In this video i'll be teaming up with Oceaniz to review the first half of this season of My Hero Academia! My Hero Academia Season 4's Overhaul or Internships arc is one that fans waited for with FEVERISH anticipation. Did it live up to the hype, or did it fall flat? Me and Ocean are both going to give our opinions on how the struggle between Deku, Mirio, Chisaki and the others was adapted, and we even go a little behind the scenes to talk about some production details that you may not be aware of if you're a more casual watcher of the series! Expect OPINIONS and enjoy my first collab on this channel!

I honestly think season four did extremely well given the fact the production team was spread so thin. It definitely could have been much worse

They had an extra half a year for pre production, they shouldn’t have had these issues. I would accept it though if they had stayed on the normal spring release schedule.
@@juliandavidhoffer2022 if they would have kept to their normal schedule the anime more than likely would have looked kind of bad and it was definitely for the best that they pushed it back

Really good points on the lighting. Nighteye's hospital room is darker than the Yakusa base, like c'mon
I was kinda disappointed with the overhaul arcs adaptation. Obviously, episode 13 was absolutely fucking draw dropping. But, the arc didnt feel *dark* like it did in the manga. It's supposed to be a scary arc in dark hallways with tension building constantly, not a brightly lit corridor with hype and flash. I really loved the dark tone in episode 2, but they didnt carry that tone along the duration of the arc.
facts + plus Overhaul had too many bright colors on his design it kinda bothered me

The season was great just... not *PLUS* *ULTRA.* And studio bones has never given us something so below plus ultra before. It’s a little jarring.

Personally, I really liked Season 4. Were there animated fights that could have been done better? Yes. But I still think Studio Bones still captured the emotion of those scenes, like Mirio's fight against Overhaul. Besides, the animation could have looked a WHOLE LOT worse.
Just because it could be worse doesn’t mean it can’t be criticized. That’s like saying someone who’s struggling with money shouldn’t feel bad because there are homeless people. Just because something could be worse doesn’t mean it isn’t bad.
Shan but his comments seem in line with that mindset, he’s saying it wasn’t great but could have been worse implying that what we got was acceptable which I disagree with. Just because something could have been worse doesn’t mean we should accept what we got, Ive seen plenty of people say that people should “just be glad we have bones working on it” and overall that people shouldn’t criticize the series, maybe he isn’t one of those people, but his comment gave me that vibe.
@@juliandavidhoffer2022 I'm not saying you shouldn't criticize it. Any criticism on the animation is valid. It's just that there are people out there who think it's the end of the world just because certain scenes weren't animated well or they left out certain scenes from the manga. It's not perfect, but it's not as bad as those people think it is. I've even heard some people believe that "Studio Bones doesn't care about the fans". Yeah, because the fact they worked on Heroes Rising and Season 4 at the same time, which, yes, deteriorated because of that, CLEARLY showed they don't care about the fans at all.
Animation is hard whether it's western animation or in anime and I don't think a lot of people realize how hard and frustrating working in the industry can be.
I mean usually, I’m fine with a drop in animation quality here and there, but AU gotta say as great as the few moments where the animation in season 4 were spectacular, they dropped the ball on one of the most important parts of the arc. I think they should’ve dropped the quality for Kirishima’s part in the arc and gave it to Mirio because Mirio’s impact to the story was a lot more important

Mirio's fight was a directional choice, not a lack of budget.
Mirio is a reoccurring character what relevance does he have for the story.
god damn that was good as always. personally I never had an issue with the animation of episode 11 and I actually loved it but I can see how people wouldn't like it to much. anyways I hope you have a great day and thank you for another great video and make sure to stay safe with the virus going around.
I was having an issue with it early on, but I've grown to accept it.
My thing is, if I wanted to see a flat motionless image, I could read the manga, but this is anime and I expect better especially from Bones. I would rather have no Sakuga so long as everything looked good. Punches need weight, impact frames need impact etc.
Look bones isn't perfect. They tried to make the anime look good but they could only do so much. Remember they poured loads of energy into the second film so of course S4 would look a little sloppy in certain areas.
Tayo Jones you also gotta think that with COVID-19 we are hella lucky to get the rest of season 4. My hero is still as good as it’s ever been in my opinion but then again I don’t really give a shit about animation. The only one I had a problem with is their interpretation of the hawks scene where he has his head on his hand and is smiling. Otherwise tho I have no problems with this season’s animation.

