The irony with the Human Revolution "racism" controversy, is that the character wasn't written to speak that way. It was the idea of the black voice actress who wanted to portray the character that way. But some big fat white guy said its offensive to black people.

      ***** That is quite true.
Also I do hope you got that I was being jovial here :)
It does create a funny paradox though that you point out your opinion on anime at regular intervals, and yet it's richly used through your reviews, that got a good chuckle out of me.

For real, man. Invisible War was pretty damn good despite the environmental tone being a little too distant from the first. Great soundtrack too. I'm currently playing it again. I notice it's got a claustrophobic, hyper futuristic cheese happening while the first had gritty Y2K familiarity. Cool vid

    • @adamhamilton8524
      @adamhamilton8524 Před 8 lety +5

Invisible war was so fucked up. I've attempted to play that game about 5 different times on 5 different platforms and computers. All of them had trouble getting the game started. The game really needs a reboot with the software.

    • @FindecanorNotGmail
      @FindecanorNotGmail Před 8 lety +4

+Paxton Gilmore I loved Invisible War. Sure, the tone was different but the gameplay and story was a continuation of the original, through and through.
However... it had really tiny levels and long loading times between each to be able to squeeze it in on the XBox and that, I think, is what people remember the most from it
If the PC version hadn't had those limitations then it would have been a great game.

Tony Chang -wow, that was fast.-
I've been prioritizing buying the stealth games recommended by Razorfist and what I've personally liked what I saw with playthroughs. As a result, I'm debating as to whether I should play my newly purchased copies of Splinter Cell (chaos theory and double agent), Deus Ex (GOTY edition and human revolution), and -don't judge me- MGS HD first. So far, the first two choices are the more likely as I'm not touching Metal Gear until I have at least the first (which I haven't bought yet), but on the other hand, Metal Gear's obnoxious cartoonyness might be just what I need to make my introduction to M-rated games as smooth as possible. Not planning on playing 4 or 5 though. Or any of the non-numbered besides Revengeance.
I should not be saying this on a Rageaholic video. Sorry, Razorfist :(

Deus Ex is gaming's strongest series. Serious.
_Deus Ex:_ Masterpiece. No question. 10/10.
_Invisible War:_ Spectacularly underrated Cyberpunk noir, with a killer twist. 9/10
_Human Revolution:_ Directors Cut gives all the brilliance of the original, and irons out the awful bosses. No excuse to not play now. 9.5/10.
_Mankind Divided:_ The densest, most elegant actioner in ages. 9/10.
Give the Call of Duty shit a rest, or whatever Sony are belching out this month, and hunt down these games. You won't regret it.

I'm a youngion who was born in 1995, so I originally missed on Deus Ex. However, during my last year of high school I went through quite the conspiracy phase and came across the scene where Sarif tells Adam about the Illuminati. That fascinated me and made me eventually buy Human Revolution. After beating that game (and loving it) and owning it for a couple years I came across some videos that talked about the original Deus Ex. Embarrassingly, I didn't even know HR was the 3rd in a series and after finding out how easy it would be to run Deus Ex on my old PC I ventured into what would be one of the best games I've ever played.

I like Invisible War. A Lot.
In addition to the boss fights, one of my biggest criticisms of Human Revolution is that it is weighed greatly in favour of stealth gameplay. Not only do you get much more experience by taking down enemies stealthily, but also the difficulty levels have a negligible effect on a stealth playthrough.

    • @palagius9149
      @palagius9149 Před 8 lety +18

I remember it was one of the first games I got with my Xbox (gen1) as my PC was on the edge of outdated
(loved playing Diablo, Starcraft and Starfleet Command, but Battlefield 1942 was a nightmare and that wasn't because of the bullshit default control settings when you plugged in a controller)
The game was better looking and ran faster than most of my Friend's Rigs at the time, plus it was too much for their Computers. (Highschoolers aren't going to shell out $600 for the necessary upgrades when we got free shit from Coding Class)
It was around that time that PC Mastercard (TM) Apes were engaged in the unending Trolling campaign we know today.. Good going guys, I was a PC gamer with an outdated Rig who manged to streamline enough processes to keep it viable one year longer than it should've and You pushed me into the Console Crowd.
Anyway, I spent four years putting Devastating Viruses into critical files on Free Download Sites and I think we managed an actually "Trusted" site for I think it was a Diablo "Complete Edition".
Judging from Comments left by Angry Users.. we made an impact on some folks.
Seems that trend didn't die down cause basically nobody trusts a free download or Pirate Game without Quarantining the thing for 24hrs.. You can thank the Coders they pissed off by being Basement Dwelling Elitists, we were kids with no money and a cheaper alternative you decided to shit on.. Hope they liked getting a Rig Bricked

I dumped a lot of time into that game and don't regret a single second. I even spent hours in the Tarsus Facility basketball court using a glitch on the unconscious bodies of the Order Church raid team to freeze them midair and make it look like they were in the middle of an NBA dunk contest.

