Save 5 hours! How to replace antenna base Ford F-250 & F-350 2017-2022 without replacing cable.

- This video shows you how to replace the antenna base on your Ford Super Duty F-250 or F-350 or ven the F-450. The antenna base breaks over time. The metal antenna base flexes and fatigues when going through car washes and when the antenna is flopping around in the wind. Ford sells the antenna cable and base as one complete part for only about $22 but the dealer charges around $300 in labor because of the time involved in replacing the entire antenna cable. But that’s not necessary! You can simply detach the base from the antenna cable and install the new base, connecting the old cable onto the new base. It turns a two hour job into a ten minute job. You don’t have to disassemble your inner fender and reroute the antenna cable all the way into the dash area. Just disconnect and reinstall. Hope this helps. Here’s the part number you can buy at your Ford dealership.
Ford Part #HC3Z-18A984-A
Also here’s an Amazon link that works as of March 29, 2023 but it’s more than what I paid at the dealership ($32 vs. $22). I don’t earn any commission for the sales, just trying to help out.
Radio Antenna Base Mount & Cable for 2017-2018 Ford F-250 F-350 Super Duty #HC3Z-18A984-A a.co/d/3tc1VcW - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Well god bless america. This video just saved me 4 hours on a job I have been putting off for 2 months. Thanks!
Glad it helped!
Thank you! Just replaced in 15 minutes. I had given up with the dash removal but this is so much easier.
Awesome! Way easier for sure. Glad it helped.
The Ford dealership was going to charge me $280.00 to replace this bracket! I knew there had to be a video out there somewhere and there you were! Thanks so much!
That's awesome! The part is less than $30 and the whole repair should cost like $65 if Ford did it this way.
Kameron! Thank you for your time putting this video together on how to replace the antenna base on a Ford F-250. Got it done in about 15 min like you said. Greatly appreciate your help.
That's awesome! Glad it helped.
Thanks for this. I don’t think I would have replaced the whole thing or paid someone to do it but this got the radio working again in just a few minutes. I owe you a beer 😊
You're welcome! Nice work!
Took 15 minutes. Saved hundreds. You are THE MAN!!!!!
SUCCESS! Glad it helped!
Thanks for the video! Saved me time, money and frustration.
Fantastic video, Thanks, mine just broke going through the car wash. Glad I found this video.
Awesome! You're welcome!
Thanks a bunch just ordered everything definitely saving this video
Nice! Good luck with the fix. It's pretty straightforward and easy.
This is what I love about CZcams. Videos just like this. Thanks for taking the time to make it. Big help!
Glad it helped you out!
YOU are the man... i was looking at that base and wondering if i could remove the wire. thank you for showing me this!!
Glad it helped! I was super excited when I found out it separated. Got most of my Saturday back!
Wow! Thank you so much. A bird took mine off about 2 months ago and I've had the part sitting in my dash expecting to need half a day to do this job.
LOL. Same. I think I had the part sitting in my truck for a month before I dove in and started taking stuff apart. I got looking at the connector and thought, there’s got to be a better way to disconnect this instead of going into the dash. Tried twisting the connector with some needle nose pliers and presto. Saved my Saturday!
Thanks for this. Was quoted $500 at my dealer so I bought the part you showed last year but have been dreading getting thru the dash. I will be fixing mine tomorrow now!
Glad it helped. I waited a couple months with the part already purchased also. I was dreading routing the cable all the way. But then got looking at the new cable and decided to try to separate it. Worst case, I had to buy a new $25 part.
Just finished. 30 minutes. The shortcut worked perfectly.
Awesome! Glad you found it useful.
Thank you sir. Someone snatched the antenna and broke the screw off inside the base. I will be doing this tomorrow.
Fantastic video. Saved me so much time. Really didn’t think I was going to be able to fix the antenna myself after buying the part. Appreciate you uploading this how to video.
Excellent! Nice work fixing it yourself! These new trucks are complicated and its intimidating working on them.