I’m curious to see how they are gonna handle the music for the my villain academia arc because they can’t use the same OSTs or else it’ll feel too heroic
They will probably use the All for One theme.
Shigaraki should get his own theme like palpatine and Vader have their own themes

I think season 4 was special because i feel that this season made the others members of class 1A special, we got character development for Kirishima Mina and Jirobut I also feel that Lemillon was the ViP hero of the season and also the 1st episode involving the journalist was great him discovering Deku's secret was grest and its alao great becausr it dosent affect the plot

Thoughtful and thorough. I have to agree that Season 4 was just good. Not great, but not nearly as bad as some “fans” make it out to be. Looking forward to part 2, as well as more collabs like this.
Totally agree on the impact!! Like when I saw the Unbreakable moment, I was like...that’s it?? I don’t remember it begins like this in the manga... now I understand it was the impact!!

Honestly overhaul was probably one of the best villains that I've seen in the series it does suck a little bit that they cut out a chunk of his backstory but I thought his design, motives, ability, as well as the amazing performance Kellen Goff gave us made him one of my favorite characters

Runtime Error_EXE_634 they likely won’t, for Blue Ray they will polish up artwork or redraw frames, but I’ve never heard of them reanimating. I don’t even need Sakuga, I would be content with no Sakuga so long as everything has the same consistent quality, but I don’t need Mirio vs Overhaul ever again that was awful. Gimme All Might vs Noumu USJ any day of the weak, that fight didn’t look stunning but it was good and clean and that the level I’m happy with for MHA

Compared to the manga, I think it was just underwhelming. The pacing for the overhaul arc was a little weird. I thought it was too long for overhaul to not be that big of a villain. Personally, I'm just not given enough time (in the manga or the anime) to care That's not to say I didn't enjoy the raid episodes though the entire arc was dragging. It doesn't have any semblance of the vibe it does in the manga.
and honestly, I just don't like the festival arc... Like, none of it. Eri's face during 1-A's show was PRECIOUS but save for the final episode that is the only part of the season I truly enjoyed.

I still kinda like the mirio vs overhaul fight , mean I think that the choice of those jump cuts was a method of emphasis on the speed of which mirio was moving at since his permeation allowed him to basically teleport.
And I think that the slide shows were just to give a bit of more context on what happened after mirio lost his quirk and still had to fight overhaul, while the manga only told us how long mirio fought overhaul for.
Although I believe that your suggestions would of most likely improved it greatly, since as you mentioned animes and mangas have different ways of portraying things.

I'm glad y'all talk about the woes of Season 4 especially since everybody just glaze over the problems. If was way more than Animation it was timing, directing, music, etc. Say what you want about Nagasaki, but his version of the anime had impact and emotion. The new camera angles look stupid at times and unneeded.

did anyone notice how overhauls body structure when fighting deku changes from one frame to another even when no one did anything to him
like just before deku hits him with the punch barrage overhaul has four gigantic limbs and thats all nothing like his big form when he came out from the underground and then we get the frame with dekus numerous fists appearing and you can see overhauls form is like at the beginning when he came to the surface even tho nothing happened to change his four limb form
It's funny because I didn't even notice anything during season 4 cus I was so hooked
Since Heroes Rising is supposedly the last movie (doubt it), hopefully after this quarantine the production team is able to get back together to make Season 5 an instant classic.

Ok, this has been puzzling me for the longest time now. What would happen if Eri used her quirk "Rewind" on someone that got their arm cut off. Would Eri's quirk put the arm back on the person or would it give the victim a new arm and would the decapitated one disappear? Also, what would happen if she used "rewind" on the decapitated arm? Would it give the arm its own body? This quirk has too many options and not enough concrete restrictions.

Maybe this a stupid, naïve question, but why not go back and re-animate past scenes? I’m talking post-release? If the uninspired scenes of the show are a large criticism, then going back to re-animating scenes seems like a good idea to get more people to see the show’s worth.

One of past users has a Regeneration Quirk!! If you watch All Might last fight with All for One, in his last punch his damaged arm is completely healed before delivering final blow. I watched this 3 times!! Can't believe i missed that!!!

I kinda disagree with that "impact" part of finale of overhaul I think they nailed it and your points truly felt like nitpicks. Deku Vs overhaul was easily one of the best moments of the whole series. The problem that I encountered with the season was after episode 14 everything felt like out of tone. It was like watching far from home after endgame. It would have been Perfect if it ended on 14th episode.

The thing that annoyed me the most about Season 4 is taking out the rat scene out of Overhaul’s backstory. It’s a small thing, but it’s so important to the character.
I felt like fatgums final punch was built up correctly but, like you guys say, the impact was muffled
I agree with most all these pros and cons. And the deku fight was cool with the changes but the original way deku beat overhaul was a beautiful homage to how all might Beat the usj Nomu.

I hadn’t read the manga in a few months leading up to the chapter so I had to recall everything from memory. The only thing I was let down by was the Mario fight. Slideshow didn’t do it for me, and the animation definitely suffered. Still enjoyed it and still was not a flat as Dragonball Super
