- Gopal Bedi, popularly known by his screen name Ranjeet, has worked in over 200 films. He embarked on his journey in 1970 and carved a niche for himself as a versatile character actor, excelling in villainous roles. Some of his notable performances include appearances in films such as 'Sharmeelee', 'Bandhe Haath', and 'Namak Halal'. He continues to leave his mark, as evidenced by his roles in 'Behen Hogi Teri', 'Housefull 2', and 'Housefull 4'.
In the Mumbai Edition of the ANI Podcast with Smita Prakash, Ranjeet talks about his journey into Bollywood without having a godfather. He shares insights into the changes that have occurred in Bollywood over the last 50 years, noting a lack of camaraderie among actors. Without mincing words, he shares the insider secrets of Bollywood late-night parties in the 70s and 80s.
Ranjeet also discusses his experiences working with legends such as Dev Anand, Raj Kapoor, and Sunil Dutt. He explains why he opted to portray back-to-back negative characters in movies. Ranjeet reveals that he is a teetotaler and a pure vegetarian, a lifestyle choice starkly contrasting with the roles he portrayed in films.
Ranjeet, one of Bollywood's beloved villains, now enjoys retired life in Juhu. He has significantly reduced his film commitments in the last 5 years, focusing instead on minimal work. However, he remains quite active on Instagram with nearly 2 lakh followers.

Smita ji has a god gifted talent of interrupting the guest EXACTLY at the point where they are at the most interesting part of their story.
😀
You are absolutely right 👍🏻
Fully agree.
😅😅
Most interesting part of the story me hi vo deti bhi hai. Quid Pro Quo. Yehi hai Smita😊😮
Not fair Smitaji...the man has so many stories to tell but you interrupted him so much...did not allow him to tell how he got the first film...and so on and finished abruptly...not fair...he deserves another episode
Absolutely, I agree with you. There was way too much interupption from Smita ji..
Agree with your point and I also thought she was quite insulting at various points during the interview. (Aapki koi kaise girl friend ban Gayi, creepy vibe and all that)
Quite gracious of Ranjeet ji to take such nastiness so sportingly.
She is so rude
@@gautamjain7605She was probably addressing the fact that people back then would take you on your face value. His onscreen persona was all about chasing women and making them uncomfortable. So getting into relationship wouldn't be as easy for him as compared to heroes like Rajesh Khanna...
@@us-du44fx4u look at facial expression. And also Ranjeet ji himself had to clarify to Smita ji during the interview that he was not the same person that he was in films.
Smitaji is very disrespectful of Ranjit sahab. Instead of appreciating him as an actor, she is asking questions as if he is real goon. Ranjit sahab is very genuine and kind person. A gem of a person.
She should stick to interview bjp guys only
Sunita ji real stupid idiot woman tried unsuccessfully to insult Ranjeet she doesn't even know that playing villain in a movie doesn't make a villain Shahrukh ne Baazigar aur dar mein villain ka roll Kiya To kya vah villain Ho Gaya use girlfriend nahin milegi kaisi gadhi aur ullu kism ki auraten Hoti hai interview karne ke liye.
Sushmita Ji ko pahle interview karna chahie ki tujhe interview karne ka mauka Kaun diya Ranjeet ki jagah koi Aur hota To iski to band Baja deta hai aisi ghatiya aur bevkufon ki Rani Jaise sawal karne ke liye.
Smita ji is an idiot has to learn how to interview someone then only She should ask questions
Ranjeet tells his story in the most delightful, engrossing manner, despite the meandering length of his narratives. But then, that IS the most natural storytelling way! Smita may not have realized this and tried to cut short / fast forward a few times; finally ending the interview at a point leaving one feeling cheated.
Do get him back for a continuation.
Yes he was middle of his story Nd she ended abruptly..I think she booked her flight too early perhaps she didn't expected a long interview or Ranjit himself was narrating everything at his own that she felt left out as journalist and just end it.
