    Our pal Wes plays around with the brand new Eurorack versions of the 258 and 281, two of Buchla's 200 series foundational modules. These wonderful recreations have a lot of history behind them, so lets take a listen to some classic west coast sounds, and patch examples.
    For a seriously deep dive on these phenomenal modules check out our blog Signal : bit.ly/3vX8nCW

    The 281 A/B and C/D outputs are not crossfaders, they are mixers, where A and C are always at unity, and you mix B and D into those outputs respectively. -- And in Quadrature mode, it is not the end of cycle output that triggers the 2nd function, but the end of rise output that does. This is more like two overlapping functions, rather than two sequential functions. For example, you could use the decay time of the first generator as a sustain time for the second generator, and then used the mixer section above to create an ASR envelope. Try running A/B in quadrature mode, but sending the EOC output of A to trigger C, and you will see that B and C do not run at the same time. - EDIT: Just read the blog post in the description, and it describes this behavior correctly. Worth a read

    They sound incredible. I wish you would’ve explained what else was on the table to help the viewers understand what’s going on. Or at least provided links below for featured modules. All in all, this was a great demo to help me understand a general idea of what they can do. 😊

    I was a bit thrown of at first by the 258 because it is "wobbly" when you FM it. I considered returning it but after watching several demo's (like this one) I have come to realize that is a feature and not a flaw :)

      Oh my gosh- are you saying that when you use FM, it modulates the frequency? Shocking!

    Can you make 281t in trig or cycle mode to tempo sync with other modules?

    Would love to see a comparison to Buchla Easel and Buchla Easel command to see how close these come in sound.

      apples to oranges, two totally different design missions and these are modules, easel is an entire whole instrument.

      I have a Command and these two modules - hard to compare, because the Tiptop Buchla system doesn't have a LPG yet so what you're really going to hear is the difference in a Buchla LPG and whichever one you choose in Euro. The Euro 281t is more powerful than the Command EG and the oscillators are, well, oscillators.

    Off topic but why do the pod cases have two power supplies?

    • @0228christian
      @0228christian Před 2 lety +1

      Left jack is power in, right side allows you to chain power to additional pods so you don't have to have multiple wall warts.