Thank the Rageaholic for dry-humping one of the most influential video game franchises ever even though he'd rather go to town with the equally awesome original Thief from the late 90's. To this day I still remember Deus Ex because of the story, the music, and the decent set of solutions to whatever was in the player's way. Even the game's bugs and glitches made the franchise fun. Here's hoping that guys like the Rageaholic will merge with Helios someday because perhaps they might do a better job at running the world. I could go on, but others have already done that.

  • @Kogerii
    @Kogerii Před 10 lety +9

I played Invisible War before the original and could not see the huge differences folks insisted existed between the games, making the sequel so much worse. Folks were impressed greatly by the original because it had no predecessor and their standards were raised for the sequel so it struck them less. The only other complaint might be how the 3 endings are fused together but I found that solution elegant. Otherwise you'd need three shorter IWs.

New coming to watching your videos, and I gotta thank you from the bottom of my heart that you didn't rip Invisible War to shreds. I was one of the few that didn't hate it from the start and to this day I still hold it on grounds as "Not as good as the first but still pretty good on its own merits", again there was no way it was going to be Deus Ex 2: The Return of JC Denton. But it is no where near one of the worst games or the worst sequels of all time that some say it is. Granted it is only one other person on the planet besides me that holds that belief but hell I will take that.

I have been a fan of yours for some time, and glad to have found your channel again after a large absence.
A glitch I remember being present on the original Deus Ex was when the scientist/hacker dude gives you an augment canister later in the game, if you have a full inventory when he does so, they keep stacking up. Dragging with a right-click would put a 2nd layer to your inventory over the first, and allow you to carry more. I'm not sure if right-clicking and dragging outside the inventory was an actual method in the game or a fortunate consequence of having a full inventory at that part of the game.
As Mankind Divided approaches I hope the series matches the heights that Human Revolution restored it to, although the epilogue chapter of that game was a massive letdown after an amazing beginning, middle, and less so climax... Mankind Divided's story seems to be getting the precursory knowledge of transhumanism well out of the way and focusing more on the dystopia following a possible singularity, but I am glad to see them continuing Adam Jensen's storyline.
(possible SPOILERS from Human Rev / Deus Ex:) The allusions to Icarus in previous trailers of Human Revolution had me thinking the story was going to head a different direction than it ultimately did, and after seeing early footage of Mankind Divided I think they will continue that story arc (as far as Jensen possibly becoming AI (Icarus) of the original, perhaps as a digitized consciousness of some kind. I was thinking they were going to have Adam Jensen ascend as a conscious AI in a satellite or something hence the aerial allusions of the AI's name as well as the footage of Jensen in an early trailer rapidly ascending.
I always confused Warren Spector as being the composer of the original, not the creator. I applaud Mccann's soundtrack to HumanRev quite a bit for several of its tracks. I have very limited experience with the second entry or the series, but didn't even play it until much after its release and thought it showed more signs of age than not.
All this "TL:DR" aside, I'm a big fan of the series and stoked to see them continuing it one way or another, though as more entries are tallied onto it, I fear it may head the way of MGS / Star Wars in becoming too prevalent to remain as a singular set of classics...

42,788 people have re-instaled this game. It is a shame why more people don't play these games as much as Call of Duty. Now YOU can't say that Call of Duty is bad, because you don't like First Person Shooters. I have played them, & compaired to Old-School FPS like Doom, Quake, Wolfenstein & PAAAAAAAAINkiller: I think that Call of Duty is Fun. They're STUPID AS *HELL*, but their Fun, & as long as the Fans & audionce is having FUN, then the game will Sell & continue to make MILLIONS. It is just a shame that Deus Ex can't have the same audionce as Call of Duty.

Invisible war was very bad considering our expectations at the time. We were hoping for more of the same from the original Deus Ex - but better. To our great dismay, we found that Invisible War had become a casualty in the ever growing trend to "consoleize" our beloved games to a market that quite simply didn't belong. Even in 2003, Console gaming was less than 10% of the market share. Why studios ever thought that this was a good idea back then (it makes *a little* more sense now), I'll never know.
As a result we were stuck with very piss poor environments and even fewer creative approaches to our objectives than the first game. We saw dumbed down mechanics, a shorter list of tools at our disposal (no lockpicks), no leveling or skill point mechanic, loading screens on Ellis Island (of all places), a completely missing inventory system, limited button controls, (both of which were constant reminders that this game was made for consoles) and a mediocre story successor at best that managed to present oddly similar end game experiences and choices before us as it's predecessor. We could definitely feel the spirit of the Deus Ex franchise but the entire game felt like the game itself was obscuring most of what we wanted from it.

