I think it's from a game where a developer lets us see into the dozens of abandoned games or maps an old friend of his that went off the radar made. All of them were really weird and unique.
I'd have to say the "Silent Hill" series as well as the "Evil Within" games are really good at creating liminal space. I'm pretty sure that's what made them so popular is the fact that they were excellent at making the player feel alone and uneasy, not by the monsters, but by the setting entirely.
Mario 64 is one of the most liminal space-like video games ever in retrospect if you’ve gone down the beta archives and iceberg rabbit hole. Little nightmares has always given me a huge wave of liminal space-like feeling.
hi miac! you are one of the best liminal space uploaders. i have a few things to ask: 1. can you make your vids longer? 2.what inspired you to make these videos? 3. how do you find these images? 4. do you pick the liminal spaces you think are nostalgic, or do you just pick random ones? 5. what editor do you use to make the light flickering effect? 6. how did you find these music tracks? i have spotted a couple tracks that you use often, like the DUN dun DUN dun DUN dun DUUN dun one (last soundtrack on this video: czcams.com/video/7y704nwAxyU/video.html ) 7. voice reveal? 8. can you do a video about old- looking photos? (title maybe: Images that look forgotten)
This would probably be really useful for a game idea I have. It's about liminal spaces and non euclidean geometry. I want it to feel as "bizarre and off" I can possibly can without making it too surreal. Can't wait to start making it.
The first image is LSD Dream emulator, a game inspired by a womans dream journal. I'd say its the father of liminal spaces, being released so long ago on the PS1. You can actually read the dream journal online (translated from Japanese to English)
The relatability of these pictures gives you a scary immersion. Though I have been freaked out by some of the pictures, I just can't seem to stop watching your videos. Thank you for sharing this at times uncomfortable, yet enjoyable media.
0:17 When I found out that song was from Portal 1 I was reminded of that one time that my sister let me try it out myself on the xbox (Though, I did have trouble getting through the first level when I was trying it out as a kid). I also found out it's on steam for $9.99 and half of me is now wanting to buy it and actually play it for myself. 👀
She was also telling about how she and my brother-in-law recently finished Portal 2 and maybe I could play both by buying the portal bundle pack that's 14.99
The third pics music was Warmth by C418, it plays in the nether in Minecraft! i binge listened to that song for at least two months during summer. I love it

Dude, these are the types of spaces i love. If you do another, you should do some mw2 maps or some halo 2 maps. Those would really fit this whole atmosphere.

The Minecraft music made this video even more nostalgic.
1:11 One of my favorites sites in Zelda, I love the Water Temple so much!
0:45, this game is The Beginner's Guide, a highly underrated gem made by Davey Wreden, the one who make Stanley Parable. I suggest checking it out
The music behind it is Warmth by C418, it plays in the nether in minecraft. Glad to know the game in the pic too!
i was just abt to say that !! sad game tho
0:35 was strangely satisfying, calming; had to watch it a few times

Ah yes, the room where Link has to fight against his shadow in a room that has a foggy atmosphere at first. I recognize THAT one.
As much as I hate the water temple, that mini boss fight will always be one of my favorites.
i visited it in a dream

i’ve always found luminal spaces amazing. Not the image, the feeling. The sense of feeling you’ve been their or seen it.
It doesn’t even feel familiar sometimes, it just makes me nervous
2:25 what would you do if you saw something looking at you through that window
The GMod Workshop is a gold mine for this
Gotta love how lsd simulator images show up a lot because the whole game is literally a liminal space...

Being honest i hate the Mario 64 Peach castle. Its so Unnerving. I aways feel someone is gonna open a door and start chasing me
True
I hated that most rooms looked the same as a kid.
It’s Wario’s apparition.
If there was no music playing then it would be really creepy
because someone is chasing you. you better make sure you’re under your blanket tonight, because they’re catching up fast.
