Deer will freeze with light. What I found most effective is turn landscape lighting facing outward so it’s basically in they’re face. I do this with solar lights. It’s what has saved my hostas and hydrangeas
Deer Stopper tape attached to t posts surround our gardens early spring to early winter. We store the nylon tape in the liquid Deer Stopper in a container with a lid. Odor is not offensive to us and the deer won’t come within 5 feet of the tape. It is also available as a spray. Also Squirrel and Rabbit Stopper
We need new videos of the gardens on Mackinaw Island for 2021 please and thank you 😀
Love this channel on utube...love to see a show on hydrangeas types and care...TFS
Loved the 2017 tour of the Stroh cottage garden with GardenAnswer. I'd enjoy watching a time-lapsed video of a project like that, one phase at a time (or a link to one that's already available). Absolutely stunning!
We’ll be sure to do quite a few great ones on the island this summer~~~
Thank you so much. I'm itching to start gardening but it's too soon.
Also, can you show us how to split hostas?
Very helpful. Can't wait till next month!
Thanks Jack! Love your new series!
Deer Stopper liquid / black nylon tape ( available in various lengths). Odorless to humans
Thank you as always, Jack! Your tips on varying height in garden space & dealing with deer so helpful! We're in the foothills of Colorado in the town of Evergreen so deer & elk are a constant challenge. Bobex has been effective for us but terribly smelly.
Didn't recognize Jack w/o his hat!
What to plant around tree roots? And how to create a cottage garden. I'm in San Diego. Thanks for this video, you are really knowledgeable.....
Great info! Planting japaneese maple, flowering crabapple, and natchez crepe myrtles this year...would love to see your approach for selective pruning on trees and shrubs! We also have a HUGE deer problem here in central NC. So far the liquid repels all keeps them away from my hosta and after a buffet of my new hybrid tea rose bushes we've found the granular sprinkle works better than the liquid. The granular repels all also works wonders for skunks here (& safe for our small dogs too).
I really enjoy your videos! I fell In love with Mackinac Island when I butted in on my brother and his bride’s honeymoon! I know, you’re wondering why I would put myself in on their honeymoon? Because I’m a lot of fun on honeymoons! I love Mackinac Island and enjoy seeing it through your eyes and your inspiring all of us be better gardeners! Thank you!
Hi 👋 how’s your day going ? This is so inspirational! 💞😟
Is your personal garden/landscape over the top or simple? Can you give a tour?
Btw.. I love that you are doing more social media interaction! 💚🌿
We’re planning to do a tour of my gardens this year on Mackinac, but the Florida garden is under construction as of right now! Maybe next year on that one! Stay tuned~
Thank you for answering Florida questions. Can we grow hydrangeas in 9b zone??
Yes- the mountain hydrangeas do best~~ like tuff stuff
Love this channel
What is that gorgeous red feather like plant on your right? :) thanks!
I hope you wrote down my question for the next one before you deleted it. Just in case, I'll remind you. I would love to hear shrub recommendations for shade in northern Michigan. I need some height in my shady gardens. Thanks!
Hi! Yes we recorded all questions before we removed the video! We’ll be sure to answer in April Q&A!! Thanks!
@@JackBarnwellDesign Thanks!
After watching this video, I subscribed. I don't deal with deer in my backyard, however, the squirrels are another story. Those funny, and highly destructive little critters, replant my onion sets and flower bulbs, they also plant oak trees, sunflowers, and other seeds into my planters. They can completely destroy a birdfeeder in nothing flat, even the (so-called) squirrel proof ones. Do you have any tips on how to deal with them? Help! ~Margie
My current challenge with the squirrels (in Utah, we now have a non-native known as Eastern Fox Squirrel) is that they are chewing up my Netafim in-line drip tubing that I installed over all of my front yard. I am now burying the drip line 4" down; a definite pain and huge project. They are very destructive also in terms of chewing up patio furniture cushions; I think they want the stuffing for their nests.
An outdoor dog would keep deer out of your garden 🐾🐾
Typo in title: March
Thanks Sheryl!! We fixed it!
Mosquito garden. What to plant to repel them?
Well of course Citronella plants!! Thats an easy one.
