- Have you ever wondered how every NBA team got its Logo? Well I did too! I decided to take an unreasonably long time to research each team and create this video. Hopefully you learn a thing or two, too! Each team is listed in the order that they were founded or became a part of the National Basketball Association and I try and cover every logo the team has ever had! I hope you enjoy the history of every NBA logo!

Imma just say it.
90s and 2000s logos supremacy. Give me fun, tacky, gaudy logos over boring minimalism every day of the week.
Haha definitely!
They just hit different
Even though I really like the old one for Denver, the new one is minimalism done well
@@ale3for913 as a Nuggets fan, I actually agree. I love our current logo.
The 90s early 2000s logos were god tier
Haha some real great ones for sure!
The graphic designer in me hates the 90s logos and loves the simple logos like today’s 76ers. It’s simple but can last the test of time but the kid in me LOVES them 90s logos tho lol dope vid!!
Haha thanks for watching! Yeah I love some of the classic flat designs, but then I see the 90s Raptor and I just get excited lol
I did wish the old logos for the Pistons, 76ers, Warriors, and Hawks came back.
What I mean is the Pistons horse chrome logo, the 76ers word mark logo from the 90s, the Warriors lightning logo from the 90s, and the 90s Hawks logo clutching the basketball.
I like them a lot and they look fierce or cool enough. Maybe in a throwback season.
At any rate, another good video, Mr. Justin.
I am curious if you'll branch out and do teams for other leagues like the USL soccer league or even branch out to international sports league like the J.League
Haha the 90s logo’s definitely loom large for me as well!! Thanks for watching! Always considering new leagues to cover for sure!
I miss all of those logos you mentioned and I miss the Nuggets and Jazz as well with the mountains both of them once had.
Warriors' lightning logo evoke nothing but horrible losing seasons tho. I prefer the early 90s logo with the ball
Yes. How states got their name is a great idea. And any other more videos like this. 3rd time rewatching this
Thanks so much! Glad you’ve enjoyed it so much!
great video I think. ive fallen asleep to this three nights in a row! (i go to sleep listening to youtube videos)
Haha well you’re welcome to use my videos anytime! I suggest staying with the newer ones, the music in the old ones is quite repetitive! 😂
Great video again! Thanks for taking the time to make these videos
Appreciate it! Thanks so much for watching!
The Baltimore Bullets were named after an old Baltimore Bullets ABL team but shared the 60s logo with the Bata Bullets shoe -- which were made in a nearby factory.
Bata Bullets were like Chucks, but they've stopped making or selling shoes in the USA (you could find them in Aus/NZ as of a few years ago)
Yeah the bullet factory was definitely a big miss in the name video! I should have thought about that and added it to this one!
Man the blazers logo is perfection for a logo. Made something so og and made perfect sense, looked perfect, and works in all regards with the perfect color scheme
Yeah I really like their logo for sure! Minor tweaks in era but instantly recognizable!
These videos are crazy good. What effort you put into making these!
Thanks so much! I really appreciate you recognizing the time it takes! These last two were 100+ hour endeavors!
@JustinLearnsThings I know it's not much but you've earned a subscriber and a regular commenter!
Fantastic research and narrating, the effort you put into these stands out. Great video man.
Very much appreciated! Thank you!
90s was the best logos. I don’t know why so many teams got rid of those good creative logos of the 90s for the shitty ones that teams are wearing now
I think the problem is that there’s so much oversimplification on things, that’s what messed things up so much. Now I do believe the retro movement hasn’t been bad as far as that part of simplicity but then the ones that don’t, they just lack so much character. The San Antonio Spurs and Cleveland Cavaliers didn’t really need to change their logos either, they were fine as they were. I remember how good the Denver Nuggets and Utah Jazz used to be, now they’re decent at best. The current Nuggets one doesn’t really give me primary logo vibes, maybe a secondary at best. I miss when the Nuggets and Jazz had mountains for both of their logos.
The 90s Jazz and nuggets are so great!
This is a very well made video, love the content
Thanks so much for watching l!
I like the history on the logos. There were a few that I didn't know even existed before hsnd snd I comsider myself one who enjoys finding out info on that stuff.
Great video. I will suggest a video on the history of NBA jerseys. The history on them always fascinates me and peaks my curiousity to the max.
Thanks for watching! Yeah I’ve thought about jerseys, but I’d have to think it through, there’s so many frequent changes! I’d probably have to do like annual updates or something! There’s definitely a good idea for a video!
Awesome video, youll get the recognition you deserve super soon
Really appreciated! Thank you!
Yessss!!!! Do how the states got their names!!!
Thank you for watching! I definitely think that’s high on the list!!
And the shapes too!
Oh yes a video on how the states got their names would be awesome
Thanks!
