- This is my daughters gaming laptop. This laptop is about 1.5 years old, and due for a good cleaning. This method should work with most laptops, all though the tear down will be different. Plus, this can help with cooling fan replacements if needed.

@@MrDarkcore sir , how's the thermal performance of this hp pavilion ?

Thanks for the clear instructions!

hi i like your video so i have a same laptop my laptop is about 2 years old and the battery not charging it saying replace battery if i replace the battery can you tell me how can i maintained the battery for a long time
Which screw-driver did you use? Was it PH ones or T ones ? I have PHs but smallest T I have got is T8 and i'm not too sure is it small enough or not.
It was a Phillips head, just a really small one. It just happened to be in the Ifixit kit I have.

I used a regular sized magnetic Phillips
Easy, thanks for the tutorial!!
No problem, glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks for the video!
Thanks dude, my fans have been really loud lately. I haven't used my laptop (it's still open on my desk lol) but hopefully this helps
Helped?
Is it possible to reapply a little bit of oil to the inside center of the fans? It helped with my old laptop tremendously, but I dont know if it is possible to open these fans up
I am not 100% sure, but I will look into this. It could make a good tutorial video.
when I completed the whole cleaning process and switched on the laptop, the screen turned on and showed something about my CMOS files and it needing to be rebooted, but after around 5 seconds the pop up went away and my HP turned on. Nothing seems to be broken but should i be concerned?
If you unplugged the battery while cleaning it, you would get this prompt. It’s kinda like a boot cycle.
How often do you clean your fans, I’m thinking of doing it once every two weeks once I get my acer, is once every month fine ?
I can mine like every few months, unless I notice that they are dirty.
i have a question, i have the same laptop in this video, at 2:23 what is that on the left of the fans with the big white sticker?
in that spot on my laptop, there is just a hollow plastic thing that doesn't seem to have any purpose.
edit- think i figured out it's space for more storage.
but i still would like to ask, is there a way to take apart the entire fan and look in it? mine is loud and vibrates the whole laptop.
Yes, that is the ssd/hdd expansion bay area. For the fans I would say yes, but I haven’t done that kind of repair yet.
@@MrDarkcore so upon further investigation, it appears this fan doesn't start moving until shortly after the working one, and it's not as smooth and stable as the other. I think it's broken :(
Well if you think it’s a bad one, you could order a new on Amazon. It seems they run for around 10-15 usd.
@@MrDarkcore yeah I'm going to need to do that, thanks for help though
Hi. I changed the fans on mine but the new ones stay on full all the time which the old ones didn't. how could i leave the power on auto like the old fans were?
I would check the Bios and make sure the fan curve settings weren’t change for some reason. You can also download msi afterburner and change it in there. That way maybe easier.
God, not gonna lie, this look scary as hell to do. I going to clean my gaming's laptop soon. I really hope I don't screw up.
Yea, I was scared at first, but after doing it a few times it gets easier.
Update?
@@Jusztiszz he didn't make it! 😂
Its easy as fuck
Did you do it
How long can you wait in between each clean and I have had my laptop for about a year without cleaning will is nerf the performance
I try to do it yearly, but if I look at the fans and they seem dirty from the outside I will clean it. I have pets so dirt builds up quick.
Thank you for this great tutorial. I cleaned my 1 year old laptop same unit as yours, it helped a lot and I don't need to go to HP centers.
I am glad I was able to help!
Just finished watching your video, I used the iFixit tool kit to open up the same laptop as yours, ended up breaking two mini tabs off from the case when I was putting the back panel back in.
Man, it was fragile.
Did you broke yours too?
No, mine are all still there. Maybe you don’t know your own strength. 😂
Rule #1 after lots of “learn as u go”
If a plastic piece needs any force to remove STOP!
you never have to force any panel off’ so stop regroup and look for missed screws
I have a question
Does only one fan work while browsing or using the laptop for light work ?
I found that only one fan is spinning while browsing but both of them work while gaming, does your laptop do the same or my fan is malfunctioning?
Also fan speed software lable the nonspining fan as CPU fan, aren't both them for both the CPU and the GPU ?
I believe so, mine did this also. That’s why I cleaned it thinking the fan was clogged. In my laptop the cpu and gpu use the same heat sink, so for light work it’s uses one and gaming it uses both.
@@MrDarkcore
Huge thanks for you sir
I was worried but your reply made me relax
Thanks a lot
No problem, glad to help.
cable for fan is quite hard to remove any tips for geting it open?
I just pulled on the top or the wire. I didn’t have any issues with that.