I took multiple break n still hooked to finish it till the end........what a story teller just like a family member narrating their ling incidence
Smita Prakash loves the sound of her own voice. That's why she doesn't allow anybody to speak.
He is so entertaining! 🙂Smita ji couldn’t separate the actor from the person and was cringing all through out, goes on to prove how good of an actor he is. In real life he comes across a s a humble person, no pretensions, no weight. You didn’t give him a fair shot. I just realized after watching this interview, how dedicated and talented he is. He doesn’t drink or eat meat but played all those roles so convincingly. Amazing amazing actor and equally better story teller. Smith ji was not fair to him.
Legendary villain but very good in real life. Now I visualize him as a great story teller grandfather
Smita asks the stupidest questions here. When Ranjeet was talking about the lines he came up with such as "chillaogi toh tumhare paas hi awaaz aayegi" and she asks "how can you come up with some cheap dialogues?". He was right that there's nothing cheap in it. Then she proceeds with her stupidity by asking, like a 10 year old "how did any girl become your girlfriend..how could they date you?". Surely as a middle-aged woman, she knows the distinction between reel and real? I've witnessed her superficial listening and understanding in other interviews too but this was really annoying. Btw, I have met Ranjeet in his house and let me tell you he's a gentleman and a complete family man. He's not creepy by miles and miles.
Absolutely right !!! She's the shallowest podcast interviewer.. she's competing with Beer Biceps for the stupidest interview host.. probably she wins by a whisker
Totally fake !!
You are absolutely correct
@@TheLionKing2345 that fellow from beerbice is a perfect example of a shallow clueless dolt, however all our politicians, celebrities and thinkers line up at his doorstep
Smita ji,should stop interviewing film personalities.
She is good with people from politics.
This deserves a Netflix Series covering each and every detail he is narrating.
Ranjeet wants to tell the whole thing. Smita is cutting in between.
He always came wearing tight open shirts, soaked in sweat, flexing muscles tight, with blood shot red eyes and finally ended up beaten by Dharamji 😮
Yes😂
Ranjeet is a very good storyteller. I felt like I lived that moment. Thanks.
From the interview it is very clear that Ranjeet Ji is a clean soul with nothing to hide. He is not at all lecherous in real life. Also he has never smoked and never touched non veg. In addition, a terrific on screen villain and storyteller, one of the best!
As far as alcohol is concerned, he may have been drinking a bit during his heydays. He mentioned about rum during Air Force days, also some whiskey episodes. But since Smita Ji was hellbent upon proving him a teetotaler and vegetarian, he preferred to keep quiet. Smita Ji was not much interested in the vegetarian aspect of his life since she herself may be non veg, which is totally fine.
Similarly, it’s perfectly fine if he drank a bit during his youth and kind of gave up or reduced after a while wanting be to healthy. He’s 82 now, fit with a mind that ticks. Clear in his conversations, able to walk and move freely and live an independent life. What else does one want at that age?
He was the trendsetter of his time. Ranjeet, Shakti, Amjad, these villains made the Hero for what he was
his look is khatarnak
True.. Heroes are as great as their villains
OMG smita so bad at listening to his wonderful story. He already said at the beginning that he had picked up drinking rum at the Air Force yet she was astonished that Ranjit was drinking whiskey at Raj Kapoor's place 😅 Also I wanted to know what happened after watching the song of Mera Nam Joker with Raj Kapoor she interpreted him at put on a fast forwarded track
Reporter daar gyi hai
Bhai tu Kar na toh podcast
Ranjeet Ji,
You mentioned the name Frontier Club as football goalkeeper Sir, my father was one of founder member of the club, a state level player, even Hockey he played for state before partition.
All my respect
S K Bhatia
You didn't let him finish the Raj Kapoor story.
Ranjit ji is a spell bounding narrator. Public demands another interview with him, MINUS Smitaji please. Make sure to have an interviewer who has the capability to actually LISTEN to the guest.