I played Deus Ex 1 a few months before DXHR was released, and I was blown away by how well DX1 aged; not because of graphics, but because of gameplay. If you thought DXHR was awesome (and it totally was), you'll be pleasantly surprised by how open and customizable DX1 is. And then when I got around to playing DXHR, I was overall very pleased with the improvements they made, like streamlined combat. I did miss the GEP Gun, though...

I did enjoy the sound track of Invisible War. It seemed like a legitimately interesting game.
I got a bit out of amusement out of finding out I could change the ammo usage amount for each difficulty in a darned text document.
Although, I think the resource hog is even worse on modern computers. Shit when I tried to play the god damned game after buying it on Steam and GoG, I had to lock the game to a single core cause it flipped out over the fact processors could have more than one. That and every load change the game locked up, took ages to load the level and on top of that opened a brand new process instance of the game for the level being loaded and didn't have the concept of killing the previous one.
I just wish the sentiment that its a good but flawed game spurred people to create an Unofficial Patch to fix these kinds of issues like the games Vampire the Masqurade: Bloodlines got and on top of that every god damned Bethesda game starting from Oblivion onwards.

    Presentation
    Hello, my name is Raul.
I think computer games are powerful tools to understand ourselves.
I love them so much and I want to discover little by little their magic potential.
I would like to create a computer game, but I have no skills for that.
Despite this, I want to give my contribution to games.
This little essay is about just simple thoughts and observations about classic RGPs already distributed and played, some newer, some older.
But first, I want to thank you all the people that create these games: programmers, game designers, musicians, sound designers, graphic designer, artists, artificial intelligence programmers and everyone else involved, thank you!
    LITTLE ESSAY ON RPGs
Morrowind, Skyrim, Gothic II, Dark Souls 2, Fallout 3, Daggerfall, Baldur's Gate 2, Vampire the Masquerade:Bloodlines, Planescape Torment and many more...(please tell me your favorite one and I will add it to the list).
All of them are fantastic games, some of them masterpieces.
What makes these games great games?
I believe that the great games and in particular masterpieces have the power to go inside our mind changing us forever, not just as individuals, but us all.
What it is that remains in our mind and stays with us for the rest of our life? the gameplay? the graphics? the sound? the story? the characters? the concept?
It is hard to say, maybe is a combination of all of them, but playing games I realized that some of these elements are far more important then others.
My thoughts (I'm sorry if I repeat some concepts, maybe I need to explain them again and better or with a different nuance):
    1) A beautiful and original story can go inside us much more then great graphic or gameplay mechanics.
    2) The sound and music can give life to the game and enhance the experience to higher levels, put a lot of thoughts an efforts in this part;
there are still a lot of developers that don't understand the importance of sound.
    3) A face that speaks but does not show emotions is a big mistake, is better in this case don't show the animated face at all.
    4) If the acting voice is inconsistent, is far more better just using the written dialog.
    5) A less detailed world in terms of graphic allows to make it much more bigger.
    6) More realism does not mean more immersion, I actually think that is less interesting.
    7) A game is not a book, so I think that the dialogs and written words should be kept at a minimum.
    8) A realistic sky is beautiful, but not interesting. Is far more better to give some character to the sky with original clouds shapes.
    9) Bidimensional sprites sometime can have more character then 3d models, why not for example, animate a face with a sprite animation.
    10) A world with a interesting architecture is far more memorable.
    11) Sometimes low quality sample sounds can have more charm then high quality samples.
    12) I suggest to developers to simplify the world so to be able and dedicated resources to make it more interesting.
    13) I suggest to developers to use an old engine for concentrating on gameplay, story and characters.
    14) A memorable character will never be forgotten.
    15) Even the most sophisticated AI will repeat itself, so use simple scripted technology to create unexpected situation and behavior.
    16) Surprise the player is one of the most important thing in a Game.
    17) Scripting is time consuming but worthy as just the fantasy of a person can create beautiful unrepeatable things, events, stories, characters; this is why simplify the world can be a smart thing to do. Developers now have huge resources that can dedicate over this task instead of realistic graphics or realistic physics.
    18) I think multiple choices are a non-sense, or at least not powerful. The feeling of fake options dispels the sense of immersion; the feeling is that someone wants to tell me where I'm going.
    19) Steer away from realism, it drains a lot of energy and does not serve the purpose to immerse the player in something magical.
    20) The world is always in the mind of the player not inside the monitor, leave the space to his imagination, in this way it is more powerful.
    21) Mods are fantastic and one of the biggest reality of gaming, congratulation to all the modders that put their love in this new reality.
all modders can use freely my music, just contact me if you like it and want to use it.
    22) Instead of using expensive full orchestra music, hire few different unknown composers/players that can produce a lot of different music, or even more simple use very old music out of copyright and then transform it by changing the pitch, instruments, speed, scale or isolating just few parts and repeat them; few notes from Bach repeated over and over can be surprisingly wonderful.
    23) The faces of NPCs are very important, give them a lot of charisma, make them memorable.
    24) It is not necessary put the voice to all the dialogs, just few memorable voiced sentence are enough to give the presence to a character.
    25) Usually developers make something happen in every location, I think is a mistake; I prefer to have plenty of places where nothing happen and then when I found a place with some kind of event, it will be far more enjoyable.
    26) Use a voice or writing that sometimes describes and add details to the scene, a character a place, a situation: this is a powerful tool for immersion; for example we cannot have smells or odors in a games, so the developers can add this perceptions with a txt or voice descriptions.
    27) Stanley Kubrick used the enviroment, the architecture of a building, the layout of a room, objects as a way to communicate; it is really a powerful way to express emotions, thought, feelings with shapes, colours and objects.
    28) The presence of an NPC is much more important then his/her animation, there is no need of lip-sink or fancy movements because just the appearance can give strong feelings.
    29) What an NPC says is very important, he/she has to say something that will be remembered, so use little txt or voice, but it has to be always memorable.
    30) A realistic sky is beautiful, but not interesting. Is far more better to give some character to the sky with original clouds shapes.
    31) Pointing the direction to find someone or something with an arrow or highlighting it in the map is a non-sense and shatters the feeling of free exploration; the players are not babies and if the developers are using these tricks to help the player in finding the way, is an utterly failure and they do not understand the concept of free world.
    32) Real time maps are not good, the pleasure to use a virtual paper map is much greater.
    33) A beautiful and engaging combat mechanic gives a strong satisfaction, but is a short taste, what remains in the player's mind is the feeling of the place, the story, the NPC characters.
    34) Everything and everyone the player will see during the game, has to be special, everything and everyone has to remain in the memory of the player, otherwise there is no point.
    35) The game will succeed if the player will be not able to understand what comes next, not even a bit; it has to be a journey of surprises.
    36) A masterpiece needs inside multiple layers of meanings.
    37) Draw mountains with a structure that suggests meanings, emotions.

