This brings back memories. I worked at the University of Heidelberg 37 years ago and my daughter was born there.

Was stationed in Germany for 3 years (83-86). My oldest child was born in Heidelberg in 85 while his mom and i were stationed at Neureut Kaserne in Karlsruhe.
This is a short distance up the Neckar River, maybe 15 km, from my family's ancestral home in Mannheim. In the early 1700's, French-German warfare swept the region and many Protestants emigrated. They traveled up the Rhine and across the sea to England, were sworn in as British subjects, then boarded ships for the New World. My ancestors arrived in America in 1726. I still wonder at the courage and determination it must have taken to sail across an ocean and carve out a new life for yourself and your family in a veritable wilderness on another continent.
Meanwhile, back in Heidelberg, I'm really fascinated with the beautiful Baroque architecture, that beautiful red building stone, that gorgeous bridge, and all the sculpture. Gorgeous small city. A snapshot from another age of the world. Thank you.
It is so good: no words, few people, beautiful music, and spectacular city! A moment to remember!
It's a dream of mine to visit this gorgeous German city. Despite the cars and bicycles that drive along its streets, it still has a medieval feel to it. There are few places I'd describe as Heaven on Earth, but it truly seems like this place fits the bill.

I was stationed at manhiem in the early 70's we would take the train there on the weekend,brings back a lot of memories, the market on Saturday in the square, food drink and of course the castle, have you ever seen the burning of the castle? It is beautiful.

According to legend, the triumphal arch was built in sections, erected overnight, and presented to Elisabeth the next morning as a surprise birthday gift.......
I found this on the web. As I am not able to describe it as thoroughly as the old lady,the local tour guide did.

Does that really unique sundial read 8:30am a bit after 3 minutes into the video? Look like it starts at 7am and goes to 3pm which was probably the market hours and general work day for centuries. I have quite a few good memories of going to Heidelberg when I was stationed over there in the 90's. Germany and Europe are always interesting.and lots of fun to explore.
