      That describes me perfectly. I've been on quite a binge of reaction videos lately, and today I've done 7-8 of this performance. I think all but one or two have gotten to me. I've been a Nightwish fan for years but I had never _seen_ this before. I am transported back to 15+ years ago when I first heard and understood this one. My mind boggles at how Tuomas can perform this song with all the emotional charge it carries. But, we are all blessed. This song invites you to feel truly human, if only for 13 minutes. It, perhaps, is the most deliciously melancholy thing in existence. It truly is a masterpiece.

      I dont think its fair to say any song is the best ever made. There are many unbelievably talented musicians out there that have put their raw emotions into their craft and made soulful, highly technical pieces of art that move you but just in a different style and those artists often dont get as much credit as they should, but this song is absolutely heart-achingly beautiful

    • @isaiahwelch8066
      @isaiahwelch8066 Před 4 lety +42

      I don't know what it is, but every time I think I'm going to give up (because depression), I listen to this song, and when the Pendulum finally kills the Poet (right before the heartbeat slows and then stops, as you watch Tuomas figuratively slice his own neck from front to back), I'm reminded of a scene from the first "Matrix" movie:
      Switch: Stop the car.
      *Apoc stops the car, Trinity opens the door*
      Trinity: Please don't do this. You've been down this road, you know right where it ends.
      *Shot of the building where the Agents are located*
      That scene, and this song, for some reason, always reminds me to give it all I've got -- to keep fighting, never give up, and never surrender. To dig deeper into that well of courage and find the strength to go on, even when it seems that well has run dry.
      As someone who suffers from depression, it's music like this that keeps me going -- because it puts into sound what it feels like emotionally inside my own head when I'm fighting my own demons, and I feel like I'm losing the fight.

    • @1973HenkY
      @1973HenkY Před 4 lety +27

      @isaiahwelch8066 Před 4 lety +11

      @@1973HenkY : Not for me. For me, being in the fight isn't enough -- call me insane, but I want the demons that plague me through guilt, anger, frustration, and rage to cease and desist. I want them dead, so I never face them for something that I know wasn't my fault, or for something I know the absolute, horrific, and rotted truth about. It's like that scene in T2, where Arnold shoots the T-1000 after he becomes frozen because liquid nitrogen. After he shatters, he becomes liquid again (because heat from steel plant), and starts to reform.
      My demons are like that: I kill them, annihilate their corpse, but they keep coming back to torment me -- which just makes me more angry and frustrated then, perpetuating the cycle and feeding them energy. And every time, I feel so depressed about this, that I wonder why I should keep fighting -- because the battles, this internal war in my own head, never ends.
      That's why I say to simply be in the fight is not enough. It's never enough to simply show up. You've still got to do the work.

    • @1973HenkY
      @1973HenkY Před 4 lety +8

      I think we are closer than you think: I see being in a fight as an active attitude as opposed to being passive and getting your butt kicked. Strategy and tactics may vary between going full Rambo or going Bruce Lee or Karate Kid or Terminator. All are active, none are passive. Just fight!

    • @Songfugel
      @Songfugel Před 4 lety +21

      @@isaiahwelch8066 I have never suffered from rage or guilt, bu my depression is based on too much information and medical reason, I have slowly progressive terminal illness. So I can't relate or understand your situtiation, but I can feel your anguish.
      Only thing I can offer you in words of possible comfort, is that there are a LOT of people going thorough the same issues you have, so you are not alone. A lot of people are going thorough similar fights, particularly common with vets and law enforcers, but even among normal people.
      If there is one advice I may presume to give, is to try to make a connection with these other people and get professionally guided help. Burdens get so much easier when shared, particularly when the other people can fully understand your pain.
      One thing that helpled me the most during the deepest dives down the rabbit hole, which is what mental health professionals also recommend, is distracting yourself as fast as possible from it and stopping that dive.
      Games worked for me best, since when I play, I can not think anything else, and it gives my brain and emotions enough time to move away from that deadly trap. Also comedies and stand up worked great once I was out of the deeper end.
      Also, if possible, try to find something in good in your life or in the lives of your close ones. Mother, father, siblings, children, spouse, nieces, pets, hobbies, plants... anything, and focus your energy on love for them, instead of feeling guilt for things in the past that can not be changed. Only the future can be changed, by actions you do in now now.
      I hope these advice were not too presumptious of me, since I don't know the true source of your pain or understand it, but I truly hope things would get better for you.