Great video. Saved me from a lot of unnecessary work to rewire
Super glad it helped!
Dude, was just about to rip the out and get it done and thought I would check CZcams University, LOL!!! Thanks for the huge time savings!
Any time!
Great video. Thank you for your time, sir. You have just saved me a big headache.
Awesome! You’re welcome
Great help. It worked well. My antenna wire seemed a bit loose in the new base, so I squeezed it with my channell locks & made it very slightly oval for a tighter fit. Thanks for the great advise.
Super glad that helped!
Joe Biden inflation must have really cause parts to go up. Dealer sold me the base and wire for 45.00 but ur video saved me over 300.00. I was sick when it broke bc i simply forgot to remove my antenna. Thanks buddy!
Glad it helped out! Let’s go Brandon!
@2WheelKam Let's go Brandon...😎
Man, thank you so much! This was so much better than the difficult way!
Glad it helped
You just saved me a bunch of money! Thank you!
Glad it helped!
Looks identical to my 150 KR. Thanks for saving me a couple of hours!
Awesome! F150 mount is slightly different but the cable is the same concept. Glad it worked for that one too!
Thanks and Ditto all previous comments been putting this off for months. Saw your solution to a 4hr. job took 10min.
Thats Awesome! Glad it helped!
Worked like a charm. Thanks for the assistance 😊
So glad to help!
Mine broke off in the car wash. After watching your video, I replaced it in 10 mins just like you said. Thanks for posting.
So glad it helped! It really is an easy fix. Don’t know why Ford insists on guiding their techs to replace the entire cable all the way into the dash.
Thx a million man. This just happened to me and I bought a new cable and will do this tomorrow.
Excellent! Glad it helped!
Done, simple. Any dealership charging for the full cable install is wasting time and money. Literally a 15 minute job
Thank you for this video. I just had to replace my mount on a 2022 F250 with 8,400 miles on it.
Happy it helped! Bummer that happened!
Thanks for the how to Video. Car wash took mine off. Dealer had one in stock for $17. Quoted me $495 for the job (just had to check). After watching your video it probably took around 10-15 minutes to complete the entire job. Went off without a hitch. Thanks again.
Awesome work! Glad it helped.
Nailed it.. I did this in 15 min.. thank you
Awesome!
WOW, that will be a no brainer tomorrow. Thanks for the video. 😉😉
@@larryburkett9628 Excellent!
I have been putting this job off for a very long time. Can't thank you enough, I spent 15 minutes completing with your method.
That's awesome! Glad it helped!
Great video, I knew there had to be a quick trick to get to those screws. Thanks
You're welcome! Glad it saved you some time!
Thank You. This worked perfectly!!
Glad it helped!
Thanks for the instructions! You may have made my life easier.
Glad it helped!
Thank You, Been Dreading doing this. Now going outside to finish.
It's not too bad. Toughest part is getting over the fear of separating the cable from the base and making sure you've got a solid connection once you reconnect. Best of luck!
Saved my butt!!! Thank you!!!
You're welcome! Glad it helped!
Great video, saved me a ton of time. Thanks man!
Glad to hear it!
Thanks for your video! Saved a lot of time.
Glad it helped!
Mine broke in the car wash…I ordered the part and looked at it and thought no way am I installing this ! Your video saved me a big bill…I had no idea that base would come off that cable without breaking it ! Thanks
Glad it helped!
wife's got a platinum 2018 after years of auto washes hers is broke, been after me for months to fix it. Ill use this as a guide, thanks
It’s a pretty easy job. I wish they made the antenna base out of something other than pot metal. I really don’t know why Ford says that you have to replace the entire antenna. Mine works awesome since I fixed it and I’ve had no problems. Glad I took the shortcut. I also put a stubby antenna on instead of the long one. That might help it not break so easily in the future but just in case I’m going to unscrew it before any more auto washes.
thank goodness for this got it done in 20 mins thank yku
Super cool. Glad it helped
Thank you Kameron really appreciate it!
Any time!
