🌺অবশেষে প্রারম্ভ হয় বহু অপেক্ষিত সেই যুদ্ধ। শুভ-অশুভর, আলো-আঁধারের, দেবী-দানবের মহাযুদ্ধ। ব্রহ্মার বরের অপব্যবহারে, সকল দেবতাদের পরাস্ত করে, ত্রিলোক বিজয়ী মহিষাসুর স্বয়ংকে সর্বশক্তিমান স্থির করে বসে। যেহেতু মানব, দানব, অথবা দেবতা, যেকোনো পুরুষের পক্ষেই তাকে পরাজিত করা হয়ে ওঠে অসম্ভব। সেহেতু স্বয়ংকে অমর, অজেয় ভেবে, যুদ্ধে অবতীর্ণ হওয়ার এই ভুল, তার জীবনের অন্তিম ভুল সাব্যস্ত হয়। কারণ, এইবার রণক্ষেত্রে তার প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বী হিসেবে কোনো পুরুষ নয়, ছিলেন এক নারী। ছিলেন, স্বয়ং আদ্যাশক্তি মহামায়া।
নয় দিন, নয় রাত্রি ধরে চলতে থাকা এই যুদ্ধে, মহিষাসুর ক্ষণে-ক্ষণে নিজ রূপ পরিবর্তনের দ্বারা নানা কৌশল বিস্তার করে। প্রথমে সে অতীব হিংস্র মহিষ রূপে, দুরন্ত গতিতে, দেবী ও তাঁর বাহন সিংহরাজকে আক্রমণ করার উদ্দেশ্যে এগিয়ে আসলে, দেবী তাকে নাগপাশে বদ্ধ করেন। নাগপাশ হতে স্বয়ংকে মুক্ত করতে, মহিষাসুর সিংহ রূপ ধারণ করে, তবে দেবীর খড়গ দ্বারা সেই সিংহের শিরশ্ছেদন ঘটে। এইবার সেই মায়াবী এক নয়নবিমোহন সুদর্শন পুরুষ রূপে আত্মপ্রকাশ করতেই, দেবীর ধনুক হতে নিক্ষিপ্ত বাণে বিদ্ধ হয়ে সেই রূপেরও বিনাশ ঘটে। যার পশ্চাৎ ক্ষিপ্ত অসুররাজ এক বৃহত্তাকার হস্তীতে রূপান্তরিত হয়ে সহিংস ভাবে দেবীর দিকে এগিয়ে আসতেই, খড়গ দ্বারা দেবী সেই হস্তীর মস্তক হতে কাণ্ড ছেদন করেন। দিক-দিগন্তে রণবাদ্য তখনও নিনাদিত, মহিষাসুর পুনরায় হিংস্র মহিষ-রূপ ধারণ করে গর্জন করে ওঠে। দেবী তাকে আবারও নাগপাশে বদ্ধ করে, খড়গ দ্বারা তার শিরশ্ছেদ করেন। মহিষের নিথর দেহ হতে এইবার স্বয়ং মহিষাসুর নির্গত হলে, দেবী বজ্রগতিতে তার বুকে ত্রিশুল বিদ্ধ করে অসুর সংহার করেন। অবশেষে বেজে ওঠে জয়ডঙ্কা, উল্লাসিত দেবগণের মুখে মুখে ধ্বনিত হয় মহিষাঙ্গনিশুদিনী দেবী দুর্গার জয়গান।
নারীশক্তির অবমূল্যায়ন করা, ছিল মহিষাসুরের জীবনের সবচাইতে বড় ভুল। পুরুষত্বের দম্ভই হয়ে দাঁড়ায় তার পরাজয়ের সবচাইতে বড় কারণ। তাই তো আজও দেবী দুর্গার মাহাত্ম্য, সমাজের চোখে নারী জাগরণের এক অভূতপূর্ব দৃষ্টান্ত এঁকে দিয়ে যায়। শুধু তাই নয়, শুভশক্তির এই জয়গাথা আমাদের অন্যায়-অত্যাচারের বিরুদ্ধে রুখে দাঁড়াবার সাহস যোগান দেয়, এবং আমাদের নিজেদের অভ্যন্তরীণ ক্রোধ, লোভ, অহংকার এবং অজ্ঞতা-রুপি দানবগুলিকে পরাজিত করার ক্ষমতা সঞ্চার করে। 'মহিষাঙ্গনিশুদিনী' কেবল একটি পৌরাণিক কাহিনী নয়, বিশ্বে ধর্ম ও সম্প্রীতি বজায় রাখার জন্য, মনুষ্যজাতির উদ্দেশ্যে একটি বার্তা; যাকে বাঁচিয়ে রাখতে , বঙ্গ তথা ভারত, তথা বিশ্বের নানা প্রান্তে, বছর-বছর মহাসমারোহে দুর্গা পূজা পালিত হয়।

