Let's travel to the Channel Islands and let's visit the island of Guernsey to visit the second world war (WW2) German bunkers and fortifications of Guernsey, Guernsey is an island in the English Channel off the coast of Normandy. Guernsey lies roughly north of Saint-Malo and to the west of Jersey and the Cotentin Peninsula. With several smaller nearby islands, Guernsey forms a jurisdiction within the Bailiwick of Guernsey, a British Crown dependency.
After the Wehrmacht occupied the Channel Islands on 30 June 1940, during WW2 (the Second World War) they assessed the existing defences to determine if they would be of use. The Germans found Guernsey's fortifications antiquated and woefully inadequate for modern warfare.
The resulting construction work of German fortifications in the Channel Islands was extensive; it required thousands of workers and massive supplies of cement and steel. Tiny Guernsey received special treatment. It had the largest artillery pieces in the Channel Islands, tanks, and 12,000 troops, one soldier for every two civilians on the island.

What you see here is in reality a small part of the total. All these bunkers had electricity, pumps to keep them dry and accomodation for the soldiers. There also is secondary installations away from the beach, many simply buried.
That bid steel door slid up and down and it seems what held it has rusted away. Give it another 20 years and some of this will all be gone.

When i was very young,in the early 70's,all of these bunkers were open to explore.I remember one which i think was on Vazon bay that still had what remained of the bunks in it.Is's good in one respect that they are being looked after now but it was fun just to be able to roam around them in an un-preserved state
I would have loved to go inside these bunkers... I will be going back to Guernsey once again inorder to videotape all of them, I hope I get a chance to go inside..
Although i was only between the ages of 6 to 9 on our visits to Guernsey,it was very interesting.Sadley,quite a number of the largest bunkers have been bought by local residents as sort of extensions to their properties

Great video history from past. Once a defence post against the brits and now 80 years on used as defence against the encroaching sea.. Its interesting to note only if had a micro drone with light to navigate way in the bunker that once used for MG42 through those gun door hatches. Interesting video vic ww2 😊 👍

This area of WW2 German bunkers, the Germans called 'Widerstandsnest Grune Dune' which is at Rocquaine Bay, St. Pierre Du Bois (St. Peters), Guernsey. I made a video about it.
