Guys, let me know if you want me to teach you some of these patterns, note by note. Leave a like!
Let me show you five ukulele fingerpicking patterns you should be practicing right now.
As you probably know by now, I love fingerstyle. The fingerpicking technique allows you to add so much more color to the ukulele that it's almost impossible not to fall in love with this technique.
In this ukulele lesson, I will show you five fingerpicking patterns.
0:00 Intro
0:59 Fingerpicking Pattern 1. Pima.
3:03 Fingerpicking Pattern 2. Triplets.
5:01 Fingerpicking Pattern 3. Alternate Pima.
6:48 Fingerpicking Pattern 4. Pima together.
8:25 Fingerpicking Pattern 5. Travis Picking.

I LOVE THIS GUY!! He's teaching how to play the ukulele in a way that nobody else is doing and as a musician who grew up studying classical piano, all the way into college and having sung in multiple audition ensembles, I LOVE AND APPRECIATE his style. I could sit and listen to him talk all day too. LOL. He's easy to follow, easy to listen to, and easy to follow... especially if you know music already. Oh man. I hope this guy's channel takes off because he is seriously underestimated at the moment...
Thanks a lot Emily! 🎸☀️🙏🏻. I really appreciate your kind words! Yes, lets grow this channel 🎸☀️
I totally agree with you, Emily! Marco’s style of teaching is so easy to follow. He doesn’t complicate with a lot of excess wording.
Agree. While I appreciate each creator of ukulele content there are so many, and each has their strength but I really appreciate him. We have to find who best meets our learning style and Marco is great for me. The only thing to improve would be to have screenshots of chords and patterns and such.
Thank you Marco, I’ve gone from practicing pop songs on the ukulele to being in love with the more classical sounds you are teaching us. You are a gifted teacher. Greetings from Tasmania & a big love for Italia!
My pleasure! Enjoy the lessons, Kylie.
Yes please. Note by note would be great. Love how you present and play.
Noted.

~Thank you so much for helping us to learn the beautiful uku. Plz take you time when showing this old gal...I want to play like you...simply wonderful.
Thank you, Marco Cirillo 🕊 for a generous gift of your knowledge
The way you explain makes these so much easier to learn!
Thank you!
Glad you like them!
I would love to see more detailed videos of each fingerpicking pattern. This is very interesting but hard to follow.
More to come!
To anyone watching who thinks they can't do this: YOU CAN! I was super scared of trying Travis picking, and after a few days of just slowly picking my way through the pattern I can pull it out and modify it to fit a lot of songs! You got this!
Your lessons are simply amazing. Love how you encourage the you’ve got it, move on technique.
you and matt dahlberg hare hands down the best ukulele teachers on yt
Thanks!
I would like to learn to move along with chords on fretboard... I have a lot to learn :D I play uke already 9months
Thanks for suggesting this 🎸☀️