***** morrowind is a walking simulator... also I only said loading time because is the first thing I can think of, there are more (universal ammo, really small area with few exploration, etc...).
there are many good stealth like hitman, but deus ex is one of the few stealth rpg with really good story line, no kill stealth path and really funny and really good characters.
deus ex 1 is not the best stealth, it's not the best RPG, but it's more than the sum of the part.
if you like IW more good for you... but lots and lots and lots of people just like deus ex 1 more... and many consider it the best game of all time (for a reason).
For me IW is shit because it just don't run well (even on modern pc), it's really small and it's not a good sequel of deus ex saga.
Deus ex human revolution is a good prequel, it has the same feeling of the original... it's not perfect and it's not better than deus ex 1, but it's good.

    • @LiefLayer
      @LiefLayer Před 8 lety

***** I'm playing morrowind right now... I just walk, and walk and run, and walk... it's really boring (for now).
the world is huge, but it's a little empty. there are some mob, some little and boring quest, and it's really difficult to find where to go... and since the world is empty you just walk or run...
sure you can teleport to a town but in the town there are really few people that are related to some interesting quests.
I think many D&D RPG, Fallout 1 and 2 and Pillars of Eternity manage the world better with much more plot related quests.
I've played IW just 2 weeks after I finish deus ex 1 (2015).
It was boring because of loading time, and very few area to explore (and when I start a game where explore it's not a mechanic usually I just go to the end as fast as you can).
the problem is that you can have a shitty or a great computer but IW loading time are the same (SSD or not SSD, great or shitty cpu/gpu... you stille have to wait a lot), IW close and restart itself every time there is a loading screen, it's just a really shit way of program a videogame.
I also think the plot of deus ex 1 is hilarious, that's why it's great.

Wow it's weird to see people liking Invincible War, I personally liked it. What I also liked was the universal ammo. UA means you use the weapon most appropriate for the situation, not the weapon that happens to have ammo. UA does mean less rewards for lock-picking and other such stuff as in the original DX, that was the way to find more ammo for your more powerful weapons.