Ranjeet was speaking of Wengers the Delhi Restaurant in Connaught Place during 60s. It is still there.
Han, aur Smitaji, Wrangler Jeans😂
शुरू में सोचा पोलिटिकल इंटरव्यू से अलग शायद बेकार होगा,
लेकिन इतना इंजॉय किया की एक पल भी मिस नहीं किया,
really ultimate ❤❤❤❤❤
I was so engrossed in the naration that when the eposode ended it was a shock. Just did not realize how 1 hour 45 minutes passed away. I think there should be one more eposide.
Couldn’t agree with this more - Smita please have series of Episodes with this Legendary star from our times
Ranjeet ji wanted to speak more but the interview ended.
Smita prakash -- I didn't like the way you interrupted Mr.Ranjeet. And I didn't like the way you abruptly concluded the interview. And I also didn't like when you kept ranting every now and then that "during my childhood" stuff, just to show yourself as if you are a teenager. Remember that you look quite old despite the make up you put on and despite the lights and all that stuff. Never try to make others feel as if they are old by repeatedly chanting "during my childhood" nonsense
😅😅😅😅
😅😅😅😅
जिस प्रकार रंजीत साहब ने अपनी कहानी और अनुभवों को साझा किया वो किसी भी पटकथा लेखक के लिए एक मिसाल है। रंजीत साहब एक जमीन से जुड़े व्यक्ति है।
These yesteryear stars are extremely articulate and intelligent. Such a pleasure listening to this conversation!
Can they crack bank ssc 😂😊
It was Smita madam "CUTTING CRUDELY".....
Ranjit Sahab was a very handsome villain... I had a major crush on him once upon a time!!! Aur ek Vinod Khanna... These men of those times were beautiful, like saarey nayan naksh sahi jagah par!!
Gosh this is one of the best interviews I have ever seen.. it is.. specially for 70s to 90s kids.. and honestly it came out to be a myth breaker.. he is such a gentleman and at the same time such great story teller.. and so humble speaking out of heart directly without any filters, second best after Piyush Mishra.. only disappointment is it's abrupt ending when he still had so much more to share.. I could have listened to him for the whole day
Very well conducted interview Smita . Ranjeet was in the mood for a 3 hour interview so must have been difficult to keep steering him on track, and that too without offending him .
True...
Smita ma'am do NOT interrupt a good story.
He deserves another podcast, he has so much to share
Legends say Smita prakash is still blushing!😂
After such a gigantic interview I thought the credit to Ranjeet at the end by Smita was absolute mediocre.
She just hushed with a thank you
Not done
The man deserved more than that for all the authenticity honesty and down to earth attitude.
I hardly watch Hindi films but I did watch this villain in the few I saw
The actual man from the villain is like seeing behind the glass in reality.
The man deserved a better thank you and appreciation.
Closure was very abruptly done some how I believe there could have been more from him to share...
But truly Ranjeet ji Aka Gopal ji Aka Goli has been a awesome person
Lots of love and respect to him...
Aajkal ki ladkiyan saari hi nahin pehanti hain, mai kya kheechun...............this was epic and hilarious line..............🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Cant forget Ranjit ka dialog:
"ONCE IN A BLUE MOON ..KABHI KABHI"
Vishwanath
Thank you for your Contribution Gopal Aka Ranjeet And ANI Smita Prakash
Ranjit sahab ne baar baar bola ki wo kuch khaye pite nahi but hum logo ne itni filme dekhi hai ki kisi ko bhi unki ye baate gale nahi utar rahi
Yes yes yes yes yes....excellent choice pf Guest!!! Love this guys acting....Ranjeet Sahab....hats off to you.
One of the noblest person who performed his part in movies so eloquently that his image taken over to his real life.
After watching this interview, I can say, you are a gem of a person! God bless you Sir..!