I remember at age 11 in 1992, I drew and colored every NBA team logo at the time on 8.5 × 11 paper and then proceeded to staple the drawings all over my bedroom walls. The hardest one was the Hornets, but it was also my favorite along with the Celtics.
Nice! Thanks for watching!
18:51 - given that this logo here is using the DIN typeface with "Round" style, it is probably someone trying to remake it. Original DIN typeface was introduced in the 1930 or 40s, but the "round" version only in the 90s. So, very likely someone had fun with it. Good font choice, tho!
Dang that’s a really good eye for fonts!
@@JustinLearnsThings Yeah, well, 30 years of staring at these.. hehe.
Good video able saw the whole thing
Thanks for watching!
I get that some of the new simplistic logos will last longer (and I personally love the Clippers redesign), but for me personally those loud 90s logos can’t be beat, especially when some of them like the Pistons are exponentially better than their current counterparts (in both palette and design in the Pistons’ case)
Yeah some of the 90s will always feel the best to me too, but it may just be my bias! 😂
The Pistons should bring that logo back, I think that would be sick if they did.
New video new banger
Thanks for watching! 🫡
At 34:36
where you talk about the updated Wizards logo. The three stars aren't just representing the three different communities of D.C. it's actually just an homage to the flag of DC (three red stars above two red bands on a white background) The DC flag is based on the Washington family crest. In the wizards up-to-date logo, there's a white band with a red background, there's a Washington monument, and white stars, inverted DC flag colors basically. But they could also represent the three different audiences that come to a wizards game, Virginia Maryland and DC residents.
Yeah sorry if it wasn’t stated but it intentionally mirrors the DC flag whose stars have their own mean and I found it interesting that the team added the meaning of DC, MD, and VA. They talk about it in this article on the team’s website: www.nba.com/wizards/wizards-unveil-new-primary-logo
Thanks for watching!
Zephyrs is also a type of wind, a nod to the Windy City nickname of chicago
Yeah and I since learned a type of commuter train at the time as well!
The Brooklyn Nets logo from 1972-1976 reminds me of the logo of the CBS Television Network!!!
Yeah definitely a similar vibe!
Good job bro!
Thanks!
I love the thunder logo it keeps with okc’s spirit and it makes it cool😎
Thanks for watching!
The GOAT has returned.
Thanks so much for watching! 🙌
can you do a video of NBA uniforms some teams had their basketball courts also have changed some NBA teams also change their primary logo
Yeah I’m thinking of ways to do jerseys! They just change much more frequently so I’m still wrapping my head around what that may look like!
Jerry West is a Legend
Not just an nba player
Thank you for pointing out the hidden “M” on the Bucks logo! Was hoping you wouldn’t miss that! 😅 I absolutely love my team’s logo!
It’s a great logo! Glad you enjoyed, thanks for watching!
The 90's had the best logos!!! Period!!!
Love the 90s logos!
The late 90s was not kind to logos. I'm super glad almost all of them (Mavericks) have reverted back or updated again. Great video.
Thanks for watching!
“Chicago Packers” will always be funny to me
Right? hilarious!
Yep
Chicago Bulls: "If it aint broke, we aint replacing it!"
Basically!
I love this! Would you be able to do this for current USL teams or AA/AAA minor league baseball teams as well?
Yeah I’ve thought about it! USL has had a lot of movement so I’m hoping things settle down a bit!
Bulls logo legendarily iconic ♉️
Definitely
I’d love these videos you don’t know you’re a real sports fan if you’re watching a video explaining every NBA logo
Thanks for watching
Y'all ever notice that the Nets have 8 logos and none of them actually feature a net? (I'm not counting the hoop/rim as it completely lacks a net!)
It’s a net conspiracy! 😂
This is a very well researched and entertaining video, I just wished you didn't say "finally" for all those temporary changes that don't remain part of a current iteration... You are killing me, Justin.
lol thanks for watching! 😂 yeah nothing is final in sports that’s for sure!
I know I am late to this party, but the Minneapolis Lakers came from a team relocating after the 1946-47 National Basketball League, and the Lakers originated from the Detroit Gems who went 4-44 their lone season in the NBL. Fun fact the Minneapolis Lakers won the 1947-48 NBL Championship, the 1948-49 Basketball Association Of America Championship, and the 1949-50 NBA Championship, and again they won 3 straight to become the first 3-peat champions in 1951-52, 1952-53, and 1953-54. Just doing some fun researching.
53:38 For me that's between the Seattle Kraken, FC Barcelona and Ratchaburi FC (when the dragon doesn't have a shield). There is also one more in a more obscure league that I forgot but kinda disappointed that the my country (India) has some weak sports logos (teams like Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mohun Bagan are an exception)
Yeah I’m a suns fan so it’s a bit tongue in cheek! But the NWSL has some of my favorite logos as well! They have some really great designs!