Big thanks my man! Going to order one today.
Glad to help!
Great feedback. The antenna base broke last night as i was getting my truck washed. New car wash location that just opened. The workers stopped the machine and tried to twist my antenna off, but then gave me a thumbs up basically saying it was good. First roll and POP off went the antenna. The mgr there was very polite and said he would order me a new one and have it installed ASAP. Will see how long that takes. But this is good info to know. I'll share with him so they do not have to go the 2 hour route.
Very cool. Wish my car wash manager was that professional!
Thanks for the help!
No Prob! Saved my Saturday. Might as well pass it on and try to save others time and money!
You absolutely rock. Thanks
You're welcome!
worked like a champ! appreciate the video.
Glad that worked out!
Thank you for your video
You’re welcome.
Great info. I ended up splicing the co-ax cable together
Cool. Simple co-ax probably wasn't super difficult.
The end going into my broken base was so corroded it decided to stay in there and only the wire came out. Simple splice and greased the end before installing and ordered a short antenna.
@@medwards263 That's awesome. Thanks @Mark Edwards. That will be helpful to know for someone running into the same problem!
Great job!
Thanks! Hope it helped.
Thanks so much. A Big Help!
Awesome! Glad to hear it helped.
Thanks I was about to bust out the JB weld, but I think I will just buy a new base instead.
Yah, pretty easy fix to put the base on. Will be better than JB Weld for sure.
I appreciate the video.
👍🏼
Thank you have save alot of time and money
Glad it helped you out!
Great hack. The dealership didn't want to tell me that, but they did say it would be 600+ dollars. Won't be going to them for anything.
Yah the dealers should be embarrassed about charging that much. Ford used to engineer things to be easy to service and repair. Now, not so much.
This worked for me 👍
That's great! Glad to hear that.
Thanks, I purchased the part from the local Ford dealer the trick is lookup the part using their online part store then present them with the search results. I was able to purchase for the online price. Under $13 out the door. The typically charge $8 to $12 for shipping.
That’s a pro tip right there! Nice work!
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Thank you, sir!
You're welcome!
Thank you Sir.
No Problem!
Excellent video. Unfortunately, my antenna wire was frozen in the base and broke when I tried to remove it. Future reference, maybe I should have tried a little penetrating oil first. I couldn't find the Dorman part but, the entire antenna wire assembly was only $17.00 at the dealer. Looks like I'll be needing it. Thanks again.
Bummer that yours wouldn't separate without breaking! Great tip on the penetrating oil. That'll help someone else for sure.
Penetrate!!!!!
Sir I own a car wash in Massachusetts and this exact thing just happened to a very long standing customer and friend on his 2019 F250 … can’t thank you enough … thinking I might get that antenna base from Ford just so he isn’t concerned about the after market factor
Awesome. Glad it helped!
Thank you my brother
Glad it helped. We got better things to do than tracing wires back into the dash, right?!
Appreciate the share! Where didja get that kickin antenna?
I got it from the Ronin Factory. They still make them. It’s worked well with decent reception compared to an Amazon version I bought. Here’s a link to the one I bought.

I'm guessing quick quack car wash was the culprit? Thank for the video !
Yep. QQ took out my antenna and my rear cab gutter trim. Their brushes seem more aggressive than other car washes I've been too.
@@2WheelKam bring back gorilla wash 😩
Thank you!!
You're welcome! Glad to help.
Bro. You just saved my ass
Awesome!
The dealer would charge like 300 to change the antenna, job well done
Yes that’s what they told me too. Ain’t nobody got time for that.
Awesome
Great video. Just had my 2021 F150 in for service and had them look at the loose antenna. They said its broke, no warranty coverage and its $310 for parts and labor, said no thanks and now you have showed me how to repair it.
Awesome! Here is the part number for your antenna base.
