Scotty can’t speak STEM, Or foreign languages never mind English. 15 million dollar dummy pretending turns wrenches. Only in the USA!
Really? I talked to the head of Chrysler division at the media events at the Chicago auto show and she was showing me the new Chrysler Airflow that's coming out next year.
The 30$ scan tool you suggested a few years ago has saved me on several occasions, last one was I didn't put gas cap on tight. Thanks for years of great advice.
What was the name of the scan tool?

90% of my mechanical knowledge came from owning a Jeep Wrangler. Some of it from installing mods/upgrades, but the majority of my knowledge came about 4 months after the warranty expired. Non-stop upkeep , repair, replace and upgrades. Half the time on lifted suspension, half the time on mechanical lifts for service repairs. Fairly easy to work on but endless money pit. Unless it never goes off-road, I wouldn’t know about that.
Same here! I bought a beat up TJ, and I was forced to learn automechanics. It used to be my daily driver, and had to call in sick a few times because it couldn't get me to work 😅
It might be a moneypit, but I love working on it. Also learned a great skill in the process.
It's now starting to pay dividends, as it's surprisingly cheap to insure my kids on.
I'm keeping it forever.
Toyota boys are driving slow, underpowered, boring, ugly looking, cheap interior, technologically backward cars because they are more reliable.
Makes for a happy Jeep owner .
@@icosthop9998 youre happy to be spending needless amounts of money on a fragile, unreliable vehicle? you jeep people are clowns lmao
I agree, endless money pit. Although, I was happy working on my Jeep and got into mechanics because of it 👍🏽
My first car was a 1954 Army Jeep. My second owned vehicle was a 22-year newer (but less reliable) 1976 Jeep CJ5. Today, if I had the money to buy a new Jeep Wrangler, I would buy a Toyota 4Runner.
“Rewired seven ways to Sunday here.”😂😂 Scotty
Hi Scotty, another great video. Thank you for sharing all your wisdom. Keep up the great work!
I used a heavily modified Wrangler for a daily drive about 3-4 weeks every year. In military... armored and bullet-proof... very heavy. I had to fill the tank 4-5 times a day.
I don’t have to worry about the modern Jeeps. I daily drive a 2003 jeep Tj rubicon with the 4.0L. It’s awesome!
Love mine, too.
JEEP= just empty each pocket 😂
That's great!
Could say that about any brand except Honda and Toyota
@@strangeclouds7 It depends on how you treat and maintain whatever you own.
@@rockinrob2004 Even then there are some brands that are definitely more reliable than others.
@@strangeclouds7 I agree 💯
The horn doesn't work? That's weird, cuz I always heard that jeeps really blow.
As soon as he said Jeep I didn't need to hear any more. Those 4 letters are the diagnostic code for "needs everything."
My boss’s daughter has a jeep wrangler. She calls him daily to let him know about the latest mechanical problem with the vehicle. If you love hanging around the mechanic shop, buy a jeep.

At least with the older jeeps, they were much simpler (less to go wrong / easier to repair). Now they put a lot of electronics/amenities in them to appeal to the masses. Off road vehicles should be simple... especially if you actually take them off road.

