    I had a colostomy 2 years ago this past January, had diverticulosis and had about 6 to 8 inches of the bowel removed. I had the reversal six months later and have never regretted it. I had to have the full incision the second time. Like you, I was so used to getting the cramps and bloating but in my case it was only every month or so, but the pain would double you over. The reversal went very well and NO PAIN any more!!! A year later had to have three hernia’s repaired and again, the same incision for the third time. I’m healed up now and feel really good and I can eat anything I like and no issues. If I had to have kept the colostomy, I would have been fine with that too. It saved my life!! All the best to you!!

      Was it hard to recover from the reversal? I'm scared. I've had my colostomy for 11 months..

      @cuernavacadave Před rokem +1

      @@cockeyedoptimista Hi: the recovery was very much like the first time, but at least you have an idea what to expect and thankfully, I only had to have the NG tube for one day/night and the dr took it out the next day. About the 3rd day you’re feeling much better and you can see the light at the end of the tunnel. You went through this once, you can do it again. Just be gentle with yourself and know you made it before, you’re strong and resilient and you will get through it and it all will be behind you, (In more ways than one”) remember you have to have a little humour to make the going easier. You’ve got this! Please keep us posted!

    • @cuernavacadave
      @cuernavacadave Před rokem

      I should mention also, many do NOT need the NG tube, in my case, I did. Dr told me that some people have to have it and it’s not common, I’m just the odd duck.

    I still have to wear a seton drain next to my bum hole.

    You 2 support each other really well, or that's what I see anyway. Having had multiple bowel surgeries for fistulas (which left me with long term issues), I can totally understand a lot of what you say. It sounds like things may get better for you in terms of you may be able to do reconnection surgery, but whatever happens, I'm sure you will make it work. You're both very resourceful. All the best you guys x

    Glad you are feeling better. I had an emergency hemicolectomy when my bowel perforated 1.5 years ago. My ileostomy saved my life but also gave me my life back. I feel so much better since the surgery that I turned down reversal surgery - an ileostomy was not something I ever dreamed I'd need but now I have it and have seen the quality of life it's given me I don't want to part with it!

    Paul, I know how you felt with eating, I’ve had so much pain that I had to stop eating everything except for a tiny bowl of plain white rice and I was on TPN for 1 1/2 years. Then I had surgery and was supposed to be able to eat again, but found out I have chronic pancreatitis now and have been surviving on just bread and chicken for over a year now. I’m in the hospital again (have been every month) and it’s so depressing. I’ve been trying all different ways that my Dr.’s have given me to help the pain but nothing has helped so far.

    I will preface my comment by saying that I am sure there are many people who have had successful reversal surgeries, I happen not to be one of them. I have had four surgeries .. I had my ileostomy reversed in 2018 , within months I developed another stricture ..long story short, on March 4th, 2020 I had surgery to remove stricture. I had to have another temporary ileostomy placed which I could have had reversed again. My quality of life has been so much better with ileostomy that I have chosen to stay with ileostomy!! Of course, as you have said would I prefer to not have a “bag”.. absolutely!! If I had a colon that was cooperative and didn’t keep me pretty much housebound and in such discomfort. I can live my life again and I’ll take the ostomy any day!!! I am not trying to confuse you Paul, but I do relate to your feelings about reversal vs ileostomy. You can certainly take your time in making your decision … I know there are people who cannot understand why I’d choose a bag over my colon… I just tell them if you had to live one week with my colon you’d understand!!! It’s definitely a personal decision and you will know what works best for you. I send you prayers and I’m sure you will know when it’s time what the right decision is 🙏🙏👍👍

    • @TheRawLife1

      Every Crohn’s patient is different. For Paul he needs to stay away from gluten and dairy and as well no spicy foods and if he eats veggies it must be over cooked drastically
