Ray said when they submitted the demo to a record company, they told him Dave's guitar sounding like a barking dog and turned them away... But that was exactly the sound The Kinks wanted!
I remember the first time I heard this classic song on the radio, back in 1964. I was jumping around the house. The look on my parents faces was one of bewilderment. Needless to say The Kinks became my favorite band.
@@alfching2499 firstly while not at all a fan of punk- as a jazz musician- 1 Television was a very decent band. 2 my point was punk got their sound imo from the Kinks slitting their vox amp speakers , and getting a rather dirty sound from their guitars. ✌️
I remember this song vividly though I was only 8 years in '64 when this song first came out, I still remember when the British invasion started around that time with all time greats like The Stones, The Beatles, The Who, The Zombies to name a few and all the other great pioneers of rockin roll during that era. Hey, man, Densmore is such a sick drummer... he could drop his stick twenty times in one epic song like "The End" or "When the Music's Over" or "Celebration of the LIzard" and still keep it on pace, or at least save it. That's what made The Doors great, lol... but yeah, this is time for The Kinks and I would've condemned you for bringing up nearly any other band aside from The Doors on their page, so yeah, back to the music, babe.

I saw the kinks in the early 70's (or so) at the Melbourne Festival Hall (the 'house of stoush' as it was known as) and this song was (from memory) the show ending-song and it was played just as fast and friggin' loud! rickkuhn Looks like they didn't have a camera that would capture that angle. Maybe he figured he'd zoom in on Ray's guitar thinking most people wouldn't even know. Maybe he figured he should do SOMETHING, haha.

When you know it’s got a hold on you …
The band so good, Van Halen covered them twice
Three times. "Where Have All the Good Times Gone" is a Kinks original.

ray said my brother's got an amazing right hand. fact
hear there's a reunion brewing

@kazrules2007 doesn't surprise me, he is British

@aivopark the kinks weren't a punk band.. they had an almost excusively mod following.. wasn't anything to do with punk atall

Conor Davis Not quite. Studios demanded follow up singles, which were almost just a continuation of the first . The Kinks soon branched out .

@OneMannFamily typical....
Tempo is too fast on this version
Eric clapton great blues guitarist
but Dave super rock guitarist
what a load of rubbish I've seen them live and they were brilliant - far better than the Beatles or the Stones both of which I have also seen live
Well, John Lennon did say that, "The Kinks are the best band in the World!"
I reckon it's too rushed
yes, terrible, and Ray fakes playing
Ray spielt selten Gitarre in den Songs , offensichtlich war er an der Gitarre schlechter als Dave 😜