I ended up stripping the top screw for the first fan and now I can't get it out, but I disconnected everything and took the other screws for the fans out. So now I can't get the fan out.
Maybe try a size up screwdriver size if not, maybe try gripping the screw with with needle nose pliers. That’s all I can think of.
i do not feel any hot air flow coming out of the exhaust vents i use to be able to feel it before. but i do hear a fan so maybe my laptop has tow fans and maybe one is broken my laptop is a 2009 or 2010 laptop Satekkite P855-S5200 windows 7 if there no hot air flow from the exhaust does that mean my laptop is broken i also put my vacuum on the exhaust vent i hope that did not brake it before. then to day i put it on the bottom intake vents as another video said. is there away to fix this with out having to open the laptop like using a external cooling fan the kind that attach to the exhaust vents untill i can take the laptop to the place to get it checked out? i need my laptop it very imported it will not brake down my other laptop does not work as it does not connect to the internet for some reason
If it the laptop is over ten yours old it could mean the cooling fans are going bad, but if it powers on and doesn’t crash because of heat I wouldn’t think that’s the issue.
The smallest screwdriver I have is SLIGHTLY too big for the screws on the back, so I’m gonna go buy a screwdriver and then I will prevail. Thanks for the video!!
I would buy a PC tool kit, then you won’t have this problem. 😂 There are some cheap ones on Amazon.
@@MrDarkcore I went to Home Depot actually and got a set of small tips that you can interchange for $10 and it worked great! Surprisingly after over year, my fans and insides were not that dusty at all! How often do you recommend doing the thermal paste? I haven’t redone the thermal paste ever and I’ve had it for over a year.
@@shaxen274 i do my mine once a year, but that maybe still even to much. 😂
What kind of liquid did you use and is there like a toolkit set you use for the screw and removing the battery
It just isopropyl alcohol, the one I used it’s 99% medical grade. Anything above 70% should be fine though. I just used a Phillips head screw driver for all the screws, believe it was a size 1 bit. I also linked the tools I used in the description.
@@MrDarkcoreWould 64% work?
@@MrDarkcore Would water work?
@@denis_tart I wouldn’t just because if you get water on any of the electric components it could cause shorts.
Hey if I just open the back of my laptop and use my compressed air to dust away is that ok?
Yea, that would work fine. If you dust the fans though, I would find something to prevent the fans from spinning while spraying air on it. It could ruin the fan.
Is it needed to unplug the battery of the insides?
I would to be safe but if you don’t to. That’s a risk you can take.
bro i have the same laptop and one of its fan (the one you already cleaned before starting the video) is actually not working properly where can i get the replacement i need kinda exact fan because of that one screw in the middle i need a fan that also has that part up to actually get fit in their perfectly
There is a link in the description for a replacement fan’s. Pretty sure they would our model.
@@MrDarkcore nvm i found it
Oh ok.
The area i live in doesn't sell isopropyl alcohol and ordering it online would take way to much time so i was just wondering... can i use alcohol based handsanitizer (80% ethyl acolhol)?
I wouldn’t since hand sanitizer has other chemicals that may not evaporate. I would just use a microfiber cloth to wipe it down to the best of your ability.
@@MrDarkcore okay, I'll try doing it with a microfiber. Thanks for your help!
How do you unplug the fan, I’m trying to unplug it and it won’t budge. In the video you easily pop it off.
Yea mine just unplugged real easy. I would look to see if there are any push pin that have to be pressed and held down while pulling the fan cable out.
I have the same type of laptop and i am having trouble unpluging the fan cables can someone tell me something that would help me?
I just pulled on them, and they came out.
would just using a compressed air container work for this?I have no idea what I’m doing when I take apart my laptops,so if I can it would be amazing
If your laptop is not that dirty compressed air would be fine, but it’s caked in dirt/dust wiping it maybe better.

@@sirdan8799 no problem, I try to get to people quick. :)
i have similar question ı want to clean it using compressed air without diassembling and is it okay if fanns turn wrong way im pretty worry about this.
@@muhammetaslsn maybe if you have something small enough to prevent the fans from spinning when hit by the compressed air. Like a needle so something of that sort. The back panel would still have to come off though.
Is it normal for the battery connector to spring back into the socket instead of coming out like in your vid?
Edit: nevermind i got it out thx for the vid its really helpful
Glad you found it useful
I followed all the steps but when I finished my device did not turn on, I made sure that the battery wires and fan wires were connected.
You may have to hold the power button down for like 20 seconds. If it’s a hp model, some other brands have different steps.

