    I just to make it clear. What's the primary goal of the aquaponic? The fish, by providing the organic filter system so you'll get healty fish? Or the plant, by providing alternative nutrient supply, and the fish as a bonus? In hydroponic you feed directly the plants, while in aquaponic you feed the fish. In term of income composition, which product gave you higher result then the other, assuming one set of fish and plants installation?

    Your pretty spot on man. I have a small scale farm and run hydroponic towers and organic soil beds although my
    Specialty is in aqua. Small scale diverse gardens where time and money are not an issue, aquaponics wins every time. I can leave my system for 2 weeks and have someone add water and it’s all good. However, sizing it to
    A commercial scale makes things very complex as far as return water lines and very costly up front and to operate. Contrast that to flow to waste hydroponics, as you say it’s so easy. Cycle timers and pressure compensating drip emitters make running a hydro system a breeze. I use 8.8 gallons a day of nutrient solution for 44 towers with around 6 plants each.
    I’ve done aqua for 8 years and hydro for 3 months. Hydro is superior on a commercial scale but I’ll always advocate aquaponics for gardens, not farms. Awesome points on the kids learning and the general interest in aquaponics 👏🏾

    ... plus, with aquaponics you get high-quality animal proteins! :-D
    A question on nutrients: of course we can't change the ratios of NPK and micros to tailor them to the plants, but we can try to change the water flow in NFT and vertical towers to try to adapt the quantity of delivered nutrients to the different kind of plants, I think. Any advice on how to calculate that starting from data on recommended NPK levels for a specific plant? TY!

    I prefer Aquaponics because there are no chemical solutions involved in growing. I had tasted vegetables from supermarket, made in Hydroponics and the texture was harder. When you tried to bite you could fill the hardness of the Tomatoes. The Hydroponics do exagerate with chemicals and time of production. Those people do try to get as much money as possible in the shortest time.
    Aquaponics Is art and love for work.

    • @soleneisconbi7302
      @soleneisconbi7302 Před 5 lety

      Hydro makes plants grow faster at a young age during the vegetation stage but the fruiting period is no faster than soil growing. Overall the time will be slightly shorter for hydro compared to soil.

      The School of Aquaponics this got me thinking again, wouldn't running hydroponics water through an algae scrubber reset the nutrient balance & in aquaponics if you have a fish die off wouldn't incorporating bioponics help keep the system going till you restock? Grass clippings and scrap vegetable matter should allow cheap reuse of nutrient content and keep bacteria alive right?

    Worst comparison I have ever watched. At first you say hydroponics is too easy. The last thing you said was, that once your aquaponic system works, you never need to change the nutrition concentration. So in your comparison it seems like aquaponics is easier. The only benefit of aquaponics, that you talk about is, that everybody loves it and everybody is more interested in it than in hydroponics. Thank you for your unbiased opinion. In a video like this you have to talk about facts. Like as you already said, because of the individual needs for nutrition of every plant, hydroponics is better suitable for monocultures. But where are the sources? Where did you get this information from? Is it basic knowledge? You should talk about the requirements. What do you need for hydroponics? What for aquaponics? Which technology needs more space and why and does this effect the efficiency of the system? What is about the effeciency? Which factors influence the efficiency? Which system costs more money? Which factors influence that? How much work is to do in each systems? What type of fish should be used in an aquaponic system and why? On what factors does this depend? Which combination of plants an fish should be used? Etc. Etc. (Sorry for my bad englisch, I'm from Germany)

    I've done both, with and without fish. Aquaponics was easier, as in, much less work. Aquaponics is more enjoyable. The best part is that if you do it right, you get the same quality and flavor of growing in soil. Hydro produce is tasteless in particular when you do fruiting plants like tomatoes or cannabis

    6:00 that's not technically true, the key difference between the two is the source of the nutrient inputs. If your fish feed has more of something than the plants use, eventually it will suffer the same issue as hydroponics. Personally I like them both. But the minimum size system for aquaponics is larger and more involved than a minimum size hydroponics system. I can make a hydroponics system out of 2x 5 gallon buckets and a water pump. An aquaponics system also needs an air stone and some fish :) Now that said, Ive never made either system that small. My smallest hydroponics system was about 100 sq ft of growing space. My smallest aquaponics system is smaller than that at 100 gallons, or 2' x 4' tank. My current system is almost 1000 gallons including rain collection , settling barrels, cook off barrels, storage tank, feeding tank. I don't count the growing area, because currently I just use the water to feed my soil grown plants. Tomorrow morning I am getting 300-400 fathead minnows and 100 catfish for the system, which will be expanding by another several thousand gallons over the coming year.
