    Dr. Gundry, the time for cooking in the pressure cooker that you are discussing for lentils etc., is that 20 minutes after the cooker seals and unseals, or is that a 20 minute program under pressure which will take an additional 30-40 mins to unseal? Currently we put around 4-5 minutes of pressure cooking as it seals and stays sealed for exactly 20-30 minutes so i got confused.
    Thanks,

    Hi Dr. Gundry. Thank you for making all these videos and making them easy to understand. It's all starting to make sense to me now. I have diverticulosis , ibs , am sensitive to gluten etc. I've tried to eat healthy food all my life but only in the last couple of weeks after I was given some advice on healing my gut, and doing some research have i begun to understand. If I did what you said with peeling, and deseeding the vegs , would cooking them in a slow cooker overnight do as well ?. I don't have a big kitchen in my flat, and already use a steamer , a breadmaker in addition to the slow cooker i use to make bone broth and soups.
    I do love tomatoes and I like to grow them and spinach, broccoli et c on my allotment. I grow fruit and veg organically if course . Tomatoes are an important ingredient in many dishes and one does begin to feel deprived without them !
    Kaytey

    • @elainehunt3264
      @elainehunt3264 Před 5 lety +4

      I've never seen Dr Gundry respond to anyone so I will try. Using a slow cooker does not remove lectins (or at least not enough). But I think he wasn't saying that we need to cook the peeled and seeded nightshades. They just have to be peeled and seeded. So yes, you could cook them in your slow cooker. The beans on the other hand need to be pressure cooked and a slow cooker would not be sufficient. It is also possible that cooking peeled and seeded nightshades would remove MORE lectins - I don't know. I know it sucks to buy something new when you already have something that does the same thing. But, it might be worth it for you to get an Instant Pot or some other similar brand. It would take up about the same amount of space as a slow cooker and it has many functions. You can use it to pressure cook, as a slow cooker, a steamer, rice cooker (which we aren't supposed to eat, really). It has a saute feature so you can saute ingredients or sear meat right in the same pot that you might otherwise have to do in a pan before putting it in your slow cooker. This way you could get rid of your slow cooker and steamer and actually free up MORE space. And actually, if you are really doing this PP diet, I don't know that having a bread maker is really necessary. I have not seen any allowable bread recipes that use a bread maker. Unless you have others in your household I guess. I live alone - didn't think about that! I have not gotten one yet because I am poor so I can't tell you how well those features work but it sounds good to me. Some of them have a yogurt maker. I want to try making yogurt from some of the allowable milk alternates since I have a really hard time finding unsweetened non dairy yogurts.

    Easiest way to peel tomatoes:
    Quarter cut them, remove the seeds. Place in a glass or china bowl; cover the bowl with a heavy china plate and microwave for 3 to 5 minutes. Peels will come off easily if they already haven't separated from the meaty parts and the latter would also have cooked enough to shorten the actual sauteing/braising/baking time.

    Why do we need to be taught how to use a pressure cooker by a doctor? ? Bizzare.