Ford Part Number: ML3Z-18A984-A
If I were you I'd buy the part first (about $28) and then see if it separates. The F150 has a lot more room in the inner fender to change the part out. Check out this video that will give you a better idea of what to expect on an F150 (even though this truck is an 18 and the part is a little different, the routing is the same).
czcams.com/video/PK2TrVxfPKg/video.html
In the video you mentioned that Dorman has the base part without having to buy the whole cable. Do you have a link for that, I am not finding it online. Thanks.
I haven't been able to find a Dorman part number since COVID. I think they used to produce one but discontinued it when they encountered supply chain issues. Fortunately for us, the OEM part from Ford with the cable included is pretty cheap. Here's a link that will sell it for under $20.
www.tascaparts.com/oem-parts/ford-base-hc3z18a984a?origin=pla&gclid=CjwKCAjwsvujBhAXEiwA_UXnAGX6gLUsKL6QMb8aBttLIHaQ613dLC8HlywDmZcKkI3pYskRE0YucRoCDU8QAvD_BwE
Can’t wait to try on my ‘17. I noticed your replacement antenna. Does that work as good as the OEM?
It seems to work as well as the OEM in the area that I live in. But I don't live far from radio antennas and reception isn't a big problem. Even driving through more remote parts of Idaho and Utah I seem to always find some station to listen to.
Damn car wash got me to
Bummer!
Great video, do you have a link or a part number for the Dorman bracket? Can't find it on Amazon. Thanks
I can't find a good Dorman part available on Amazon either, but the OEM Ford part is cheap and easy enough to get. No need for Aftermarket. Here's a corrected link:
www.amazon.com/dp/B0BQ8G1F89?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_dp_ZF7Q7RKHA5D7KYPEPJQ6
FYI I've got no affiliation with the seller on Amazon and don't earn anything from someone buying there. Just trying to help.
@@2WheelKam Hey thanks for getting back to me. I went ahead and ordered from the dealer here in Alaska for 30 bucks. They quoted me $460 to replace it. I sure hope this process works out for me, or I'll just stick to the music that plays in my head lol.
@@user-dd1vd3ey4i Yep. Hope it goes well for you!
Did you put the rubber boot back on at the base of the antenna to fill the hole?
Mine had a small rubber boot built into the new antenna base that I bought and I just installed that as it came in the package. Then the whole base is covered by the plastic lower windshield cover so you don't see much of the rubber gasket on the base or the bottom of the antenna since its recessed below the plastic lower windshield cover.
Great video. Will you post a link to buy the base. I can’t find it anywhere. Thanks!
There was an amazon link already in the description in case you couldn't find it at your local Ford Dealer. Here that link is for easy reference:
www.amazon.com/dp/B08DTGM3TG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_XZ4HADKQ8AMPKM8G27GY
But I will tell you that it will most likely be cheaper at your local Ford Dealer by a couple bucks. Call your local Ford Dealer, ask for the parts department and have them look up this part #HC3Z-18A984-A. That might save you a few bucks compared to Amazon.
And to clarify, you can’t just buy a new antenna base. You have to buy the base with the new antenna wire. Then you can separate the base from the wire and replace just the base. Then throw the wire in the recycling bin
God damn, thanks man
Glad to help!
Can you provide the part number for the dorman part on Amazon?
Dorman stopped making their version sometime during covid. But the factory part is cheap enough already. Here is the link to the factory ford part available on amazon. www.amazon.com/dp/B0BQ8G1F89?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_dp_ZF7Q7RKHA5D7KYPEPJQ6 . But just FYI I bought mine from my local ford dealer and it was cheaper there. Like $23 if I remember correctly compared to $36 on Amazon.
im going to try this on my 2020 f-150 the plastic part broke and i bought the whole cable assembly but if i can avoid the whole taking apart half the truck part i will.
Very cool. Let us know how it works out. I know on the F150 you can access the antenna base pretty easily through the fender by taking off the inner fender guard.
yeah did not work out as easily as your video unfortunately.. had to use a second pair of eyes and remove the glove compartment and the wheel well and had to fish the cable through. was a pain in the ass actually. @@2WheelKam
That sucks. Sorry man. I know the F150 part is different. Was hoping it would work out the same.