@JustinLearnsThings I have no problem with the cheekiness (I'm a Barca fan, so it would be hypocritical anyways). And yeah, the NWSL has some great ones
Personally the best logo in all of sports is the Hartford Whalers. Absolute perfection
You can do a video on how the states got it is name
Definitely! I hope to get to it this summer but the videos always end up taking much longer than expected!
No way! U actually changed the thumbnail for this video as well?
Yeah I’m working on some updated thumbnails for a lot of the videos. This one seems to be performing well
The other 29 NBA teams' Logo: "Let's change our logo every now and then..."
Chicago Bulls' Logo: "Nah, I'm fine." 35:11
lol basically!
Tell me your a suns fan without telling me your a suns fan
“Robert sarver is gone he can’t hurt you anymore”
Guilty 😂
The Lakers first logo in Los Angeles is actually a giraffe logo that introduced the designs in 1960's ERA Jerseys way before this logo 28:58 existed. It's was around probably from 1960 or the 1961-62 season. And it was officially seen in a 1961-1962 merchandise Jim Loscutoff Rod Hundley Los Angeles Lakers Boston Game Program guide book.
There’s not lot that’s been written around that logo… I’m slowly working on a video for it, but trying to get some sources. It may be something just used on a fleer set, neither the Lakers or NBA acknowledge it as an official logo, but is that to bury it or what? Idk!
@@JustinLearnsThings i’m sure the giraffe is still the first official though, because after all, it was also used and seen more often from the 1961 NBA cards as well along with more than one lakers player like Jerry West. Otherwise, the first fonts on their jersey, probably would not exist or the 1962 Lakers logo would’ve showed up in the NBA Players cards as well, just like the Syracuse nationals.
@@superbrycestudios5006 Yeah its weird... I came across a theory somewhere that the fleer set with logo on the cards may have been a placeholder that got printed pre-move or something to that effect. I can't remember where that came from. I probably need to try and get my own sources on that. I wonder if there's anyone at fleer that could look into something like that!
The 1992 Bulls logo is my favorite, but 2013 Bulls logo is also good.
Haha the bulls logo is great any year!
man a lot of teams got shit logos. like a logo is good when u can wear it and not feel goofy. like u have to think about size, design, words if any, and color schemes
Yeah the more classic the vibe (or maybe evergreen?), even if updated, the better in my book
Thoughts on the new Clippers logo
I think it’ll be pretty cool! I like bringing the ship back into the design language! I plan on making an update video for the start of the season!
90s logos go hard but the warriors 97 logo is so much worse than generic circle logo #57 (I still think the warriors have one of the best circle logos)
Yeah the bay bridge logo is pretty great!
Come on, NBA. We know the current Hornets are the original ‘04 Bobcats, and the current Pelicans are the ‘88 Hornets.
🤫 haha
Is that a bad thing? I don't see why not.
Still better than the Lakers and the Jazz keeping their names which have zero correalation to the city they moved in😂
I'm not sure the Los Angeles Mariachis would be as popular...
@@tonychen3628yea, but as a Laker fan, its always nice to give a little history lesson to those who don’t know and u cant change it now, its legendary
the LA Clippers, Pelicans, the New York Knicks, are changing their logos back to the ones back in the 80's and 90's/updating their logos for their team name add a footnote to this video
I know the clippers just announced their upcoming change for next season. And i know the pelicans and Knicks had some small changes to begin this current season. Are you saying there was a new announcement for those teams? I haven't seen those yet!
i like a lot of the 90s logos but goodness, that 94 Kings logo is a mess...
Haha yeah that’s not one of my favorites for sure!
Sometimes things are better off just left alone
Gotta love the Timberwolves! The reason is because I'm proud to be a Minnesotan. 🐺🏀
Congratulations you have something special with ant for sure!
@@JustinLearnsThings Thank you!
11:22 Why in the hell DID Sid send those cuff links?? We need answers.
Nike and the NBA are teaming up for the 2023 2024 basketball season with new logos and uniforms can you update your every NBA logo video
Yeah I’m looking at what will be the best method… I’m thinking maybe a yearly end of year update or something!
53:17 - Dare to explain what in your opinion makes it the best logo? Not really disagreeing, just curious. Video about the best sports team logos? : )
lol just being facetious as suns fan 😄
@@JustinLearnsThings Haha, oh man... in that case... ehm, condolences for this year? 🌄
So the kings, pistons, hawks are the 3 oldest teams in the nba
Yeah I think most people would be surprised that those teams top the list!
Was there ever a black and orange version of the Buffalo Braves?
Not that I remember seeing but it’s possible!
Yea they had an orange and black jersey with an orange and black B. They went to the baby blue uniforms after with the blue B
All the logos from 2003 are the best😅
Haha thanks for watching!
