- During the Second World War, there were many different people who fought against the German Army and attempted to resist. As Hitler launched Operation Barbarossa and invaded the Soviet Union, there were many different pockets of Partisan resistance that tried to defeat the Wehrmacht. Many of these were based in the Balkans, but those who resisted and fought the Germans were often dealt with very brutally, and there were a number of public executions that took place to put the people off rising up. But some of these were of Partisans who were rather young, and shockingly a number of young women were executed by the Germans.
Lepa Radic was just 17 when she was executed for being involved in rescuing injured Partisans, Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya was also executed in public for being involved in resistance activities. Zinaida Portnova and Masha Bruskina were also brutally killed for their work against the German Army, and the scenes of their executions were supposed to prevent further rebellion. However in death, many of the women despite being only very young managed to inspire many others to take up arms during the Second World War and to fight for their country and beliefs.

Most people will buckle under even light torture, because they don't know how far the torturers are willing to go. The only thing one knows is that it's not going to get any _better_ by refusing to co-operate - but it can get significantly worse. This is why most people cave as soon as the torture starts, or even before. The only way to withstand torture, when you don't know the torturer's limit, is to accept it all, including death. The fortitude of these exceptional girls is truly something to be admired.

To me the people who fought and died for the Nazis resistance are true heroes in my book! They were some of the bravest people and finest human beings I know of. I can only hope that I would have the same courage, sense of honor, and commitment to higher values in the face of an evil government like the Nazis.

This is an excellent history lesson I never knew existed. Thank you for producing the lives of these teenage girls who bravely fought the Nazis. This should be a lesson to us all to stand up and fight against the evil doers of this world no matter what! We may not have to do it like these teenage girls, there are other ways we can stand up and fight, and resist. For ex: I donate to the Ukrainian relief effort monthly as my way of fighting back against Putin and the Russian army. We can ALL fight back if we ban together fighting as one.

That's funny, because the german who fled to Sweden and the members of SS Viking said the opposite. On other hand, they were all on the eastern side in the Baltic states, Ukraine towards Stalingrad.
But that doesn't mean that the slaughter of the Serbs were in any way exaggerated, at least not according to my Serbian relatives thru my brother in law nor our western historian. The Serbs had both the muslims and the Croats who hunted them down with the help of their Nazi allies

WWII was a time when women fighting men was looked at with distain by German soldiers. To be killed by a man was expected, more honorable (if any killing can be deemed honorable). To be killed by a woman was considered demeaning. and woman who took up arms against men if caught suffered the conquences. I also condemn their execution's just trying to add the mindset of the time and perhaps give some additional insight.

They had friends in high places that helped them in the first place. They were well taken care of after the war other than the few. Many were given letters from their churches saying they were reformed people who had plenty to offer society. They had plenty of money to offer the church. I am not against church or religion but no church should ever be writing such letters and no such letters should have been enough.
Partisans also known as terrorists were not protected by the Geneva Convention, governed by Military law and if caught then termination was order of the day.