@@2WheelKam yeah I managed to get it fortunately for a fraction of what the dealership would have charged
Do you think this trick will work on a 2015 f150?
F-150 is a little different and a different part number. On the F-150 you have to get down into the fender to get the base off or come up through the fender skirting on the inside of the wheel well to get the base off. I think the coax cable would separate the same though. You'd just have to try it and see. If not, I do know that the F-150 has more room to work with and is more open and easier to follow behind the glovebox to route the cable all the way through if you have to follow it all the way back. Here's a link for a decent but long video on how to replace the F150. czcams.com/video/PK2TrVxfPKg/video.html
Dude what watch are you wearing bro?
Its a Garmin Fenix 6 gps watch. I use it for biking and hiking.
Will this method work for 2018 raptor?
I don't think so. The F150 Raptor antenna is quite a bit different than the Super Duty antenna. The antenna base mounts on a much bigger bracket that mounts deeper in the fender area. You have to remove the inner fender liner to access it but once you do, you have better access to the wire on the F150 than on the Super Duty's. Here is a video showing that replacement.
czcams.com/video/dQM43En8AIs/video.html
If I were you I would order the antenna base or buy it from your dealer and then see if it can be separated from the wire. Worst case scenario it doesn't separate and you just have to replace it back behind the glove box like the video shows. Here's a link to the part that you need too.
www.oempartsquick.com/oem-parts/ford-antenna-base-gl3z18a984aa
I was gona reuse a antenna i guess not far to hard
Not difficult at all. Best of luck
What is the replacement link
www.amazon.com/dp/B08DTGM3TG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_XZ4HADKQ8AMPKM8G27GY
I replied with a link to the part available on Amazon, but I got mine at my local Ford dealer. They had it in stock and it was $5 cheaper than Amazon.
Would this work for a 2021 Ford Bronco??
Not exactly but it might be similar but with a different part number. It looks like a similar style on the Bronco compared to the Super Duty but the part number for the base and cable is different. If I were you I’d go buy the antenna base and cable and try to see if it separates. I’d bet a dollar that it does separate similar to the super duty antenna base and cable. Here’s the part number if you want to go buy one and see.
Antenna - Ford (M2DZ-18A984-A)
Worst case it doesn’t separate and you can either return it or fish it into the dash. I know on the F150 it’s easier to get the cable fished into the dash and doesn’t take 5 hours like on the super duty. More room in the fender wall and engine bay
That’s how I stumbled onto this. I bought the part and was going to do the 5 hour disassemble and full cable replacement but when I got started I was looking at the new cable and wondered if I could separate it or even just splice on a new head. Then I tried to separate it and it came apart super easy and I realized that the base was actually a female coax connection that the cable plugged into. Boom! saved 5 hours
Okay. Thanks for your help!! I picked one up. It looks really similar to the antenna base in your video. Fingers crossed it separates!!! Thanks for your time!!
It worked!!!! Thanks man!! Saved so much time and money!!
@@philolsen2672 Dude! That’s awesome! So glad it worked!
Lol over time my ass mine broke after 6000 miles
Yah that’s not much time to break one. Mine lasted about 90,000 miles cause I usually wash it in the self service bays, but one brush car wash took it right out!
Not that I can't afford to pay to have ford do it
But wow I'm so thankful to save that 300$ this was so easy
Thx bud firbthe video
You're welcome. It's the principal of it all, ya know!? Why make a repair that difficult if it doesn't have to be.
Nice vid, mine just busted off today at the car wash. Amazon has the cable, but they want 2x as much as parts dealers (35 bucks). I don't see the "Dorman" just-the-base part you refer to on Amazon.
Yes Dorman stopped making their version sometime during covid (after I made this video). But the factory part is cheap enough already. Here is the link to the factory ford part available on amazon. www.amazon.com/dp/B0BQ8G1F89?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_dp_ZF7Q7RKHA5D7KYPEPJQ6 .