Smitaji thank you for bringing Mr. Ranjit ji as your guest..🙏
he was a great villain of indian film industry i am a great admirer of this man may god give a good and blessing life a lot of love to him and his family his admirer from district charsadda khyber pakhtunkhwa province pakistan
सही समय पर सही जगह होना इसे ही कहते हैं।लव यू रणजीत जी 🙏
Simple humble person and blessed too...🙏🏻❤️.
Best ever villain of Hindi films was Amjad Khan. And at the end he has taken the spineless Bachchan's name .👌🏼
Superb podcast.
मैं हमेशा से रंजीत को बड़ा ही चीप आदमी समझता था लेकिन लेकिन लेकिन यह तो कमाल हो गया ।
The most famous of all was the Rape Scene of Radha Saluja , Extempore Scene , single shot , no editing , the highlight was that Radha was not told that it is a rape scene, her reactions were all real. The scene began with Ranjeet climbing the stairs into a dark alley , the audio track was the loud breathing of
Ranjeet
gr8, very-2 nice person in real life Ranjit Sir Alias Goli / Gopal Singh Bedi ji ofcourse a very-2 nice actor
The actors of those days were a class apart. What a wonderful narration of bombay film industry by Ranjeet. He comes out as a such a genuine, warm down to earth person.
Very enjoyable episode.
Smita why so impatient he is narrating so nicely
Ranjit ji was very kind as after listening to much words (creepy etc)from the host , he didn't loose his temper but talked with calmness and politeness....
People like Ranjeet Saab are not born often , a very vital part of my childhood memories , very talented and simple
Ma'am, what I could gather from this episode is that you are ill equipped with the information on filmy background .....like vinod khanna is not from Gurdaspur, but, that was his constituency during his stint in the politics....also, those who are obsessed with films are well aware that randheer Kapoor is the eldest son of Raj Kapoor, whereas, you seem to be unaware....also, let the actor speak and don't interrupt him to put across your ill information....
Goof choice of actor to be interviewed who has golden heart. He has lot to tell about Bollywood
Wished more to listen from ranjeet ji but abruptly closed. Please smithaji do one more episode with this gentleman. Please
What a good hearted and simple human being. 🙏
KABHIE KABHIE. Once in a blue moon. Loved it
The voice is still the same ❤
I'm glad you let him go on talking.
Much love.
@ANI , please engage someone else for the POD casts. Let Smita handle the background work. Such a legendary actor is being interviewed, but there is no basic research about him. Asking stupid questions that are irrelevant to the guest. Why should he talk about other actors' lifestyles?
Indian Defences- Air Force - a much better choice than superficial Bollywood. We Indians are so ADHD, we jump so much in between topics. We hop between thoughts. Ha ha! You realize that when you live for decades in another country. It's kinda sweet and annoying both. ❤😊
Ranjeet Jee is such a good human.
Lovely interview.
He is like a supercomputer
He did not leave the IAF on his own, he had to leave due to his senior
Lovable guy! Great story teller! Never knew this side of his personality. As someone said all the screen villains are gentlemen and all the screen heroes are real life villians!
Wonderful stories by the great RANJEET.what a story teller he is .very genuine. But smita prakash very abruptly ended the interview ,without listening the full story of ranjeet.sad
Wow.. Enjoyed throughout his journey 🌟
Smitha ji was actually 'cutting crudely' throughout and made the audience miss what woukd have been a delightful storytelling session by Ranjeet ji
The best interview I have seen these punjabis they share their hearts out when they talk but u kept cutting him off please bring him back for part 2 please those were the best days for friend ships n 8 also miss those tall n good looking actors we had in those 60 70 80s now we have raj Kumar roa so srk AK aushman khurana natus gay looking actors we are being touched by new actors
Any way please do one more interview with ranjeet sahib or bring some one from that era
Smita Prakash doesn't know the ethics of interviewing the decorated actor. No doubt Ranjeet was so honest but Smita spoil it all.
