The crazy part is, there are pundits that say Kobe Bryant was never the best player in the league in any year...
This was his second straight trip to the finals without Shaq. He lost the test before, win this year, and win the following year with Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum.
He was DEFINITELY the best player in the league those years.

The fact that he needed to validate it was ridiculous. The reason why is because EVERY star needs another star to win. Shaq was carried by D Wade (and the refs) in a way that nobody was ever carried before in 2006. Kobe also needed a great team around him and he would never win again if it wasn’t for Pau Gasol, Lamar Odom, Andrew Bynum and the rest of his Lakers teammates. It’s never one person. Kobe never wins his first 3 without Shaq, and Shaq doesn’t win his first 3 without Kobe. So I hate that this was ever a narrative. It makes no logical sense. Sure, Kobe didn’t win without Shaq, but that’s because he never had teammates that were good enough to help him since Shaq left. As soon as he had a contender, and he was on a 65 win team, he won his first championship without Shaq. Go figure, who would have thought? Lmao. Also, while Kobe COULD win without Shaq with a proper team, that doesn’t mean that a player like Shaq wouldn’t be a bad thing. Lol! Kobe would have more titles if he had a player like Shaq for the majority of his career. He would have won close to 10. So that narrative is faulty for a multitude of reasons.
