In my opinion she was basically a little girl who was deprived of love from her father more so than the other girls just because he didn’t finish her, which drove her down the path she took to prove that she did have merit and worth. So she wanted to become Alice so she would be completed. That sounds reminiscent of Diabolik Lovers: More Blood, the Mukami’s made a promise to Karlhinze to become Adam. But anyways, have you done your review for season two yet? Also, I am a doll collector as well, so this anime was really enjoyable for me. I have to agree, all dolls have souls some are silly like Hinaichigo and others are quite serious like Shinku. Each one needs love, least they fall into depravity like Suigintou.
TECHNICALLY the OVA Ovurture is borderline lost because it's an incredibly rare OVA to fine, especially with English subtitles and/or English dubbed. I don't know why though?
rozen maiden was one of the 1st mangas i read back in middle school and i just recently bought and reread the 1st series surprised how much i remembered. the art is gorgeous and im looking forward to finishing the 2nd half and side stories online
I love Rozen Maiden, the first time I heard the opening (season 2) I knew it was some kind of mystical magical baroque/ gothic/victorian world, noble, gorgeous, and yet so sad. I just love that kind of setting. I also watched Black Butler, however, the soundtrack of that anime was mediocre at best, and it was quite "realistic" for me. Even though I claim to be a fan of "gothic/baroque/victorian films, I never get the feeling of "gothic" out of Black Butler, it's like the characters have nothing to do with it. On the contrary, Rozen Maiden's ost is magical, exquisite, and just so full of emotions and expressions. Hopefully, I want them to make the 4th season.
Black Butler isn't for little girls its for teenage girls or your first boyfriend ,the detective side plot threw me off and i lost interest and didn't complete it , although Sebastian is handsome and charming enough

My first handmade cosplay was Suiseiseki. I was disappointed with the smaller design they used in 2013. I liked the bigger size in relation to Jun. My favorite way of describing RM was as a "Lolita Zatchbell" lol

I always associate rozen maiden with the A Witches Tale game on Nintendo DS because I got bored of the battle music and just listened to all three of the original Rozen Maiden openings on loop while playing the game. They both have a distinct gothic and magical atmosphere.
Origami figurines brought me here ,loved the tenderness and pace of the story .Would have preferred a fight over a boy instead of validation from Father , but the Alice game is explained in the later series which makes it clearer .Taking each others Rosen Mystica was downright dastardly but a necessary evil .I cried when Hina Ichigo d4£d and was mad when Canary lost her fight .The music is amazing in 2 and 3 so dont skip the intros or outro's .The twist in the tale there are three , Suigintou's master who ends up sick in hospital , the visit to the doll shop with the jealous apprentice and the counterfeit dolls who had the others fooled and could not handle the power from ingesting the mystica ...Perfect for feeling girly and cosy
I'm sorry Jun was bullied but taking your anger and verbally abusing your sister is just messed up! im a woman and i don't have siblings thought I would like to of had. His sister is kind and sweet and having the dolls come into Juns life is a blessing.
As an older sister myself, I don't think how Jun is treating Nori is 100% messed up. Jun is not only like, 12-14 years old so he's a little kid who can barely process his emotions, but I don't quite view him as verbally abusing Nori. He tells her to go away sure, but that's because he's been so hurt that he thinks he's better off alone. Even then, as soon as the Rozen Maidens come in, he treats her a LOT better and finally starts to open up to her again. It is messed up, don't get me wrong, but also I can't help but view Jun as a kid whose just been really hurt and pretty much traumatized.
Your voice acting segment reminded me - the German dub also has a parallel to Digimon! Shinku is voiced by the German voice actress for Rika/Ruki from Digimon Tamers. When I realized that upon rewarding it, I jumped. I love her voice.
I enjoyed all the series ... mainly the first and second season I learned some trivia on the manga sadly I haven't read the manga I hope a faithful either remake or sequel to the 2013 reboot... The 2013 reboot was a bit fast pace but It grew on me and I loved it when I rewatched it

A tsundere is basically an anime character who acts bitchy and bratty on the outside, but acts sweet every now and then once you get to know her. Not a fan of the trope personally, but I know it's a popular one.

