    Cool shots and explanations of camera and flash settings. I see that you have your bounce card/catch light in use which would automatically zoom your flash to 14/20mm. Just curious, is that what your zoom setting is? Thanks 🙏

    Didn't easily see if question was previously asked... What determined wither or not you blurred subject face?

  • @thegirlwholeftthefridgeopen

    I havent been able to find an answer to this question but, I use an all manual flash from lightpix labs for the GR. The problem is that when I use the flash with ISO 100 at night, the screen is too dark to see anything because the screen isnt compensating for the flash. Is it because it isnt a ricoh brand flash. I still use the flash but just do point and shoot cause 28mm is wide enough to get the subject with that snap focus distance but it would be nice if there was a way for thr screen to brighten up to do flash photgraphy portraits at night with the GR iii. But still, another great video in the series!

    • @EYExplore
      @EYExplore Před 3 lety +4

      If you set your exposure fully manually and select settings that result in a dark image, then yes the screen will be dark. I was shooting with manual exposure settings as well, but I chose settings that allowed some ambient light in the camera and therefore I could see something on the screen.

  • @0Linerider0forever0

    If the guy in the video sees this comment I'd like to hear what his take on it is : I'm not sure I agree with the ethics of flashing an extremely bright light in peoples faces while they're doing their own thing. I have an astigmatism so lights like that are blinding for a short time. Also I think it's a bit disrespectful to do without asking. (But I'm new to this scene so I'd like to hear the other side)

    • @EYExplore
      @EYExplore Před 3 lety +13

      I didn't think of astigmatism to be honest, but I do know the flash is not as bright as it seems and I'm not using it right in people's face. I would say at the distance and power that I used it at, it's not much bright than car headlights looked at head on. With street photography the ethical questions are entirely up to you. If you think it's disrespectful, then don't do it! I don't believe it's disrespectful. Maybe it's a bit annoying, but so are a lot of things in life. I don't believe I'm hurting anyone by doing this (individuals with astigmatism aside). Basically, I follow the golden rule, and I just don't mind if people take my photo in a public place (flash or no) and I also don't expect privacy in a public place. Therefore, street photography is ethical, to me. But of course not everyone agrees.

      In this video he did it in Shibuya and totally ok. There are a lot of "flashing" lightning from the neon lights everywhere surrounding. People would never notice unless you put you camera in front of their nose.

    • @marckyokay
      @marckyokay Před 2 lety +3

      Exactly my thought... Same here about the astigmatism. I have been photographing places in Germany, NYC, LA, and my favorite place of them all, Tokyo. It is easy there, because people are much less hostile. But the mentality to avoid conflict of the Japanese has to be respected... I would not want to flash anyone in the face... dim flash or strong flash, doesn't matter. Do that in Berlin and someone might break your nose.
