As a Japanese, I’m impressed that the goodness of WHEN THEY CRY is well known in foreign countries.
Even so, I think it does not get the attention it really deserves, Higurashi is incredible.

When one thinks of good horror anime, Higurashi is almost always the top. Quite the feat.

This really sounds like Satoko is singing! After learning this song is sung from Satoko's POV, it really changed my perspective on this creepy opening.

Okay, so I've been thinking about this comment a lot, and I've come to my own crackpot conclusions, if you'd like to take a hit with me.
So, I think that Rika's eyes being closed is the most obvious thing. She's blind to the new dangers she'll be facing this time around.
Satoko's is also pretty obvious, since y'know. She's culprit for Rika's sake, so her attention is on Rika.
Now, Keiichi and Rena looking at eachother doesn't seem to have much of a deep meaning. Maybe it's supposed to mean that they don't know a time loop is happening, and they're just caught up in their current happiness, but I wouldn't be sure. I guess an interesting note would be that Onidamashi-Hen was almost completely about those two, and they even had some beginner's romance sparking in there, so maybe that's why they're in a set.
And Mion. Mion perplexed me for a long time, and even had me thinking the symbolism was all in my head. I couldn't figure out why she of all people would be smirking towards the camera, looking at us and completely confident. And now that we know she's not culprit, I just really couldn't figure it out. And then I considered Shion. Because Shion is a much more confident character, and plays an interesting role in Gou. She and Satoko have different relationships in different timelines, but in their sister bond relationships, I have no doubt that she would play second culprit for Satoko's sake. And, we haven't seen too much of her in Gou, and she hasn't appeared in very much promotional art. Maybe they're switched right now, and Shion is smirking because she knows what's happening? Idk, this is where most of the crackpot is coming from.
0:51-1:04 These lyrics hit close. I was someone's friend for 8 years. 8 long years. Last year it was as if they were drifting farther away. I was more willing than anyone else to be their friend yet it was if I never even knew them once they got new friends. I hate remembering any memories involving them now. Sorry for the little story, but what I mean to say is amazing cover!:)
it’s a shitty feeling for sure. unfortunately it’s a common experience of growing up to lose friends you thought were going to stick around til the end. i personally had to deal with a form of that about two years ago (but it wasn’t a friendship of 8 years, god damn!) One thing I can say though is that I think it gets better as you get older. You make more meaningful connections with people while still being independent enough to know what to do if those relationships ever fell through. Situations stay shitty, but people get better. It’s all part of the process. Thanks for sharing your story!

It's like I'm always hitting a brick wall, besides how they act I know nothing about them and it's always been like that. Again, sorry to ramble on. Looking forward to more covers!

I come back to this every couple of months and i literally can noT describe how well you hit "the nature" line. The vibrato is so so crisp and it's just so satisfying

No idea if you'll see this but just wanted to say I love this. The lyrics are brilliant. Your vibrato and breath control is fantastic, especially when you transition between the more restrained higher sections to the belting parts. Really powerful!

As much as I enjoy Amalee's version of this song, I can't help but think your lyrics are better at telling the story from the show and giving the song a different context. I. Especially like your lyrics, something to the effect of, "she's smiling as if to mock me." That line right there alone is brilliant. It suggests that another force is at play outside of Hanyuu and a lot believe the lyrics to be from either Satoko or Hanyuu's perspective and they're saying these things to Rika. Just a theory. Anyway wanted to comment and say I like your take. On this song. It's really good and you have really solid and strong emotional vocals.. please do more covers. I'd. Love to hear your take on "Dawn" or "Homura" by Lisa. :) 💟💟💟💟

Its funny to think that when this anime first started I thought to myself "hmm I feel like watching a slice of life anime, oh Higurashi ep 1 this just released yesterday the thumbnail looks like a slice of life so lets watch and see" to my surprise this wasn't a slice of life it was even better. After watching both seasons now I see that this anime is a masterpiece and is one of my favourites.