Though the 2013 anime / Manga is pretty much impossible to explain to someone who's brand new to the series because of the alternate timelines, pocket dimensions and dreams within dreams that explaining it all when I'm not good at explaining things in general proves to be impossible xD Not to mention reviewing Manga in videos is a bit tricky just because the visuals for them can get boring and reviewing anime is a little more fun in providing clips and all that
Yeah I think I was the only person posting screenshots of that game to anywhere on the western web tbh, my caps are all in this tag (veryloovy.tumblr.com/tagged/%E9%AD%94%E6%B3%95%E4%B9%99%E5%A5%B3 ). I have more screencaps of the dolls but I keep forgetting to post them. There's also some videos of the cutscene events I took which aren't /terribly/ interesting aside from being able to hear Kanaria's new seiyuu in action. Though, if you ever want to do a video on the manga I'd love to help with it if you need. Manga is tricky to explain but its story is one I hold dear to my heart.

@@WeebaLu I'd actually enjoy the rozen maiden's meeting new mediums , like kanaria with someone who does a lot of gaming and isolated and her peppy ,yet annoying at times, attitude can probably help said meidem be more socal, I know that's the plot point with jun but they can have other masters being with different socal problems I mean jun is clustered with 4 out of the 7 rozen maiden's most the time , I'd find it fun seeing the twin souisesiki and sesiseki (my bad if I butured there names lol) having a overbearing and energetic master , I can just imagine sesiseki cursing the hell out of a overenthusiastic goofball and her insults don't get through there masters head , or even hinia ichigo helping a overwhelmed teen mom with being a mother by being around . Some of those ideas are pure streaches and just seem like goofy dynamics but could make good plot points if done right .
Rozen Maiden is one of my all time favorite anime out there. I love just about all the dolls except Souseiseki. Spoilers, but from how I remember it, she kind of initiated Suigintou and Shinku's hatred for each other as well as starting the Alice Game. Then Suigintou took her rosa mystica and she deserved it imo for being a dummy and starting conflict -I also reviewed the anime on my channel as well as cosplay shinku-
I love her, she's my favorite doll xD That's only in the anime. In the anime, Souseiseki is kinda stupid but she is actually the most naive one out of all the dolls because of her loyalty lol In the Manga, Souseiseki was corrupted because of her loyalty towards her master who wanted her to use her power to kill someone. I mean, obviously she was stopped and she's all good now but yeah...anime Souseiseki is really stupid in Traumend and Ouverture lol

Rozen maiden is my fav anime of all time and i am struggling to find any new anime to watch I love eden of the east too and have seen all of them, can anyone recommend anything nice music, nice visuals, and importantly captivating enough, and all the typical basics i have seen sory if this is a hard challenge :)
Well... Rozen Maiden 2013... Or Zurückspulen, is not a remake closer to the manga as you described it (It is not a FMA:Brotherhood situation, which is how you make it sound)... It is an alternate timeline version where Jun said he wouldn't wind, so the actual meeting of the dolls occurs later in Jun's life with different events... But it crosses over with this version of Jun who did wind... So it exists in the same continuity as this series (all four series do, actually). And I find it funny that you don't mention the message of Rozen Maiden... And it makes me wonder if it was, perhaps, lost on you. This is a series about how we need to deal with depression and anxiety in our own way and time, but we need a good support group to help us through as we get through it. Jun and Suigintou are the same character essentially. They were both traumatized, and led into anger through their depression and anxiety. Jun had Nori and the other four dolls to help him through. Suigintou is what happens when you don't have that kind of support. You talk about how her missing her torso doesn't make sense. And logically speaking you are correct. But the explanation is very simple... The cracks around the wings work, and can get more focus in a manga, but it is not as visually interesting in an anime. So they needed to give her something that would work for an anime, which also gave a visual representation that Suigintou was missing something. It is a physical representation that she does not have the support she needs.
...That's the manga though. I've read the manga and watched 2013's anime, it is quite literally a direct adaptation of the manga. (The second half, as the first half was basically done with the 2006 anime, somewhat.) Of course I do understand the message of Rozen Maiden is coping through depression, anxiety and societies' expectations. That much I have always appreciated, especially when Jun is a young kid who's likely the age many of us were when we read Rozen Maiden or watched the anime. What I find silly is simply that simply Suigintou missing her torso doesn't physically make sense in this universe when you think for a moment that she physically would be unable to stand up. That's just me though, I do prefer the cracks on her back as it shows a more subtle approach to her own insecurities as a Rozen Maiden (as in the *back* of her mind, she knows that she was a complete failure in Rozen's eyes which arguably makes her love-hate relationship with him in the manga more interesting) I dunno, I just think the approach is too literal. The symbolism is too obvious and too silly to a point where it isn't the subtle detail of Rozen Maiden (like Kirakishou's "outside looking in" perspective and Hina Ichigo's PTSD for loneliness.) This is all just me though and I do mention that in the review. I just prefer the manga's form of storytelling (just not the 2013's anime execution as it was wwwaayyy too rushed)

