Freight trains return to formerly abandoned South African branch line

A joint venture between South African national rail operator Transnet Freight Rail and privately owned steam- and freight train operator Ceres Railway Company is - literally - bearing fruit as container loads of fresh and processed fruit are railed from the farming town of Ceres to the docks at Cape Town.
The initiative is part of an official road-to-rail strategy which hopes to revitalise the country's struggling general rail freight business by allowing private operators to run trains on certain routes.