Jeep should speak Italian with all that spaghetti wiring...😃
What's common with the airbag, horn, and cruise? That plastic switch in the steering column. It allows you to turn the wheel with breaking wires.
Aka "Clock spring"
Scotty, the musical maestro of mechanics!
Scotti thank you for all your information and knowledge.
Can I ask: how are you hooking up that probe? And to identify bad fuse where are you sticking it?
On the back of the fuses while they're in their holes. One side has power. The other side is zero power, if that fuse is blown. [ □ □ ]
The miliage issue is likely related to the wheel speed sensors... along with the abs lights... common issue on those
I was thinking the same thing. Or Maybe the steering wheel sensor has a short or loose connection. I had a similar problem when mine and my only inkling of randomness was the non functioning horn. Remove the airbag and check the connections and see if something is loose or triggered.
That D8/D9 scan tool would also have worked, you just need to select North America as a region from the top menu. You were looking for Chrysler in the Asia region.
What is bad is the clockspring on the steering wheel 🎡
The question is what was done here with the electrical ? We're modifications unprofessionally done ? I would think taking it to a electrical auto mechanic and do a rewire . It's mostly labor maybe 10 hours and $1500 if he can drag a jeep to Moab he can afford to have it properly fixed
Or the wiring schematic in a repair manual.
When the transmission is manual, you easily know what is going on with it. And it will save on gas, too.
Similar symptoms between different makes. But look for a manual with the external slave cylinder. Easy to access. But bad bearings claimed my buddy's tC 2 trans. It chattered worse and worse. He wouldn't tell me how much it cost. I didn't press. But it was at least $4-5000
Not sure if you have tried just closing that door. Then the warning goes away and it might show the mileage.
Has anyone considered that the clockspring that the steering wheel mounts on could be bad, which is very common for dodge vehicles due to their suspect eurotrash origins? Fiat and Peugeot and Citroën, oh my.
I sold parts for VW and Audi and the failure rate for clocksprings is astounding. Once they fail, power is irrelevant, as they will not function properly regardless.
Just a thought.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the instrument cluster is bad. The main electronics module is embedded in it. My Jeep (2018 JKU) had a similar issue where voice activation didn't work. The tech at the dealer also pointed out that the seatbelt/key in ignition bell didn't chime. Once the cluster was replaced (luckily under warranty) everything worked fine.
What are your "best buy" OBD analytical tools for 2023? Is one better for Toyotas & Hondas?
Scotty, You said there are more fancier ones than iridium, What are they? Thank You. 💯👍👍.
There's a reason why used car lots are loaded with newer Jeeps😊 owners get rid of them because they're junk.
I speak French, and you're correct. It's referring to the configuration.
Hey scooty review the Ford falcon xr6
“It won’t stop speaking French” I lost it at this very moment Scotty
I was thinking Scotty when you were attempting to blow the horn and it was still in French language I had a thought if that horn would sound like the French police siren.
Scotty
I have a 2010 Toyota Corolla with 145k miles.
Suddenly my radio has gone out along with my clock and cig lighter. I changed the fuse, it keeps blowing. Took it to my mechanic friend at the dealership I work at and he can’t seem to figure it out.
What do you think???
Sounds great
Going to avoid this day whew
Question:
Best car for under $5000 in our near LA?
Seen a couple of your clips and learned alot already
There are some brands such as Jeep, Fiat, Garbage Motors, Land Rover etc....that it just amazes me how many people buy them.... Especially given their constant bottom of the list scores on reliability and customer satisfaction, and their topping the lists of frequency of recalls 🤷🤷🤷
Not everyone wants to drive a car designed in a wind tunnel. BMWs look Mercedes look like Audis look like Hondas look like Nisans look like Toyotas look like Mazdas look Hyundais.
Thanks for all your wonderful, Frank and honest advice and suggestions, Scotty.
How long would I wait till you cover my 95 Isuzu Pickup? Or my 97 Chrysler Sebring JXi Convertible?
Jeeze Scotty those wire connections are looser than your teeth... LOL 😆
Scotty, for Chrysler & some others, the doors have to be shut to cycle the menu. In Houston I learned what language is in Spanish (Idioma) so I cycle the menu till I see that.
I'd guess the roll connector for that combo of issues.
I was saying to myself, why isn't he closing the damn door? It even had a symbol showing the doors open. Guess he doesn't speak 'picture' either.
The "roll connector"? Splain...