Basically Zurückspulen is the second half of the manga to Rozen Maiden (2006) being the first half. Also, I agree with your point of the missing torso being too on the nose, and the manga telling the story in a better way. I was just stating that I understand why they chose the torso thing for the animated medium. Also, honestly, you gave all the explanation that is needed for her torso in the anime, but you seemed to write it off as not making sense. In a world where doll magic is a thing... That's all the explanation that is really needed. But, again, I agree that the manga tells the story better. Thanks again for responding. 😁
I liked this series when I watched I first watched it but, when I started the reboot/remake I dropped it, I didn't really care if it was improved or, had more content I just couldn't watch it again and, overall I preferred the old art style since it felt old due to the poor quality also, all the opening songs are great and, I have them on my mobile device since they have that cursed carnival or, tragic fantasy bop to them. The series is good maybe even top twenty-five but, not top ten material for me... if we're talking about the songs though they're top ten or, fifteen to me. You make me want to buy the Manga, which I just might do, the series remind me of "Sugar Rune", a top ten magical girl series to me(, even if I don't like/enjoy the genre anymore) which honestly not a lot of people know... the show is good but, way better when you read the manga/makes more sense, I don't think it strays to far from the Manga but, I think it does go on for longer and, similar to the mental breakdown thing changes those small things or, removes them such as a character in the series being linked to another character, not making sense when they appear in the Anime but, making sense in the Manga type of stuff.
The reboot was just really messy. The art was gorgeous but the story and pacing was honestly a disaster. The first episode alone rushes through all of Rozen Maiden part 1 (which is basically an entire Manga series in and of itself) and the rest rushes the first arc of Rozen Maiden part 2. A shame because I would've loved to have seen moments like Kirakishou's master (he's hard to explain trust me lol)and the Alice game in general. I do recommend the Manga but please be mindful that it does get confusing because Rozen Maiden's lore revolves around alternate timelines, different dimensions, inner plains between said dimensions and the validity of reality. It gets very confusing very fast if you're not focusing on it. Oh yeah btw, the Manga is also VERY difficult to find after Kirakishou's introduction chapter. Like we're talking the first volume alone is like $50 if you wanna purchase it legally. Rozen Maiden is also not on websites like Bookwalker at all so you can only go on Manga reading sites for free like MangakaLot (or use MangaLife app like I did)

I actually really didn't like anything about Suise(just for short) She was Low key a total b to me, granted my fav is Jun so I may be biased, and I realized she was a Tsundere I just kinda went down a rabbit hole of no return. No hate if you like her or Tsunderes But I just hate her in general sorry(maybe season two will change my mind but idk)

Origami figurines brought me here ,loved the tenderness and pace of the story .Would have preferred a fight over a boy instead of validation from Father , but the Alice game is explained in the later series which makes it clearer .Taking each others Rosen Mystica was downright dastardly but a necessary evil .I cried when Hina Ichigo d4£d and was mad when Canary lost her fight .The music is amazing in 2 and 3 so dont skip the intros or outro's .The twist in the tale there are three , Suigintou's master who ends up sick in hospital , the visit to the doll shop with the jealous apprentice and the counterfeit dolls who had the others fooled and could not handle the power from ingesting the mystica ...Perfect for feeling girly and cosy

I'm sorry Jun was bullied but taking your anger and verbally abusing your sister is just messed up! im a woman and i don't have siblings thought I would like to of had. His sister is kind and sweet and having the dolls come into Juns life is a blessing.
As an older sister myself, I don't think how Jun is treating Nori is 100% messed up. Jun is not only like, 12-14 years old so he's a little kid who can barely process his emotions, but I don't quite view him as verbally abusing Nori. He tells her to go away sure, but that's because he's been so hurt that he thinks he's better off alone. Even then, as soon as the Rozen Maidens come in, he treats her a LOT better and finally starts to open up to her again.
It is messed up, don't get me wrong, but also I can't help but view Jun as a kid whose just been really hurt and pretty much traumatized.
Your voice acting segment reminded me - the German dub also has a parallel to Digimon! Shinku is voiced by the German voice actress for Rika/Ruki from Digimon Tamers. When I realized that upon rewarding it, I jumped. I love her voice.