Nets really abandoned the best logo in franchise history when they moved to BK
I really like the nets old blue and red one too!
I was under the impression that a zephyr was a breeze/wind.
Yeah also Greek God of wind! Definitely the namesake of the train line!
the Lakers updated the logo to just the letter L in front of the yellow basketball their current logo
That is a pretty good logo. I think it’s been their alternate logo since the early 2000s!
The grizzlies logo needs some work, coming up on 30 years would be a good time to whip out something new
I’d go back to the bear! 😂
Why did all teams change their logos around 96?
I think there’s a couple of times where the league switches from like Nike to Rebok back to Nike or something like that and it causes a bunch of logo changes (probably to try and drive sales or something along those lines!)
I can’t remember if ~96 was one of those times or not
What bothers me is the fact that most of the teams have the ball as the main object of their logos, I don't see other sports over-using the ball as logos as the Nba teams does..
Yeah that’s definitely an NBA thing! WNBA incorporates the ball quite a bit too!
I always thought the trailblazer logo could be flipped and then it’d look more like a P.
Definitely a 'P' in there somewhere! Thanks for watching!
90s 00s logos were the best
Thanks for watching!
1997. The year b-ball team logos died.
So awful. I heard once that the teams thought they'd sell more jerseys pairing colors that went well with blue jeans. Anywho, I think they were pretty hideous and much before the old school logos and the throwbacks many teams have returned to. But that's why there was a lot of dark navy blues, dark dusty golds, dark reds, teals etc....
Haha that’s hilarious! I never heard about trying to pair things with blue jeans!
Let’s be honest the Lakers should’ve changed their name when they moved to LA . Name makes no sense to In reference of LA
Yeah, I think it would’ve made sense then but now it’s too late!
Same with the Jazz. Salt Lake City is likely the "least Jazziest" city in the country.
LAkers
Man the 90s logos with the exception of Celtics Pacers and suns were truly horrendous. The early 2000s ones aren't far behind
The NBA was targeting children with all those cartoony designs and as a kid of the 90s we ate that all up
@@averageant7173 nah that's just some period thing the nhl and nfl ones are the same
Yeah it’s interesting how some land on a timelessness while others like the SuperSonics got way worse lol
90s was peak kid! We had all the power to attract advertisers!
I don’t think I will ever fathom what was going on in the minds of logo designers in the four major sports during the 90s. In my opinion, it was by far the worst decade for aesthetically pleasing logos.
minimalism kills almost all the NBA logos and its unfortunate
like my 5 personal favourites were Raptors, Grizzlies (Van), Pistons, Jazz and 76ers
Yeah the Jazz for me have a couple of great logos but this newest all black j note is not it for me!
2017 cavs logo is better
The Seattle Seahawks were lazy and just straight up stole what the Atlanta hawks did.
😂
Please talk a little bit faster. I had to put the video on 1.75x speed to not click off the video.
Those 1990s logos are HORRIFYING! Thank GOODNESS many teams are reverting back to updates of older logos.
Some true classics died in the 90s!
I think you mean the best. Pistons, Jazz, Rockets, Sonics, all amazing.
That pistons flaming horse logo was what made me an NBA ang pistons fan. it looked so bad ass at the time that it made me invest a lot of my life on that team.... until for some god knows reason they changed it to be that bland looking generic logo of the team name and a basketball behind it. i'm now presently a celtics fan and thankfully so coz the pistons has been trash since they abandoned the flaming horse.
lol you dodged a bullet with that one 😂
I associate the horse logo with the Grant Hill era. I believe by the 2004 championship team it was back to the circle.
Never realized The Lakers had the most boring logo
This is what I hate about U.S. sports we have so many teams that often relocate that it becomes a joke. like the lakers playing in a fcking desert. Franchising is such a cancer to sports.
38:01 this logo looks like a political party logo
In my opinion many of the logos now are lazy and NO imagination. They just suck.
A lot of the 90s logos are terrible. So many of them have absolutely no relationship to the pre-existing historical logos (see Kings, Pistons, Warriors, etc.). Looking back, those logos are extremely dated and reek of "how do you do fellow kids" from a corporate bigwig. That said, nothing beats a dinosaur dribbling a basketball.
Oh very 90s for sure! And I agree the raptors logo was so great lol
TALK FASTER
😂🤐
Pelicans is the worst team name in professional sports
Yeah without getting the Jazz name back, I’m not sure what direction they’d go if they ever made another change
yea, if u pick an animal, its gotta be intimidating like a timberwolves or a grizzly, but noones scared of a pelican
A lot of modern logos and jerseys are trash
I wonder how long the current blacked out jazz logo holds
Vancouver and Seattle need to have teams again, Seattle first of course.
Yup totally agree!