@@trainman1209 It's the connection between steering wheel & column that allows everything to work, like airbags & horns. This allows for turning while keeping continuity. Relatively common prob on these, or most wrecked cars.
@@charlesdeblanc3386 similar to the horn ring? (Stays connected with spring pressure.)
@@trainman1209 Yes absolutely. For cars with steer wheel controls, they use a flat ribbon cable wound around the center a few times. This allows all the functions to work, regardless of the steering angle.
Saw your video on jeep great cheakee what do you think about the 3.0 turbo diesel?????????????
I think it is funny that he used the French word Voila, when he was happy he got it out of the French language to English.
Steering wheel controls don’t work because of the clock spring, it’s covered under a recall
Scotty just asking i need to get a handicapp van or truck would like to know your opinon a the right one
I can see why one would think that it is a rats nest, and it is, but maybe check the clock spring. I know it might not fix the odometer, but at least steering wheel functions should return to normal...
1:14 "maybe they could tell me which buttons to push to put it back at the ankletch"
-CC
Was it the clock spring? Jeep had a recall from 2011- 2016. Horn doesn't work , airbag light on, and electric controls won't work. Also the scan tool has to be on North America.
The steering controls and horn not having power means it needs a new *clock spring* set up. The old one is shot. Speaking from experience!
I can remember well, the time when they were a dime a dozen in junkyards. That's for showing us the odometer.
Having had Jeeps for years if you keep them stock they usually are good but for the 3.6 lifter tick.
The instrument cluster on my Hyundai just randomly changed to Korean once. 😆 It only lasted for one start/stop cycle and went back to English.
So, with a little over 31k miles on it and it's falling apart ? I know it is an off-road but if the commercials say it's off-road. I'll keep my CRV.
Scotty maybe a wiring diagram would be helpful for diagnostics? But who needs a horn off road 😅
Sometimes you have to alert animals!
IS it possible the previous owner also used it for offroading and just disabled the steering controls, and horn, so they didn't accidentally do anything while offroading? I wonder if the airbag is even "detached" as well? If that's the case, then it's probably not even road legal (cars with airbags have to have working airbags and a working horn to be road legal in most or all states).
My exact thoughts. Something behind the airbag is disconnected or shorted. Cluster could also have a poor connection. I don’t like Scotty’s approach here.. instead of trying to investigate everything, investigate where the issue is manifesting first.
Where can I get that scanner
In the first second of the video I just 😂 OF COURSE!
But the horn doesn't work either! That, in my opinion, must be fixed!
Scotty has a scan tool for every occasion.
Rude.
@andrewnevermind4902 why is it rude? Thin skinned?
Lol scotty could make another 50 grand selling all the crap he has in his garage that he never uses lol.
I'm very suspicious of the clock spring being the source of the controls, horn, and airbag not working.
I kept waiting for him to suggest that was the issue.
hey Scotty, what is your opinion about Opel Corsa 1.4 gsi petrol 2004 model? I am planning to buy. I live in India.
Opel vehicles haven't been sold in US, so it's hard for him
Alright. Thanks.
As a mailman, I concur. Drove a new 17 till 22 180,000 mi. My only regret was not buying the mopar lifetime warranty. It would've paid for itself the 2nd year.
I have a 2010 wrangler that's only been lightly driven for 4 years till 2014. It has been parked since, and now I'm going to dust if off and try to sell it..... what would you recommend fix wise... battery, oil change, tires.....? Would you take it to a dealership to fix or find a mechanic? Both I feel will overcharge.

That's true for every vehicle out there. Anything new is a nightmare.
Scotty, ALL manufacturers are going to small 4 cyl engine direct injected turbos. Even your prized Toyota! Time to adapt.
I wonder if yanking all the wiring and then installing a new harness would be harder or easier than troubleshooting the existing rats nest.
The best fix for this Jeep would be if one of those janky electrical mods shorted out and burned it to the ground
I live in Alaska and my 22 year old Tundra leaves all Jeeps in the dust PERIOD ! on road / off road , summer & winter, my Tundra slaughters all the overly expensive jeeps

Hi Scotty!
Hello!
That jeep wires is ridiculous for 30k miles
The issue is under the steering wheel.
I bet it needs a clock spring
No offense to Jeep lovers, but they're not for me. I can't keep up on the constant maintenance, I need a comfortable ride, I don't need off road capability, and better fuel economy. I'm disabled so yet another reason would be I couldn't get in anything lifted at all.