Always look forward to these. Thanks.
Our pleasure!
Ottimo video come sempre Marco!
Yes, More videos using the patterns please. Great content.
More to come!
Yes, please, it's wonderful,
I'm learning while on quarantine/ cinquentine. We are in coviid 19 for the long whole so we might as well be more productive. Thank you for sharing.
Good luck with COVID and enjoy the lessons ☀️🎸
Superb, very well explained. Thank you so much 💕🎶🎶
Maravillosa clase
Great stuff Marco.
Thanks, Mark.
Grazie Marco il tuo modo di insegnare mi ispira. Sono contento di aver trovato i tuoi tutorials su CZcams.
Grazie mille Peter! Benvenuto :)
My problem with a picking pattern is I get bored with the same pattern throughout the entire song. Much like playing the same three cords throughout a song. However, I see the advantage of using a pattern within a fingerpicking song, but not the same pattern all through the song. Thanks for your lessons. I learn a lot from your videos.
Hi Allen, you can always diversify the pattern a little bit. Each section of the song/exercise could be different. Good luck and have fun.
I love this channel 👍
Thanks, Darren.
I’m not coordinated enough for the last one!!!! Thank you for your Awesome teaching and playing 🎶🎶🎶
Thankyou.. I’m learning a lot.👍🏻
Enjoy!
I just started learning the Ukulele. These seem super challenging but I love the fingerpicking style. Once I learn a bit more I will def start tackling these for practice. Thank you
Never too soon to begin! You’ll just have more options than strumming up and down as you learn. Keeps things more interesting.
That was great. Thank you so much 🙏
Amazing just started learning your videos are helping a lot
Well done
Thank you these are beautiful 🤱🏻. I could see these used in many songs . Creating more interest 🎶💕🎶
You're welcome 😊
Thank you thank you thank you!!!
Sir you are the best❤️
Thanks a lot!
Very nice! Tks
Thanks
EXCELLENT!
Thx you dude.
Travis finger picking technique note by note, please! 😃
Noted!
Or just a better way to see fingers? However, I do appreciate the letters indicated with each pattern. Thanks!
Haha!!! The Italian gets to make an appearance! 👍🏾🌟
Sweet!
Enjoy.
These picking patterns sound beautiful and practicing them is so relaxing. I am loving learning the final two. Definitely need them in my life. XD
Nice. 😊
Thank you for this. I think I need this lesson since I've been following some tabs and fingerpicking songs from tutorials. (Which is mostly for beginners) ☺️
Good luck with the lesson.
My favorite ☺️😌
Thanks a lot hehe
Looking forward to buying my first ukulele soon. I started learning fingerpicking playing on guitar before strumming or flat picking so these exercises are just right for me :) i can’t wait to learn a lot from you
Best of luck! Keep us posted :)
@@MarcoCirilloUkulele I already learned three fingerstyle progressions from your lessons, and I’m currently working on scales :) I love the uke and I can’t wait to learn more!
"Yes indeed guys!" Yes indeed!
You're awesome. Thanks
Thanks
You make me improve my skill in ukulele
Thankyou
You’re welcome 😊
Bedankt
Thanks a lot for your support Jose.
Please make a video about chords progressions to learn 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Hey Marco, can you please suggest the best fingerpicking pattern to get habitual with if one's a complete beginner. Thanks :)
I love your videos.
But one thing!
PIMA comes from Spanish classical guitar, not Italian.
PIMA stand for the Spanish words
P = pulgar (thumb)
I = indice (index finger)
M = medio (middle finger)
A = anular (ring finger)
What is the chord you are playing. In the Travis Picking progression. It's the two middle strings in the second fret. You used it earlier in the video as well. Is there a chord that is the two middle strings of the second fret? Sounds amazing. Would love to know it.
More, please..
Yes indeed.
Marco, Is there a reason for changing the fingers position for the Travis Pattern?
Why not using the thumb for string 4, index for 3, middle for 2 and ring for 1 like the other patterns?
Thanks!
The one I always fall back on is amipim.
Great video. Thanks for the tutorials. Your playing is always so beautiful. Could you do a video of some simple chord progressions, besides the typical C, G, F, Am? As a semi-beginner, I'm nearly sick of that one, and I need some new ones to practice. Thanks!
Maybe just take a look to all the chords and try out to play? Maybe check out some music theory to find out which chords fits together.
Is a thing, you just need to understand one time, it is always the same in minor and major.
Great suggestion, Angela. I will definitely work on a video like that. Also, check my other videos to see if you can find a chord progression that you enjoy.
Hi, Angela! I enjoy using chord progressions from songs I love when toying with patterns. Here's a few pretty ones using easy chords:
Dm (or Dm7), G7, C, C
Am, Cmaj7, F, E7
Em, G, D, A
F, Fm, C, A7, D7 (easy version, not the barre), G7, C (throw in a C7 next if you want to repeat the sequence, and end on the C whenever you want)
Am, Cmaj7, Fmaj7 (easy version: just fret G and C strings at the fifth fret using your middle and ring fingers), G6
If you're up for one common barre chord:
Em, Bm (with the P, I, M, A, M, I triplet pattern you have Fallin' by Alicia Keys)
Em, Bm, Am, C (For this fret Am with your index finger. Then fret C with the middle finger on the third fret of the A string and the index finger on the second fret of the same string, it makes the transition back to Em easier)
Hope you enjoy, and happy ukeing!
@@FenrirInFlowers Thanks so much! I'll give these a try! I really appreciate your help!
@@MarcoCirilloUkulele Thanks Marco! Looking forward to you next video! 😁
Ciao Marco!
Top player!😁
I just out of interest what model is that Ukulele it looks and sounds absolutely beautiful thanks
Yeah mate that video was real helpful. Not by note would be amazing please!
I’ll try.
Thanks man. It'll help loads
I don't used my ring fingers it's hard for me. Which one is better use 3 or for finger for picking styles 🙉
Marco what effect do you use to record your playing . . . .it sounds awesome (it is more than just reverb). Please let us know, it is very beautiful, thank you in advance.
Hi Greg. I use a reverb, compressor, and an EQ plugin. All the plugins are from UAD (Universal Audio).
Dear Mario, why do i need the Travis Picking. I don’t understand the advantage in comparison to play each string with one finger ... makes the usage of the thumb on the second string such a big difference sound wise?
Travis picking is interesting when used whilst accompanying some songs. Bob Dylan’s “Don’t think twice it’s alright “, is the one that springs to y mind. It’s also a good brain to finger exercise 🤣🤣
Hi Klaus, I think the main reason is rhythm and grove. Playing with the thumb on two different strings gives you another type of groove, which is the main feature of the Travis picking ...
Thx Mario, yes I hear a difference.
Love your patterns and the way you play. PLEASE slow down a little bit because I find it is hard to follow your play.
Ciao Marco sei bravissimo anche con l'ukulele che corde monta il tuo ukulele.
Ciao Gennaro.
@5:18 for beginning intro piece.
Can I get this fingerpicking & chord sheet without joining Patreon?
Grazie
🤝🙏
What kind of ukulele are you using?
OK, I see that it was answered. Tenor. Sounds very nice for instructional tutoring.
What size is this?
Tenor
Show tabs. It's just easier to follow when you see the pattern directly instead of having to investigate the chords by looking at fingers
Es un barítono?
tenor
Merci !
Thanks a lot for your support Ioanna!
@@MarcoCirilloUkulele You're welcome. Things are so beautiful, easy and clear when you explain them. Thanks a lot.
hi, someone have a note to play ? thx ...
It would be better if you didnt press any chords while showing the pattern. So that people can just focus and follow the plucking and we know we're doing it right.
Moves too fast. Can’t see which finger is plucking which string😕
you explained it too fast :(
Sorry! 🎸
If you add a notes you may have lots of views and lots of $?
I mean like if you're teaching you need to show which finger goes where right? It's just such a frustrating video for a begginer. You can't even make out what finger is playing what string. If you're teaching you need to teach like the person watching doesn't even know basics else what's the point
If it's Pima it means that you pluck with thumb index middle and ring. That's the pattern. Then I teach you the ima, which is index middle and ring. It's written on screen so I don't understand how can you say you can't make out what finger is playing what string ... Pima ... thumb index middle and ring ... these are the fingers on 4 3 2 1. Anyway I will try to make even more clear next time.
@@MarcoCirilloUkulele lol
Not good . you can't follow or understand what he's talking about...
Sorry Clara! Next time I’ll try to go slower ☀️🎸