    After years of listening to this behemoth of a track, I finally realized something insanely clever and morbid.
    This works on the official track, since in live versions there's almost always some crowd cheering and the song doesn't immediately start, but the line:
    "Now I have only three minutes and counting [...]" appears at the 7 minute mark.
    Guess what: the "Death", aka the Pendulum crash happens at 10 minutes in. I knew Tuomas was obsessed with detail, but damn.
    To nail the point home, the part after the "Death" is the "mother's" words/calling.
    I can't even describe how happy I am about this insane obsession, talent and time dedicated to this opus and how devastated and sad at the same time that obviously I absolutely shouldn't want to understand what exactly this man must have felt and gone through to accumulate the pain, hope, sadness and emptiness necessary to write something like *this* so compellingly.

    This song still hits Tuomas very deeply. He's a very passionate man, as in, experiences emotion in very powerful ways. This song is still difficult for him, and some times when they play it he'll ask the sound tech to kill the vocals on his monitor so he can just concentrate on the music and not go through that emotional rollercoaster again. And Floor - ... Yeah. Anette's version of this song was great, don't get me wrong - but the little extras that Floor puts in, those emotional notes, little trills in her voice, little moments of fry to emphasize the rawness of certain passages - .... Goosebumps. Excellent reaction btw, thank you. :)

It’s his cross to bear, and bear it he must.... for he is truly loved.

    It's not about an old crush. It's about how Tuomas felt after fireing their first singer Tarja, who was an old childhood friend of his. And the fans and even a minister of the finish government started to turn on him. He went to a very dark place and thought about ending his life. But thanks to friends, family and bandmembers he decided to end his kife in this song instead of in real life. That's why it's very imotionel to him. Sometimes he even cut the singing from his earpiece so he can't hear Floor singing. And that's why Emppu and Marco join him at his podium in the end. To make sure he is ok and to show him support

    The lines that get me, every time:
    "I have but two faces
    one for the world
    and one for God
    save me".
    These get me because the people in the world wonder why people hold in things like depression to the point where one either cracks, committing suicide, or explodes outward, committing a shooting spree.
    I know these things are not popular, and rather heavy, but ask yourself: How many times has something happened to you, perpetrated by another person, and all you can do is rage out and scream, "WHY?!? Why did you do this to me?!?" If you have never had that happen, you are extremely lucky. But for those of us that have...these lyrics match the emotional turmoil perfectly. And what most people miss? These feelings stem from the inherent sense of justice we all have -- wanting someone who hurt us to feel the pain they caused us.
    Heath, I know that this isn't exactly what people might expect, but I feel it needs to be said, nonetheless, especially in the wake of Dayton and El Paso. Point is, if you are dealing with something that is extremely emotionally painful, please...never presume you're alone in how you feel. Never presume that you walk alone. Never think or believe that nobody will understand -- because I guarantee you, someone somewhere does. Which leads me to the next lyrics -- and which I always struggle to keep from crying to:
    "Be still, my son
    You're home
    Oh, when did you
    become so cold?
    The blade will
    keep descending
    But all you need
    Is to feelmy love
    Search for beauty
    Find your shore
    Try to save them all
    Bleed no more
    You have such oceans within
    In the end
    I will always love you"
    This is the carthasis I think is so desperately needed in society: To spite how interconnected we all are, we still yearn for that intimacy that comes from core human relationships, such as family, like one's parents. Those people are who we look to for protection early on in life -- to provide that "safe harbor and port in the storm." If you have that kind of support, value it. Be thankful, be grateful for it. Because this lack of support is a real problem, especially when a lack of trust is also a big issue.
    But the hope that "Mother and Father" brings is this: The hope that only if we truly understand each other will we be able to become better. To do better. And in so doing, forge a bond that is so strong, the only thing that can sever it is death itself.

    This is the magic of Nightwish. Tuomas is a skald. Every song has a story, and the band takes us along the highs and lows. The song starts at the End, and ends on the Beginning, and on the way tears your heart hearing the darkness the band felt, Tuomas especially, before building you back up with hope, getting back on his/your feet, and just going out there again to do what he/you do best
    Search for beauty, find your shore
    Try to save them all, bleed no more

    In the end
    I will always love you

    A sad fact. Her termination, from Nightwish, definitively devastated Tarja. A day or two after her dismissal, she conducted a press conference with dozens of journalists, and she broke down in heavy tears. Good fact. In 2017, she made amends with Marco. They were performing at a Finland Christmas concert and sharing the stage with a few other performers. Marco made his way across the stage & stood next to her. Within a minute, they were all smiles & singing to each other, and hugged at the end. In an interview, Tarja said she and Marco spoke after the show, and have rekindled their friendship.

