    You have to key up & re-calibrate the needle EVERY time you change channels! Key up, calibrate (zero) the needle, then switch to swr while keyed up & repeat EVERY time you change channels.

    I actually tuned my sr-5k antenna and it wasn't difficult!! That was a first for me. Even though there were instructions, I went online and watched some CZcams videos to make sure I understood how to do it and it only took a few minutes. I didn't even have to shorten it. The magnetic roof mount seems very secure and the antenna has a good range

    Have used this product in the past and is the best antenna but now I turned to buy SR-A10. Easy to cut the whip to adjust SWR. The magnet is good for my use because it is in a jeep that does a lot of 4 wheeling.

    and as for swr, that is electrical rf energy 'Reflected' of the Standing Wave Ratio (swr). The wasted rf energy reflects back into the radio, straight to the final output xistors. (just like how 1 watt of pure distortion can destroy a 100 watt speaker (instantly)), a high swr with a loud/high modulated signal... will fry the final outputs very quickly. even on low power output.

      I had replaced my Wil 5000 with SR-A10 Antenna. it seems to be a huge improvement, from my Wilson 5000... Which really was pathetic with regards to receive on my Stryker 655

    antena ground. always check to make sure that the antenna has a Solid Positive Contact with the ground first. ive installed many. Sometimes ive had to remove paint.
    Ground is very important.
    this includes xmission cable also. dont forget.
    ive seen a few case where this simple overlook can cause much time waste and frustration to others.
    you should be able to get a 1.1-1.2. with that antenna. almost flat.
    unless theres a problem with the cable or ground. also another overlook can be as simple as the sections of this antenna not all screwed 'together' tightly, all the way. The connections on this model turn.... very tightly, and can still tighten. last thing could be a manufacture defect in the coil. rare but ive seen once. the plactic on the coil can crack also, which in turn allow moisture to seep in and cause problems. ive seen this more on lower quality antenas. cheaper, thinner wall/ thickness of the composite plastic around the coil. especially after a few years of weathering.

    Dont really need to care too much about the SWR reading.
    If your not using too much power (under200watts) a SWR reading under 2 is fine.
    A SWR of 1 wont allow you to hear anything that cant be heard at SWR of 2.
    It is well known that a SWR reading below 3 is fine,but if you can get it lower then OK.
    I used a Wilson 2000 with a Ranger 2970 dx unning 150watts without problems.
    Hope this helps.

    I have tried many times to get the s.w.r. down on mine , mine is in the center of my ford 150. Grounded two places . to me these antennas are junk. I put my Hustler antenna on the same mount. And the hustler s.w.r. is great.

    ********Stryker SR-A10 CB Antenna - Easy Installation*******
    Awesome mount. Coax is thick. Mount holds in 80 miles an hour winds plus highway speed. The antenna flexes when you hit a low hanging branch or something similar. The best part is that you can take the antenna off if you need to but you can leave the base right where it is.

    Didn't you adjust the height with the set screws before cutting? Most antennae will adjust well with the screw's and without cutting. Though I have to admit that I have only installed no load and based load antennae, but never installed a center-loaded antenna.

    You forgot to re-calibrate the SWR after each cut and/or adjustment in length of the whip.

  • @tangoseal1
    @tangoseal1 Před 11 lety

    Bolt cutters cut it like butter.. The whip is made of stainless steel hence its hardness is high.

    First of all, I am CB radio rookie, and the Stryker SR-A10 CB Antenna (Explore SR-A10 here: strykerradios.com/best-cb-antennas/) is my first antenna I have ever had. I hooked it up to a Stryker SR-955HPC, and from factory it worked fine, I bought the SWR meter that was said I needed and found the antenna was operating excellent so 5 stars, and I don't know why ppl are having problems if they are but my first experience was a good 1, Highly recommended.

  • @WPGinterceptor460Interceptor

    1:40 you have no idea what your swr is!! that's NOT how to check your swr Go to channel one.. put cb on CAL mode.. push the mic and calibrate the needle to where it says calibrate!, then let go of mic and switch radio to swr then push mic again.. that will give you swr reading!then do same thing on 40

  • @runningbear4666
    @runningbear4666 Před 7 lety

    I had the same thing happen with my Wilson 5000 magnet mount but I added a small radial ground plane made for it that lengthened the antenna

  • @andystylez
    @andystylez Před 9 lety +1

    If you want your cb to max its output power SWR's have to stay under 2 (1.2-1.5) when in chanel 1 and 40 if SWR' s are over 2.0 your cb is not using its max power and you will have a weak output signal and a poor recieving signal.

    Once I bought a Wilson 1000 too and now I don't have faith in it because it has some serious tunning issues with poor SWR, So I throw that garbage and bought Stryker SR-A10 great SWR 1:1 with outstanding voice even you are miles away.

  • @nathankohana39
    @nathankohana39 Před 6 lety +1

    I've used many of these over the years and they've all were waste of money for me.Then i got a suggestion from my colleague to choose an antenna from this link: strykerradios.com/best-cb-antennas/ I choose Stryker SR-A10 which is a classic antenna and it works beyond expectations. Great SWR 1:1 and power handling and it's nice to be able to take off the whip for secure storage when needed.

  • @cmj20002
    @cmj20002 Před 6 lety

    Don't keep the radio keyed while you change the channel. You will destroy the radios final. A quick key to check SWR is all you need, the longer you hold the transmit key down the hotter the transistor will get. Get some small bolt cutters to cut the stinger with.

    STOP spinning that channel selector so fast...Just test 1 and 40 and usually 19(actually middle of the band not 20)will be your best...Key up only for a few seconds at a time and let cool..Keepin it keyed up and spinning the selector is not doin a proper calibration..Cal/set/back to swr and test..Repeat for each channel....

    If we compare it with the Stryker SR-A10 CB Antenna, then there is no doubt in the stryker SR-A10's durability. because of its 10000 watts of power, Having 0.5 SWR, double wall coil cover, No water issues.
    You can easily check out the Stryker SR-A10 CB antenna here: strykerradios.com

      Well good or not It's still measuring the reflected back power. So if the needle stays on 1 to 1.5 it OK!