I enjoyed all the series ... mainly the first and second season I learned some trivia on the manga sadly I haven't read the manga I hope a faithful either remake or sequel to the 2013 reboot... The 2013 reboot was a bit fast pace but It grew on me and I loved it when I rewatched it

A tsundere is basically an anime character who acts bitchy and bratty on the outside, but acts sweet every now and then once you get to know her. Not a fan of the trope personally, but I know it's a popular one.

I would love to! Though the 2013 anime / Manga is pretty much impossible to explain to someone who's brand new to the series because of the alternate timelines, pocket dimensions and dreams within dreams that explaining it all when I'm not good at explaining things in general proves to be impossible xD Not to mention reviewing Manga in videos is a bit tricky just because the visuals for them can get boring and reviewing anime is a little more fun in providing clips and all that
Yeah I think I was the only person posting screenshots of that game to anywhere on the western web tbh, my caps are all in this tag (veryloovy.tumblr.com/tagged/%E9%AD%94%E6%B3%95%E4%B9%99%E5%A5%B3 ). I have more screencaps of the dolls but I keep forgetting to post them. There's also some videos of the cutscene events I took which aren't /terribly/ interesting aside from being able to hear Kanaria's new seiyuu in action. Though, if you ever want to do a video on the manga I'd love to help with it if you need. Manga is tricky to explain but its story is one I hold dear to my heart.

@@WeebaLu I'd actually enjoy the rozen maiden's meeting new mediums , like kanaria with someone who does a lot of gaming and isolated and her peppy ,yet annoying at times, attitude can probably help said meidem be more socal, I know that's the plot point with jun but they can have other masters being with different socal problems I mean jun is clustered with 4 out of the 7 rozen maiden's most the time , I'd find it fun seeing the twin souisesiki and sesiseki (my bad if I butured there names lol) having a overbearing and energetic master , I can just imagine sesiseki cursing the hell out of a overenthusiastic goofball and her insults don't get through there masters head , or even hinia ichigo helping a overwhelmed teen mom with being a mother by being around . Some of those ideas are pure streaches and just seem like goofy dynamics but could make good plot points if done right .
Rozen Maiden is one of my all time favorite anime out there. I love just about all the dolls except Souseiseki. Spoilers, but from how I remember it, she kind of initiated Suigintou and Shinku's hatred for each other as well as starting the Alice Game. Then Suigintou took her rosa mystica and she deserved it imo for being a dummy and starting conflict

In the Manga, Souseiseki was corrupted because of her loyalty towards her master who wanted her to use her power to kill someone. I mean, obviously she was stopped and she's all good now but yeah...anime Souseiseki is really stupid in Traumend and Ouverture lol

hello I love your review and have seen it twice now. Rozen maiden is my fav anime of all time and i am struggling to find any new anime to watch I love eden of the east too and have seen all of them, can anyone recommend anything nice music, nice visuals, and importantly captivating enough, and all the typical basics i have seen sory if this is a hard challenge :)
I highly recommend Code Geass, Violet Evergarden, Fruits Basket's reboot, A silent voice and Kiniro Mosaic if you want anime with those criteria!!! :D

