    MSI’s Cyborg 14 is a lower end budget friendly 14” gaming laptop compared to the competition. But a lower price means compromises have to be made, which is why I bought one to test out in this review!

    Really cool to see these 14" gaming laptops come back from the dead, remember Alienware used to make 13 and even 11 inch gaming laptops in 2010-2012, very interesting time

    • @ctrl_x1770
      @ctrl_x1770 Před 3 měsíci +5

      The extreme thinning of bezels + lighter yet more powerful hardware probably made it happen. I'm assuming 14" gaming laptops were never niche in the first place, since people who travel a lot and also hope to only buy one laptop for various uses are dime a dozen. But considering the explosive rise of handheld PCs and larger-screen phones, 13" to 11" laptops may not come back for the foreseeable future.

      Any laptop can have coil whine, it's normal, usually once the fans are going or you throw on some headphones it does not matter. I do not think coil whine is a valid reason for warranty/exchange. You just roll the dice and waste time to probably end up with the same thing.

    I own an entry level cyborg 15. I bought it discounted 650 usd which is cheaper than any same spec laptop which range from 800-1000 usd due to taxes here in the Philippines. It is a powerful machine but I'm too worried about the temps due to its single fan design. The temps shows 70°C but the top cover above the keyboard is so hot to touch. My biggest regret with this laptop is the ram & storage thinking 8gb + 512gb is enough. Now I need to upgrade to 16gb + 1tb but it will cost me 150usd and it has a single ssd slot no expansion at all plus If I do it myself my warranty will be voided. I should have bought lenovo or an acer with a ryzen processor. The metal chasis really caught my attention with this laptop and now I regret with my decision. 😂

As long as it's priced appropriately and performs well enough, we shouldn't get so hung up on the wattage.

I didn't spend near enough time looking as I should have. Was able to get a Cyborg 15 with a 2 terabyte SSD and 64 ram an i7 and a 4060. Just hope it can at least run current gen games with good fps I love beam ng drive and battlefield.. physics sims I really hope I didn't mess up purchasing this model. Crossing my fingers for when it arrives.
    Also thank you for the MSI cheat code for the control panel. I'll try to see if I can change the wattage myself.
    Edit:
    Didnt really do much tweaking nor did I mess with the bios. But I used MSI center to adjust my fan curve. And since the mobo and software use power and edp throttle limits laptop stays nice and cool with out having to max out the single poor fan doing all the work. Even throttling I can play ultra beam ng just fine. So happy running a nice 72 degrees no cooling pad at 4200 rpms for the fan. Very nice

But either I didn't undervolt correctly or the mobo is already optimized to run at certain clock speeds and throttles when necessary. since it has above average specs no frames are really lost do to throttling. But I do wish I could get at least 70c would be nice. Any ideas?

      @@adrianalcomendras6754 it's a great laptop as long as you can keep your room a decent temperature the laptop throttles but it never impacts performance even star citizen so long as the specs are fine. I didn't need to tune anything really I tried but failed.
      The mobo is designed to push the card and CPU till a certain point and it cools down naturally. Adjusting the fan curve is all I really did. Put it in performance mode and every game you play looks beautiful and runs smooth.
      Where I live it's always hot especially in the day so the laptop would just be circulating hot air which doesn't help temps. The laptop doesn't need max fan boost either just a nice decent room and elevated a little bit and it's totally fine. Great laptop so far love how sturdy it feels and the metallic looks. For example, I'm a university student who stays in a very tight dorm room, in which a third of the space is the bathroom, and that's when it was empty; and this was an upgrade from my previous dorm, which was even smaller. I certainly would appreciate a laptop at this size more than I would laptops at a larger size, let alone a PC - it's just much more practical for the living space that I do have.
