    Mike Sterns is one of the most underrated genius guitarists on the planet. Really glad to see the respect shown by Andy here... and his impression was hilarious. Good to hear the Shawn Lane reference (RIP) as well.

    There are lots of instrumental guitarists; but not many I will listen to. Andy is a player I can listen to the entire CD all the way through. He’s head and shoulders above the rest. Technically. Stylistically Melodically. Etc. IMHO.

  • @bigdavedave9865
    @bigdavedave9865 Před 5 lety +1

    Andy is the master of everything. What he plays, what he doesn’t play. The speed, how long he holds the note, how long he waits until the next and his control. It all adds to the emotion of the music. The final thing is his tone... the wonderful tone... such a great player and so humble. When he said he is overly sensitive, I thought that’s a big piece of the puzzle there. He expresses this so well in his playing. Especially on the album ‘theme’ it is just so good 🙌👌

    Love EJ and his playing. He is correct about a lot of stuff that sounds crazy. One thing about the Chandler Tube Driver is: like many tube driven pedals, it runs at less than 1/10th the V that preamp tubes are designed for. That really limits the dynamic sensitivity so that it clips more abruptly and mushes out. The low pass filtering is such that it masks the wild grainy harmonics that would otherwise sound awful. The same sort of thing happens in a Fuzz face pedal because the input Z is so low. A Candian company called Tubesteader makes affordable high V tube driven pedals that are much more dynamically responsive. The new LIGHTKEEPER v2 is the most like a Tube Driver, but much more versatile, and for less money. The output is also high enough that it can be used as a dedicated preamp into a power amp or guitar amp FX return.

    What Andy's trying to say basically is that once you realize that music is so much more important than you, you start to function as a servant in the literal sense of the word. You serve a huge purpose and that is when you become a real musician.

    If you are feeling the tube pedals elevated on wooden stands is a bit extreme, take a look into the world of High end Audio. You've got guys spending serious money on stands to elevate speaker cables off the floor. One Audiophile noticed a drop in sound quality after he had a rug removed for cleaning. He realised it had been replaced differently to how it was before removal and the sound had been affected due to the carpet pile running in a different direction.

    • @56brever
      @56brever Před 3 lety

      Rearranging the rug changed the acoustics in the room. The physics of the cables did not.

      The question was put to DLR about how Van Halen got so good. His answer was that they put in the work. Basically, top-tier surgeons have over 10,000 hours of experience, and that’s what they had to do in order to make it and become the Mighty VH.
