Ah! The POWERS TO BE (...and they know who they are...) really enjoyed this stroll down Memory Lane. Hey and who could forget when Morgus the Magnificent did the Weather on WWL Television? Man, that Humidity Rag was the best invention on TV.
I too, saw him as a kid in New Orleans, but that was about 1965 on black and white only TV. This video must be a remake of the original. For one thing, there were no such things as "home video recorders" back in the day. I thought he was the coolest thing, good memories in a strange sorta way.
One of my fondest childhood memories were when I'd fall asleep watching Morgus the Magnificant with my grandma at her house on the weekends. You just can't buy those kinds of memories.
Morgus is such a NOLA staple-I was born in ‘91 and still grew up on it. Also Mr. Lucchese in this clip is my grandfather Donald Bernard! His daughter, my mother (Donna) was also in another episode and also does some opera singing in that one-was the one where Morgus was putting people into cabinets for cryostasis, lol. I remember watching that ep as a little kid and being terrified that my mom wasn’t coming back out of the cabinet, despite my actual mom being beside me watching it with me, lmao.
I think the man who was experimented on here was Donald Bernard, a local opera singer here in New Orleans. That would explain Morgus singing the aria at the end of this piece.
I check out Morgus every so often to see how he is doing. I watched him with my father when he first started, 1959, maybe earlier. I was at that time of life when fathers and sons disagree about just about everything, but with Morgus, we were laughing together. Dad, who was the Dean of Architecture at Tulane, died at the end of that summer, so the memory of our stereo fits of laughter has that added sweetness that Sid Noel made possible. I'll always be grateful for that part. .
I remember watching this as a kid on Saturday afternoons in 1980s (the golden age of television). TV doesn't do fun stuff like anymore. In the 80s you had TGIF, Saturday morning cartoons, and this. Now all they show is "Law & Order".
I remember when he second line at the end of one of his episodes lol, it's funny how u can remember something that 20 odd years ago & I'm just 26 I remember watching this with my fam @ 3 years old!
i remember watching this as a kid, I loved it ;-) wish there was a way to get them on dvd or something, sure the quality wouldn't be great, but still it would be awesome to have as alot of us New Orleanians lost everything else in the storm, would be a nice something to have as another memory.
In Norfolk VA there is a local character called Dr. Max Madblood. He had brain who's construction was very similar to ERIC from the 60's. The show was more lighthearted and had a semi permanent cast that rotated appearing on the show. I often wondered where the idea for Madblood came from or was he plagiarized from Morgus?
This is the real deal it always will be nothing can touch this show they didn't have the luxury of alot of money it's how it needs to be you can't find anything with this much creative hard work thank you for posting this I love this show I appreciate the chance to watch this again thank you from the bottom of my heart for posting it thank you
ever notice in the first back to the future movie the names of scientists in dr. browns room, when he says 120 gegawatts and goes in his room and talks to a picture of edison] morgus has them near his ceiling from back in the fiftys, I wonder if speilberg got that idea from morgus
I wonder if his inspiration for the Morgus costume and look was Professor Kelp from the original Nutty Professor? Reminds me A LOT of Lewis' character.
Very nice!!! I LOVE MADSCIENTIST!! I live with one, a lifesize autotronic figure that moves and talks..He has his own channel too..Dr. Wolfgang Morbius MD madscientist71.. LOVEV IT!! GR8 JOB!! ~GS~GHOSTSeekers CZcams Partners
Lol, Morgus was the man. Seriously though, when I was a kid my best friend and I got to stay up late to watch the horror classics (some not so classic), hosted by the genius, of the quite mad, Dr. Morgus. I mean what else was he supposed to do? The man has an I.Q. of 300+! Good times for sure. Many years later I had a girl in my studio and after finding out we were both from NO, she asks me if I ever watched Morgus. I said yes and she laughed and told me her dad in real life was Chopsly! Gotta love it!
One of the greatest things about living in New Orleans was watching Morgus!! Shame that as far as I know, none of the shows exist on tape from the early 60's & 70's.
The first Chopsley was played by Tommy George a St. Bernard deputy sheriff. Tommy died and a new Chopsley was selected. To my knowledge no one knows who the second Chopsley is.
They used to showed old scary movies in between his experiment. it was on top of the old ice house in New Orleans,la. I told you that my sister and cousin went out with him
i love morgus.if anyone is interested morgus is now being rebroadcast(not new material unfortunately) along with those bad horror movies on cox10 in new orleans@10pm saturdays and replayed @3pm sundays. morgus is still great but it seems like the movies have gotten even worse.(ha!)
My sister and my cousin went out with him. I was only 14yrs. old. I was too young he said. Now they said that he is very handsome man. They made him ugly for t.v.They said that his real name is Sid Noel.Tommy Geroge, used to live next door in St.Benard.Her name is Diane. She is the sister to the cousin linda who went out with him.Tommy died of a heart attack Diane said in the 90's.
Man, i missed watching this on public television
Ah! The POWERS TO BE (...and they know who they are...) really enjoyed this stroll down Memory Lane. Hey and who could forget when Morgus the Magnificent did the Weather on WWL Television? Man, that Humidity Rag was the best invention on TV.
There was only one Morgus! One of the great things about growing up in N.O. was seeing Morgus on Saturday nights!

@JackSFA I lived in suburban NO too and watched on WGNO. Came on way pass my bedtime but I always sneaked to watch it. Great memories!!!

I’m 13 years late on this comment but yes you’re right! He is my grandfather and his daughter, my mom, appeared in another episode as well.🥲
Every Saturday night I would tune in to see Morgus, Chopsley, and of course Eric.
I check out Morgus every so often to see how he is doing. I watched him with my father when he first started, 1959, maybe earlier. Morgus was (and still is) played by Sidney Noel Rideau, an ex New Orleans disc jockey.
I started watching this show at the tender age of 3years old. Lol. #PureNolaBaby🎭
Oh shittt....look what I found. I used to watch this when I lived in Ocean Springs Miss. back in 1965 to 69.

@JackSFA Yes... He is alive. Would love to shoot another movie before he passes on.
He reminds me of one of my teachers at Corpus Christi.

I've tried to enjoy the show that comes on metv, but it's not the same. I wish they would put this back on TV.
Excellent stuff. Too bad he never made it 'really' big. This is at least good as the Three Stooges and Abbot and Costello

i WILL A LOT OF MONEY TO GET THE EPISODES OF Morgus
0:52 - Is he flashing gang signs?
Morgus used to scare me az a kid, too young to understand the humor. A great local NOLA production, entertaing funny content. Love Morgus!
