  • "The Hendersons will all be there, late of Pablo Fanque's fair..."
So goes Being for the Benefit of Mr Kite, on The Beatles' 1967 album Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. But who was Pablo Fanque? And why is he buried in a cemetery in Leeds?

For the benefit of Pablo Fanque, there'll be a CZcams vid swank on history
How many remain unaware that Beatles wrote about Fanque's Fair is a mystery
Yorkshire's Hidden History exposes that Leed's connection to us all
Let's give thanks that Pablo Fanque is shown to the world

Thanks for this! I only knew the broad strokes of his life from a railway history perspective because he ran a circus on the location of what became Norwich Victoria Station so this was really interesting!

Some interesting history here and I really enjoyed it! Who would've thought that a well known song from The Beatles was inspired by a Circus owner from the 19th Century! Keep up the awesome videos and i look forward to your next video!

Fantastic research and insight. As a Beatles nut I like to think I know a lot about them including the story of the poster that inspired Being for the Benefit of Mr Kite. This is a brilliant piece of research ...i'm well impresssed. Many thanks.

I’m also obsessed with the Beatles and have all my Dad’s original records, including Sargent Pepper with the cutout still in tact. I knew the story of the poster but not about the people. Good video.

As for Fanque and widowhood - THREE months and re-married?!!! It makes me want to believe in an afterlife involving pearly gates and a celestial rolling-pin reception committee for the man. Bet he'd head the other way instead of meeting the first other half again.🙄😠🤣
