    Vinyl went by the wayside, because in the 90's, record labels would no longer take vinyl returns. If you ordered too much, you could not return for credit, if you had a defect, you could not return for credit. So, stores stopped ordering vinyl.

    That's so cool! I love Eddie Trunk! What an interesting topic. He sees CD's making a come back. 😃

    I love CDs and Records. But, I listen to my CDs way more. Eddie nailed it!

    I remember a video years ago saying vinyl would never come back

    Eddie makes valid points about why one would prefer CDs over vinyl, but no one seems to be able to articulate to him why vinyl is so much more than the "hip, trendy thing". There are many reasons that go beyond "holding the artwork and liner notes".

      Agree! We were surprised at some of his answers. It's almost a mood listening to a record. Flipping it and the crackles and pops are part of the experience we like! Plus the warm tones. However.......we do like his thoughts on cds. As if there is a huge cd resurgence. We're Ready for it lol

      @@BacktotheMedia I listen to Eddie's show on SXM Volume daily. He mocks vinyl collecting regularly. Again, he's not wrong to complain about sound quality, flipping records every few songs, etc. But he also has no understanding of the things that make it worthwhile. Things like browsing through bins and finding gems, owning artifacts, having a proper library, and the usual comments about the tactile experience. He's entitled to his preference, but he should also hear about the positive aspects.

    Eddie is a great guy, but CD's are terrible. Just my opinion. I can still listen to a record I have owned for 50 years but a CD that is become worthless because skips or has an ERROR on it gets tossed in the trash. So glad I kept all my records and now adding more to the collection. Great video!

      Plus I do store music from records on a Micro chip it can hold a crazy amount of music that I can take anywhere.

    Trunk is clueless when it comes to vinyl. Always has been.

      Nostalgia is not really what it's about for me. It really is sound quality and just a more feeling real live instruments in you're home.
      Eddie needs to actually listen to a really nice turntable/stereo setup with a good cartridge that's aligned properly with freshly vaccum cleaned records on cleaning machine. He would not hear any noise that is bothersome only amazing music!
      I have never heard CDs sound as good as a good vinyl record pressing. Doesn't mean I don't listen to cds. I still do and buy them once in a while, mostly used ones.maybe the Super audio cd format will finally replace the cd as the dsd(direct stream digital) recording technology really is the best digital sound. A friend of mine has a tascam DA -3000 recorder that does high resolution 24bit 192khz pcm or dsd recording on sd cards. It sounds amazing in dsd recorded from vinyl. Way better than the CD of the Black Sabbath paranoid vinyl he recorded! Not a single bit of snap crackle and pop on that copy!

    Sounds like someone doesn’t understand that it’s not the medium that is used but the source that is used when it comes to the best sound quality. Maybe he’s a little upset that his CD collection is now basically worthless and there will never be a CD “resurgence”. 🥺

    • @BacktotheMedia
      @BacktotheMedia  Před 3 lety +1

      He's missing out! However maybe he will lead a CD resurgence. Which would be nice as we have thousands of cds in storage ready for their day in the Sun lol

      I guess it’s a good thing they “last forever” and “don’t skip”. Most of my old collection must have just been defective.

      @@yellowkrecordstore There is a thing called Disc Rot. We've seen it happen with Sega CD and Sega Saturn games. The film on the disc gets corrupted over the years and causes issues. Which is a total downfall if it happens more and more as time goes on.

      @@BacktotheMedia lol. I’d love to see it happen as well but I can’t think of a single reason why they would. I can see some CD’s gaining in value as their rarity increases but I don’t believe we will ever see a day where CD’s are mass produced in the way they were or even in the way vinyl is now. Who knows though, right? I think it’s a really interesting topic.
