Im not a Celtics fan but Tatum is definitely deserving of minutes especially since Kerr said himself 1. He felt like an idiot not playing him but 2. LMAO, Bam is one of the reason why they can get away with playing Curry, Ant, Booker in the game, he takes over the toughest matchups, as a person that can guard 1-5. Your Not playing Tatum over Bam on Team USA with this build design. AD/Bam are you defensive frontcourt locking down the paint, Embiid has been terrible. If Tatum wants playing time, he needs to be more of a motion shooter like Booker.

Rui has a better shooting percentage, a better defensive rating and he rebounds better than Grant. Grant has a higher scoring average because he gets to shoot more on the blazers than Rui gets to shoot on the Lakers. Let’s not make a trade for the sake of making a trade. Rob is absolutely right to stay away from this trade.

If I was a Suns fan and Booker was benched I would be disappointed in Kerr but the fact that Tatum won a championship and has been all nba 1st team three years in a row and isn’t play 1 minute seems like Kerr made the right comment he felt like an “idiot” is accurate
So many things misstated in the Tatum defense.
1. It was a 26 pt game. Yes, but this was a tie game with Jokic on the floor. The Jokic Serbians are a genuine threat to this team. It was within reach midway through the fourth. Kerr wasn't going to give anyone a chance to make a silly comeback. And it would have been silly for Tatum and Haliburton to play three minutes in garbage time. Would not have changed any of this narrative anyway.
2. He says this team needs to play defense, then he can't seem to understand why Bam is on the floor. When Kerr says he needs spacing, he's talking about spacing around Bam and AD. Having the two bigs against Jokic is entirely defensible. Tatum is a great defender. But Bam and AD are defensive player of the year level big defenders. If a team wants a defensive identity, I'm choosing Bam and AD over Tatum every time in the big slots. And the question is Booker or Tatum. Who provides better spacing? You bring up how Embiid has been playing in the exhibitions but aren't interested in bringing up how bad Tatum has been in the exhibitions.
3. "He felt like an idiot" Surely you listened to the whole quote. Kerr gave a long cogent explanation. He would have said he felt like an idiot for sitting Booker too, I'm sure. It's crazy the level of talent that will be on the bench no matter what ten man rotation you play. He was NOT admitting he should play have played Tatum. I'm sure he feels quite comfortable with his choice other than public perception.
4. "Haliburton is not a good off ball shooter" Huh? Say you haven't watched a minute of the Pacers (or the Kings!) until the playoffs without saying it. Haliburton's EFG% spot up in 22-23 59.7%. Haliburton's spot up EFG% in 21-22 61.4%, in 20-21 60.7%. This year Tatum was 59.8%. Derrick White is 63% on a team where he is the fifth priority of the defense. Hali would shoot a ridiculous percentage on the Celtics or Team USA. When Hield was traded, Haliburton took over most of Hield's routes for off-ball movement shooting because he's the best movement shooter on the team (despite his injury!) What are you talking about? Why isn't Hali playing over White? Defense. Why isn't Tatum playing over Bam? Defense. Why isn't Hali playing over Booker? Defense. Why isn't Tatum playing over Booker? Shooting. Now none of this is obvious. The US would have been fine putting in Hali and Tatum over White and Booker (or Edwards). But it's also fine that Tatum and Hali sat. I think putting the ball in Hali's hands and running it down the opposing team's throats with the second unit might be the best option, especially as a change-up, but I don't think Kerr is an idiot for going the other way with it.
5. Booker was playing good defense. Booker getting a random stray for no reason. I don't remember Edwards being bad either but maybe I missed something. Sounds like a homer take though.

Disagree with Keith on Serbia not being one of the best teams. Jokic is in the middle of a 4/5 yr prime that has argument of best ever and is at worst top3-7 primes. Bogey played well enough last yr to be 6th man of the year. 2 other NBA players too. They were silver at Fiba without Joker! They have one of the best coaches in the world and play a good brand of team ball. Even this game in 31 mins Joker was +0 ON in 31 mins (20, 8, 5 and could of been 12-15 assists if they shot better from 3) with Serbia -26 in 9 mins off court.
They were horrid from 3 and US was 18-32. That’s not normal either way. U.S.A. should def win Gold, but Serbia is right there with Canada German France imo for other teams that could upset them and in one game setting with 3P variance it’s def not a lock especially in single elimination.

If it wasn't a Celtic would Keith even care this much? Every Olympic basketball team has always resulted in sacrifices of playing time. Years of experience have always trumped the younger players. Lebron and KD are on their way out and soon Tatum will get to be in Lebron and KD's shoes. Just like when Lebron, Wade and Melo got zero playing time when they were rookies of the USA team. They are winning so why criticize what Kerr is doing? Just because a Celtic isn't playing? Stop complaining about it. He should show humility that he at least got invited. Watch him pout in the years to come and not play.

Yeah give Tatum Bam playing time when Bam was the only one that actually did something with Joker. AD and Bam should both be playing the minutes they are giving. “Bam not making shots” he doesn't have to do that for this team when his defense and energy bring a lot to what they need. Not everyone needs to be a scorer that's why its great having Jrue, white and Bam on the team.

You don't have to a set 10 man rotation where two players will never see the court the whole Olympics. Each game presents a different strategy. Maybe next game Booker doesn't see the floor. But that doesn't mean he is ousted completely.

Tatum is the only American on first team all nba. He is also the best player on the current nba champions. Kerr is basically saying that he couldn’t trust Tatum to guard and score against whoever was matched up against White, Holiday, Booker or whoever in that 26 point blowout, so yeah, disrespectful. I saw tatums face, he didn’t look ok. If they were always going to do the best fit strategy then they should not have invited him and let him enjoy the short summer. I guarantee you he will have a big chip on his shoulder next season.
Wrong! Jaylen Brown is the best player for the Celtics and he didn't even make Team USA at all, so yeah, the chip on his shoulder should be significantly bigger than Tatum's.

Even though it’s incredibly unlikely I think if Beal took a 6th man role, he would be like Manu Gibobili, Jamal Crawford, Ray Allen. They would be so much better and they could get some defense in the starting lineup and balance stuff out. Him and Beal at the 2 and 3 are about to get COOKED.

Truth is - Tatum isn’t great at any one thing and that’s why he’s not playing. Not a great shooter, not a great driver or a great athlete, not a great ball handler or decision maker, not a great defender, etc. Tatum stands out at nothing.
Yet he gets paid the highest..If he's not good at anything, then the celtics made a bad business decision. Just because he didn't do well in practice? He could have stayed home and enjoyed his summer, but he didn't. If he was nothing, they would have not invited him. Players go thru slumps, including LBJ, KD and Curry boy!

Tatum is overrated - Jaylen Brown is better, so he should be on Team USA instead.
Tatum is rated by the players and media as an all nba 1st team three years in a row he and Brown who won the MVP of the ECF and Finals who outplayed Tatum should both be on team USA and play. Thankfully it will motivate Brown to play even harder next year which is hard to imagine. My question is people like you I am hoping will motivate Tatum to not take next season off which I am anticipating may happen. This may change things it may not.