What a wonderful person is Ranjeet sahab. As a kid I used to be scared of him while watching him and his contemporaries in movie theatre. It is frustrating to see Smitaji interrupting unnecessary. She is pretending that she knows everything.
Actually she knew very less
what a nice actor . i grew watching his films. what a screen presence . Bedi saab despite playing negative roles ma hamesha apna pan lagta ha. His role on LAKHAN , laho ka do rang memorable.
reagrds from
kashmir
This guy is natural and humble man love the interview
Such an honest narrative😮. What a man! What luck! What life!
Smita was looking pretty and beautiful for the 1st time sooooo vulnerable, was to it Ranjeet effect. Never noticed her before this podcast.
Never came across this humane side of Ranjeetji - such a close to heart narration
Through this interview I came to know the real Ranjit sir, see how graceful and gentlemen the person he is.
Wow!
What a conversation!
1 hr 45 minutes long interiew at no point felt long!
Thanks a lot Ranjit ji for reminding me about the role of destiny in our lives, though I am still nnot fully convinced.
Your physique must have impressed, Ronnie, I guess, otherwise no reason for such spectacular introductions and the journey thereafter.
Last, but not the least, thank you Smita ji for such a nice conversation.
Always love your podcasts.
Please contiue with the great work.
रंजीत Sir 🙏😇
He is my favourite villian , In the 70's his physics was outstanding , leapord shape type of body . Ist film i saw Victoria No.203 . Remember the song Thoda sa with Saira Banu. Old Actors were the best . Interview is incomplete, must be done 2nd part.
This man was so dreaded on screen; but in real life he is so sweet and genuine.
ThnkU for this wanderfull episode 🎉❤...its a hidden treasure 🙏
It's always pleasure to hear him . Very genuine and wonderful human being.
SMITA JI HAVING GOD GIFTED TALANT TO CREATE AN INTERVIEW
thanks for such a beautiful & real life story of Goli Ji
This is the best episode ever…. He is so genuine and such a natural story teller… no wonder he’s left such an indelible impression on our childhood.
Sir it was Wangers, still serves same taste and a bigger outlet now.
He is such a lovely human being, very down to earth. ❤
Great actor and great human being Ranjeet Saab
madam thoda sambhalke nhi to ye aapko hi chhed denge ..😅
Purane zamane k kissey kahaniya sun kr dil ko sukoon milta hai..❤
The most misunderstood man in bollywood, saw him everyday, lived right beside him
Smitaji……I felt during interview at one or two places you made felt your guest a little bad with your expression and view. Although your intentions were not that, but you are senior journalist and legend. He is legendary villain when I was growing up. Also yes you ended show abruptly, he got many stories.
Most interesting..
"Breaking up all illusions about the appearances and personalities of people."
Legend has it ,Term *KANJAAR* considered now abusive, where as it was a *clan of artists/artisaan*who were not prodginey of any *GHARANA or were NOT trained by USATD´s*. Only to reduce their comeptence and to keep the clan away from respect they deserve . SAME as BHAANGI... is for them who intoxicate or use BHAANG and not OBCs.There is a Bhangiyon ki TOPP in Lahore.MORCHI DARWAZA then was area or market place for sale /replace/repair of amunition is now known as MOCHI DARWAZA
Infact ... these are the qualities of a genuine Artist (Artist by heart). Ranjeet ji - is one such great Artist ! God bless ❤👍
Gem of an interview . Ranjeet is a great storyteller. It was a delight to hear all his anecdotes and unfiltered accounts of his accounts with cinema idols of the 70s and 80s
Thank you ranjit sahab for giving us wonderful movies of my childhood.🙏🏼
What a wonderful storyteller!
He has explained his life screen play without leasening to you mam ,like good directors 🎉
I wish this interview was a little longer.
please part 2 with RANJITJI
One of the humble man seen today ..gem of a person
I felt Smita is a real Villain and Ranjit is a Best human.
