Thanks for posting this. R.E.M. is justy a killer band. They really hit a central nerve with this song. One hopes that the consciousness of the people can just as effected (hope I used this right) Anyhow, the band's latest effort was a good reminder how versitle and talented they are. Their music has been so vital for so many over the years. I just want to say, "thanks".
mickigoe There's a big difference between saying that your country is terrible, and that your government is terrible. He brought it up because the song (and its beautiful lyrics) are about how the government mishandled Katrina. Honestly, not sure how he could have been clearer about that.

Probably because the only way of actually "dissing" a country is to blithely, silently accept its flaws.
great song but this version sux...the live version at Olympia, Dublin, featured in the recent DVD, is a hell lot better