      From what I understand, Marco was the one who said to fire Tarja I the first place. Toumas definitely took having to fire her hard, though, and had to take a big brunt of the criticism and hate for it.
      But Nightwish's followed with two amazing albums with Annette fronting the band (who definitely didn't deserve any of the hate that she got. It's fair to critic that she really wasn't the right fit for the band, but that really wasn't her fault).
      I also understood that the band actually wanted Floor to replace Tarja, but she was already in a band and didn't want to break up that band just to get her. But now she's fronting Nightwish, and they have one album out with here, and at least one more coming, and I think we're better off for it.

      Just to get it straight for all those who still write that thing.
      Thoumas never meant wanted or thought about killing himself. like never.
      The core of the band went to the same school, letting her go was hard for all of them, and him since he took alot of the heat for it, and NW is his life work and he was unsure what would become of it.
      Even though there was a reason for her being cut, she had said she wanted to do other things, and wanted to do solo things, and that wasnt the right place to be in when the rest of the band wanted more NW.
      This song is in acts, each act about the states he went through with this, the sadness the anger until the end with the words from his mother, things she really did tell him.
      So saying the song is his suicide because he didnt want to do it in real life, even though its more correct than the first, its still not really true.
      In this song he kills off the parts that kept making him sad and in doubt. dealing with it act for act, the anger and pain and all the things that just bottled up inside.
      So not a suicide of him, but of negative parts in him. And there is many things in the lyrics with more than one meaning, the mother part that did happen.
      In the song the boy mention 3 minutes. and 3 minutes later the change happen in the song. And so on. But.. over all. since its a thing people really need to stop writing in every reaction video.
      No Thoumas never thought about killing himself, his own words..
      He have said he never would because he just love life to much.
      And the song isnt his alter suicide, more the slaying of his deamons. :)? using his music to deal with something that really got to him because it was so personal.
      It was his lifes work with the band and music. its was friends and people he had known and been up and down for years. it was fans that didnt understand, it was the fear of what now. what will nightwish be.
      it was everything. And that is why there is these acts.. he is angry this happend, he dont understand it, he is affraid, he is sad, he think of what now. he thinks he is all alone, and he heal.
      Its the road of everthing to do with her leaving the band, the pain to the thought of a better future.
      We need to stop the wrong idea of suicide.. Toumas deserves better than having it turned that way.
      its his song, and feelings and they are as they should be, and meant to be, and is powerfull for it. It do not need a sucide internet fantasy.

      @@venla5375 Sadly some dont want the true answer. Even after being told different they keep to this fantasy.
      And keep spreading the false story.
      Its a shame, and take away from the song, and the story behind it. Not because it would be wrong if he was suicidal, but because the truth is always more powerful than a lie.
      Some people even get angry over this truth because for some reason they want this fantasy about this song and Tuomas being true for some reason.

    I love how this song made you go from Mr. Rock N Roll to the actual you. Gotta love how a reaction becomes purely honest. Not to say I don't like your upbeat jumpy style, I keep coming back to this channel because I do, but down to earth is sometimes perfectly alright as well.

      For sure... sensory overload is real. Floor blows you away out of the gate with Nightwish… after a bit you realize these guys are all amazing talents on so many levels and Tuomas is a musical genius for the ages… and that Floor is the frontwoman they've deserved all along with her ability to emote such feelings and captivate the audience visually as well. Keep up the good work bro \'m/

    Pretty deep and emotional song. The more I watch this video, the more I can see Thoumas' pain in his face and it's truly amazing how Floor is able to express that pain through her voice. The gesture from Emppu and Marko at the end, checking on Thoumas is a true showcase of a bond beyond friendship.

    I am now over 50 years old. But never before I heard a singer who can give you so many emotions just with the sound of his voice. And I love this sweet and gentle "Thank you" after the song. This shows how deep she was into this song. Thank you for that Floor

    Yes, Tuomas is not from this world, don't know where he is from, but he brought the most beautiful music with him that has never been heard here before. He is a genius when it comes to music and lyrics. Well, no surprise you are an actor, every reacting video is a great true reaction from you. As many has said 7 Days To The Wolf will take you on a different ride.