Well... Rozen Maiden 2013... Or Zurückspulen, is not a remake closer to the manga as you described it (It is not a FMA:Brotherhood situation, which is how you make it sound)... It is an alternate timeline version where Jun said he wouldn't wind, so the actual meeting of the dolls occurs later in Jun's life with different events... But it crosses over with this version of Jun who did wind... So it exists in the same continuity as this series (all four series do, actually).
And I find it funny that you don't mention the message of Rozen Maiden... And it makes me wonder if it was, perhaps, lost on you. This is a series about how we need to deal with depression and anxiety in our own way and time, but we need a good support group to help us through as we get through it.
Jun and Suigintou are the same character essentially. They were both traumatized, and led into anger through their depression and anxiety. Jun had Nori and the other four dolls to help him through. Suigintou is what happens when you don't have that kind of support.
You talk about how her missing her torso doesn't make sense. And logically speaking you are correct. But the explanation is very simple... The cracks around the wings work, and can get more focus in a manga, but it is not as visually interesting in an anime. So they needed to give her something that would work for an anime, which also gave a visual representation that Suigintou was missing something. It is a physical representation that she does not have the support she needs.
...That's the manga though. I've read the manga and watched 2013's anime, it is quite literally a direct adaptation of the manga. (The second half, as the first half was basically done with the 2006 anime, somewhat.)
Of course I do understand the message of Rozen Maiden is coping through depression, anxiety and societies' expectations. That much I have always appreciated, especially when Jun is a young kid who's likely the age many of us were when we read Rozen Maiden or watched the anime. What I find silly is simply that simply Suigintou missing her torso doesn't physically make sense in this universe when you think for a moment that she physically would be unable to stand up. That's just me though, I do prefer the cracks on her back as it shows a more subtle approach to her own insecurities as a Rozen Maiden (as in the *back* of her mind, she knows that she was a complete failure in Rozen's eyes which arguably makes her love-hate relationship with him in the manga more interesting)
I dunno, I just think the approach is too literal. The symbolism is too obvious and too silly to a point where it isn't the subtle detail of Rozen Maiden (like Kirakishou's "outside looking in" perspective and Hina Ichigo's PTSD for loneliness.)
This is all just me though and I do mention that in the review. I just prefer the manga's form of storytelling (just not the 2013's anime execution as it was wwwaayyy too rushed)

Yes, I get that is how the manga went. And that is what I meant. But in the review, you referred to the 2013 anime as a remake, and I don't think that is really an accurate description. I think you explained it better in your response. Basically Zurückspulen is the second half of the manga to Rozen Maiden (2006) being the first half.
Also, I agree with your point of the missing torso being too on the nose, and the manga telling the story in a better way. I was just stating that I understand why they chose the torso thing for the animated medium.
Also, honestly, you gave all the explanation that is needed for her torso in the anime, but you seemed to write it off as not making sense. In a world where doll magic is a thing... That's all the explanation that is really needed.

I liked this series when I watched I first watched it but, when I started the reboot/remake I dropped it, I didn't really care if it was improved or, had more content I just couldn't watch it again and, overall I preferred the old art style since it felt old due to the poor quality also, all the opening songs are great and, I have them on my mobile device since they have that cursed carnival or, tragic fantasy bop to them.
The series is good maybe even top twenty-five but, not top ten material for me... if we're talking about the songs though they're top ten or, fifteen to me.
You make me want to buy the Manga, which I just might do, the series remind me of "Sugar Rune", a top ten magical girl series to me(, even if I don't like/enjoy the genre anymore) which honestly not a lot of people know... the show is good but, way better when you read the manga/makes more sense, I don't think it strays to far from the Manga but, I think it does go on for longer and, similar to the mental breakdown thing changes those small things or, removes them such as a character in the series being linked to another character, not making sense when they appear in the Anime but, making sense in the Manga type of stuff.
The reboot was just really messy. The art was gorgeous but the story and pacing was honestly a disaster. The first episode alone rushes through all of Rozen Maiden part 1 (which is basically an entire Manga series in and of itself) and the rest rushes the first arc of Rozen Maiden part 2. A shame because I would've loved to have seen moments like Kirakishou's master (he's hard to explain trust me lol)and the Alice game in general.
I do recommend the Manga but please be mindful that it does get confusing because Rozen Maiden's lore revolves around alternate timelines, different dimensions, inner plains between said dimensions and the validity of reality. It gets very confusing very fast if you're not focusing on it. Oh yeah btw, the Manga is also VERY difficult to find after Kirakishou's introduction chapter. Like we're talking the first volume alone is like $50 if you wanna purchase it legally. Rozen Maiden is also not on websites like Bookwalker at all so you can only go on Manga reading sites for free like MangakaLot (or use MangaLife app like I did)
@@WeebaLu The art of Zurückspulen was meh IMO. The dolls and I guess the humans too, lol, looked great. But a lot of the backgrounds (for example the bookstore where Jun worked) looked horrible. But I'm not surprised, it's Studio Deen.
Sentai didnt dub this, it was Genon productions. Sentai licensed the anime after it went out of print.