The long-awaited war finally began. The war of good and evil, of light and darkness, of divine power and demonic force. After defeating all the gods, Mahishasura considered himself as the supreme power in the three worlds. Since no man, demon or God could defeat him, he considered himself immortal and invincible. And this turned out to be the most fatal and final mistake of his life. Because this time his opponent was not a man, but a woman. She was the supreme Goddess Mahamaya herself.
In this war that lasted for nine days and nine nights, Mahishasura changed his forms and used several malicious tricks. At first he attacked Durga and her mount lion, in a ferocious buffalo form, but the goddess bound him with her snake-noose. So to free himself from the noose, Mahishasura took the form of a lion, but Durga severed his head with her sword. Then he appeared in a charming human form , but got pierced by her arrow. After that, the enraged demon king transformed himself into a huge mammoth and rushed towards the goddess, but she cut off his trunk with her sword. The war drums could still be heard, Mahishasura roared again in his fierce buffalo form. Durga bound him again with her snake-noose and severed his head with her sword. And then, as soon as Mahishasura emerged from the lifeless body of the buffalo, Durga pinned him down with her foot and pierced his chest with her trident. The victory conch was heard, and the gods rejoiced at the triumph of goddess Durga, who destroyed Mahishasura forever.
Underestimating a woman's capabilities was the biggest mistake of Mahishasura's life. The sense of male-superiority in him, was the main cause of his defeat. That is why even today, Goddess Durga stands as an unprecedented example of women empowerment. Not only that, her tale inspires us to stand against injustice and oppression, and also gives us the ability to defeat our own inner demons of anger, greed, ego and ignorance. 'Mahishanganinishudini' is not just a mythical epic, but a message for humanity to maintain peace and harmony in the world. And to keep that spirit alive, Durga Puja is celebrated with pomp every year, in Bengal, in India, and in various parts of the world.

One who played Ma Durga looks divine. Her eyes has that all knowing looks as Ma is 'trikaldarshi' amazing. The attire , minimal makeup brings a touh of realism. Was really tired wathing Ma having smoky eyes and all highlighted nose with exessive blush. Ma Durga entered a battle field she wont be having smoky eyes. But yall did wnderful. My eyes teared up. Now Mahishashura was played so aptly that I for one forgot it was Subhajit. Last but not the least whoever thought of about the hand ornaments of Ma needs a raise, in awe. A wonderful production. Far away from the stereotypes. Yet so superior for the art. And that too without deviating from the scriptures even slightest- it followed this segment of Chandi, line by line, in the exact sequence of events- Mahisashur picking up such beautiful props for each!!....also instead of reciting those exact sloaks of Chandi they choose to sing a stuti component for the choreography. BEAUTIFUL! ...even see when he prepares to charge as a buffalo! SO BEAUTIFUL!!!

As per the Storyline, Mahisasura was continuously trying to trick Goddess Durga, by manifesting in different shapes, firstly he assumed the form of a bull, a demonic man, a lion, a big snake, an elephant and then at last he even assumed the form of a buffalo, but couldn't deceive Mahamaaya, rather Goddess Durga fought with his every form and defeated him. At the end of the battle, Durga conquered over Mahishasura, by pierced through Mahisha's heart with the sharp trident of Goddess, with Mahisha's entire body smeared through his own blood oozing out from his chest and Goddess triumphantly standing over Mahisha's shoulder with her left feet and her right feet over her divine lion's back. The entire universe started chanting hymns in the ceremony of victory of the goddess. Thus, Goddess was titled "Mahisaramardini".
