My fifteen year old boy doesn't like to admit that I have a good taste in music. But when I'm not around, he's always listening to it. And this is one of them.
Wow. I've liked this song for years but never really listened to the words. My 14 year old was playing it yesterday and I actually *heard* some of the lyrics. As I've gotten older...it's like I'm hearing some songs for the first time because I now *get* their meaning. It's amazing that so many artists write some really cool, deep songs in their twenties. I did not have enough life experience to really go that deep.
@bbearsmama... This song was written about a girl named Amanda with whom Billie Joe was romantically linked for a short time. She was a radical punk feminist and she dumped because she thought he was stupid. 😂 The basic gist of this song seems to be, "I'll listen to you because I like you, but someone taught you all that hot mess that's in your brain and you're repeating it." She showed up in several Green Day songs over the years: "She" "Stuart & the Avenue" "Whatsername" & (finally after they caught up years later) "Amanda." But goddamn... talk about all time last laughs.
I completely forgotten about this song until today I heard it on the radio and made me wonder if I had the words right and I did until the word tool I thought it was fool
the beat part about green day is there songs are so true they aren't afraid to say what they want to and they are still one of the most popular bands around
I’ve been listening to this song my whole life, and once I realized that this girl is so much more like myself than I realized before it just hits different. Once I actually listened to the lyrics for what they were and realized that I do feel like a “social tool without a use” and that all of my doubts about myself were someone else’s point of view, it provided me with so much clarity about my own life that it actually made me cry. I know that sounds kinda sad but thanks for the free therapy, Green Day!
24 years ago, 15 and in high school my boyfriend at the time told me this song reminded him so much of me he thought it was written for me. It is only now, at 39 and after 2 years of therapy and talking about about how I was raised I hear the lyrics and understand exactly what he was saying.
The live one has billie on heroin going " YOU WORRY? YOU WORRY? YOU WORRY? YOU WORRY? Just type billie joe freaking out the thumb nail has blonde billie
Not high, I would do this to fuck around when growing up. Do that to a random person and watch them freak out. Goes with the whole dookie feel, Brain stew showed them in a mental ward
Heard this on a radio sampler in the spring of 1994. This is the song that really grabbed my attention. The others were good, but it was this one that made me a fan.
From time to time a person can tell you that great music has gone away and after that you by chance discover a band such as this! *watch?v=el3cHidIiAU* I say it is incredible! CZcams and fall in love!
How come this great song, in so many ways, has so few comments...---"...she screams in silence..." ---Hidden deep meaning...I would like some day to hear others opinions what is the true idea of the song, to see if mine is the same or maybe a lot different.
Well then I interpreted it a lot differently...it can be a deception on "her" of any kind and then when she figured out starts to fight back silently and patiently...also she "screams" with her eye signals on someone(friend..) to do something about it or make him/her aware of the plot...
Same things....my daughter is 13.....her mum and me Always tried to get her into our music...from GD to pearl jam ,foo fighters...she was having none of it. We live in Italy and she was with really crap pop music....next thing i hear her singing boulevard of broken dreams while doing her homework folliwed by linkin park and Alice in chains........Kids... They get there eventually
To me this song speaks of the dive conciousness, the innocence within that finally grasp shes been born into a prison of flesh that has been constructed to trap by means of false truths, trama, and barriers of the mind. Somthing that is all capable, but yet confined by somthing so ignorant and self serving as the human mind...

I experienced the same thing with Father of mine by Everclear
This was my "theme" as I felt like a social tool with out a use.
Yeah, listen to lyrics, you'll be amazed.

I think it was speed
DEFINITELY was not heroin. I know this is a seven year comment and all, but heroin would have him mumbling "ready?" A few times and leaning over

This song is a good point of how new generations are fucked cause they didn't grow up with this.

Is this song in Captain Marvel? I feel like this song should be in Captain Marvel, it even came out the same year the movie is set.
