Can you please do a short video on top watering with pon. This is what I find the most challenging part of using this substrate. I have root rotted many of my hoyas due to either overwatering or under watering. Many thanks
Hey there! Thanks for watching and for the suggestion! I should definitely do one on watering. But just in case it helps, I will usually water hoyas when their leaves get a little bit softer than usual - this is true for both pon and soil 😊

The pon and moss are mixed together! I’d say it’s about 60% pon and 40% moss. Although I have begonia prop boxes with pure pon that also do well. It’s just that I’m lazy about watering so I added the moss 😂 Thank you so much for watching 🥰
I've recently also transferred my Thai to pon. Doing good so far 🤞 I have a Florida beauty variegata cutting in moss right now. Do you think I can transfer it directly into pon? Got the cutting in the mail a week ago and haven't checked out the roots yet, but leaf is looking very good. Any thoughts on the Florida beauty in pon? Thanks 😊
My florida beauty is absolutely thriving in pon! I would wait 2 weeks if you just got the cutting, just so if has more time to root and adjust. Then when you transfer it just make sure to give it high humidity and good light 💚
I water when the top of the pon looks dry or when the plant starts to show signs that it needs water (e.g. limp leaves). This is usually every 1-2 weeks. And yes I use nutrient water every time I water!

I’m so sorry to hear that! But if there’s new root growth that’s promising. I usually wait until I have 3-5 inches of root growth before transferring to pon. Make sure to use a small pot as to not drown the new root when you transfer. Also water immediately when you transfer from water to pon.
I just rooted it directly in moist pon as it kept rotting in water! I just watered it in a pot like normal, without letting it go too dry since it was still rooting.
Hello! Yes they’re just normal pots with drainage holes 😄 And I’ve had manjula and marble queen pothos in pon, they do just fine! I wouldn’t say they grow better in pon compared to leca or soil though. It seems to be the same in my experience 😊
I use the General Hydroponics Flora Series. That's three bottles! It comes with instructions about the ratio and stuff 😀 I don't do anything different for the anthuriums and just give them the standard mix.

@@DAjanapeterson The concentration may be a bit strong if it’s burning the leaves! But if you’re using a low concentration, the burning could be from too much light as well!
Help ! I have just bought 5L of DIY Pon for 5 Med (12cm) and 2Large (15cm) self watering pots. I have planted Dischia ovata, hoya carnosa, syngonium chocolate, aglaonema legacy & silver queen, Philo royal queen & lastly anthurium crystallium 2 weeks later after acclimatization. So I have a question, since it's self watering which is much needed, I poke my whole* finger into the substrate and its dry! I feel the capillary action is not happening as fast and good as leca? (The wick is entirely position flat down at the base). Compare to yours, you are using it as soil replacement, and water through say every 2 weeks or using a reservoir method? (I think a reservoir of big lava rocks below and top with PON and its wet through as its in a glass container)
If you’re using a wick, it should reach up to the middle of the pot. Place it in the substrate like a letter “U” with the ends dangling below to touch the reservoir. This way, the water can reach up the pot. You can also just fill the container up to 1/3 of the size with water, no need for a wick in that case. I can’t advise on how often to water if you’re adapting my method of using it as a soil replacement. I water about once a week and less often depending on the weather, but again that’s for my environment. It would be better to water based on whether the pon is dry or if the plant looks thirsty!

I think I will redo the wick position to be higher with a U shape to absorb the water up higher. Also beside adding nutricote, can I add say HB101 vitalizer which is organic? or Hydrogen peroxide once every 2 weeks? haha I have jacko liquid gold, kelp, fish emulsion, all which are organic and not suitable for a sterile environment. Lastly, do you think Tradescantia, like nanouk, sansevieria, dieffenbachia, caladium or alocasia will benefit much from Pon than Leca? I have a bunch of these queueing up to repot into self watering pots.
@@yangmarvin7826 I would stick with a full spectrum fertilizer meant for hydroponics, like the flora series. Out of all the plants you mentioned, the only things I haven’t tried in pon are caladiums. The rest do perfectly fine though!

I water about once a week! Pon dries out really fast so I would just wait for the first 1-2 inches to feel dry before watering 😀

Yes, I do! Sometimes I skip it if I’m too busy or am feeing unwell. But I would say 90% of the time I water with nutrients.
How about plants that are prone to pests and how to deal with them? Lol!
