollute her anymore thanks to space mining. Also colonizing Mars will increase our chances of survival as a species. Thats a lot of things lol.

    This needs to be a competitive sport!
    2v2 or 3v3 simulated dogfights. It would be a dream come true to see that in person, and even better that people aren't actually dying.

      The closest film to that was ‘Aces High’ which starred Malcolm McDowell. It did an okay job at portraying just how dangerous & ultimately short the lives of the aircrews in the early days of air to air combat.

      you can build them in your garage :) or under a tent, including most the engine works on them. . . and the complete specs and plans are out there. . .there is also a lil uptick in the 1/6 builds and such, not the full sized plane but still able to be directly piloted.

    I had the Fokking pleasure to work with Peter Jacksons team in NZ on the Hobbit premiere.
    From everything I experienced from a ground level workers POV, I would have jumped at the chance to work with them - and I would have to commute from 'straya!
    From the geeking out seeing the back of house of Weta workshop, to the infectious enthusiasm of the craftspeople working on various aspects of his projects, he established a creative empire in his own country.
    Bezos and Musk can claim 50yo achievements paid for by other people, but a guy with mutant muppets and seagull threatened zombies created an opportunity for creative expression with a kiwi flavour.
    kudos to my ANZAC bros!

      The Fokker had three wings because they're also shorter. The engineers wanted shorter wings, but in order to keep the same amount of lifting force, it had to have the same amount of wing area, so they decided to have three wings. Short wings mean it's way easier to roll, making it much more effective in combat due to its high agility. I think it was a very slow plane though

      The Fokker also had more climbing ability arguably the most important part of early dogfighting was don’t drop altitude unless you had to.

    To those new to WWI Aerial Combat the Triplane would have dived from very high , with the sun behind him , into the top of the RE8 and unleashed his Machine Guns at the pilot, gunner and Engine . But they probably couldn't stress the wings like that.

      A lot of deaths were from non-bullets; training accidents, planes breaking up from the G forces. Would be a dangerous sport.

      @@Bunny-zn7ke probably, but that can only help so much you still need a way to prevent mid-air collisions so risky maneuvers would probably not be allowed, it would be just like this..

      I'm a licensed private pilot and glider pilot. These old aircraft are notoriously difficult to fly and the maneuvers performed in aerial combat are far more complex and disorienting than you'd think. You need specific training just to perform solo aerobatics... now imagine doing what is essentially uncoordinated "group" aerobatics in temperamental and difficult to control powered kites....

    Aside from the fact that lasers can't take into account ballistics, these pilots really were just flying in a very simple flight path. Not really "dogfighting". Looks looks super fun, what an experience

      ww1 planes normally couldn't do the high g turns ww2 was known for, they had tiny engines and weak wings, so i think this is fairly accurate

      From the video they didn't do much in terms of energy fighting or even turning much to "shake off" the pursuer. I don't know, maybe most dogfighting tactics were developed in ww2? And yes I would love to see immelman 😆

    As I build my own 1:1 SPAD XIII, I'm discovering that at least SOME of the Fokker fuselages construction departed from the wood beam and wire bracing that was de rigueur in that era (as was the case with the SPAD), and went instead with a welded steel fuselage frame. And of course, that technique became more and more prevalent as aircraft design evolved.

    What a tremendous game! Only downside: with lasers no deflection is required. Takes a lot of the sport out of the...sport!

    in reality all those fuselage hits from behind and beneath could go through the length of the plane and hit the crew and engine but in this simulation count as non-lethal.

      Also an engine hit isn't really lethal. They could just glide down - depending on which side they landed on, they would either be captured or could be up flying again the next day.

      There has to be a work-around for this. Motion tracking camera inside/near the tip of the barrel locking onto infared reflectors? The problem I supposed would be making the proper calculations

    Adam and/or pilot died in a first round so they could never learned to work as a team. Fokker pilot could probably land with broken engine and fly again. So i think it's the Fokker pilot that won.

      I agree. It was a game and the Fokker pilot was just having fun but the reality is he probably shoots down the RE 8 most of the time.

      @@mikeyoung9810 Yes. And I think that the RE 8 crew not learning to work as a team was actually a factor here. They did get very little training before going to combat.