Hey man my laptop fan started randomly roaring like crazy (It's not normal because I know what the fan sound feels like on 100% cpu usage) I think it's probably dying, is there a way to fix it without actually having to replace it ? Because it's pretty complicated and tedious to get anything from Amazon or Ebay in my country. My pc model is HP Pavilion 15ec-1012nk
Before you consider replacing parts, have to done updates, disk clean up, bios update, turn off start up apps, etc? Sometimes that can help with the overall performance of the laptop.
@@MrDarkcore Well I am considering cleaning up the laptop but I can't find isopropyl alcohol, or practically any kind of alcohol, is there another substance that's more available I can use to clean the fans ?
I would say canned air, or maybe that slime that people use to clean keyboards.
@@MrDarkcore Can I just blow air from my mouth ?
Well if you use a soft brush (like a toothbrush) to loosen the dust, that could work as a temporary fix. I would only do that if it’s really caked full of dust/hair etc.
hey i just watched this and follow what u did my pc was making alot noise and over heating but the first fan you show to take out i think my pc that fan not working it dont spin if i try spin it with my finger its stiff do i need to replace it and is thats the cause of the over heating the oher fan spins just fine only the first fan cant spin when i try to spin it
That sounds like the bearing inside that fan dried up. That probably why it won’t spin anymore.
@@MrDarkcore ? So do I just replace it or can I make it spin again
@@ppolo1715 it would probably be easier just to replace it. laptop fans are pretty cheap on amazon, just have to order the right one.
Cleaning look like a pain from why I saw on CZcams, but if want to give it shot I guess it can’t be any worst then it sounds already.

Can you do this without unplugging the battery, I can’t seem to get it unstuck
You can, but could be more prone to problems.
Thanks for video, i did this and now my fans only turn for a second after running laptop and then stop, did i break something or just did something wrong?
I would try using a program like msi afterburner to see if you can get the fans to spin that way, if that doesn’t work it maybe time for replacement fans.

I am wondering if for any laptop, are there effective methods in cleaning heatsink pipes? Like taking it off, to be air-can washed.. since water can corrode metal?

Can I clean it with regular alcohol 93° ???
If you mean 93%, that will work fine. Higher the percent of alcohol the better.
Hey can we use like water insted of the liquid u used to clean the fan or like some other liquid
I wouldn’t use water unless you know it’s definitely not touching any electronic parts. Water will cause corrosion damage to it. I will have to look to see if there are any other types of cleaning solutions, that won’t cause damage.

Please help me! Its been a few days since my hp gaming laptop makes this weird throttling sound. I have a similar laptop like yours and it turns out that the left fan did this loud sound. I compared both fan movement and it seems like the left fan have something in it that reduces the speed of the fan while the right fan works normally fine. Tried putting just the tip of my finger to the left fan and suddenly the speed of the left fan went to normal. But when i let go of my finger it makes the stupid loud sound again and it also seems like the fan vibrates way too much when i no longer touching it. I dont know what is going on with this thing but can you please help me? Thank you 😢
Sounds like it’s time to replace that fan, maybe an internal part came loose or broke causing the noise/vibration.
@@MrDarkcore thought i can try hard enough on fixing it 😅 thanks for the advice bro

I would just replace it, it’s pretty simple if you have the right tools.
When do you know your fans need to be cleaned? My laptops fans make quite a bit of noise but other than that they seem to work fine and they only ever make noise when I’m playing a game on it.
That’s normal for the fans run like that while gaming since depending on the game it puts a lot of demand on the cpu/gpu so things get hot. I would say the only times you should clean them if you can see that they are dirty or if those fans are being loud when the laptop is running under no demand.
@@MrDarkcore ok, got it. Thanks.

Isopropyl with an high alcohol content, I would say 90% and above.

Well normally they get decently hot around 95 degrees (35 C). Also games put a lot of load on the cpu/gpu so it will get hot, I would only be concerned if it’s older laptop, and hasn’t be cleaned or thermal paste hasn’t be replace done.
@@MrDarkcore oh thank you soo actually it's old one but i clean screen and keyboard but i didn't look inside of laptop soo i need to check it out and how many pasta needed to put and normally i need clean fans
I think I did something wrong😊 I unplugged the battery and plugged it back in and it’s not turning on anymore
I would first try holding the power button down for 15 to 30 seconds. Make sure the laptop isn’t plugged into the wall as well. If this doesn’t work let me know.
