This hits so close to home it's equal parts nostalgic, funny, and vaguely uncomfortable. The weird realization that at some point I forgot I was introduced to some form of hentai/h-games before I ever set foot into anime.
Ironically though, by stepping into anime through hentai you've already leaped past alot of the boundaries that normal people are confronted with when getting into anime. How sexual things are in anime, fanservice and the numerous fetishes/tropes involved are all non intrusive when you start with hentai.
For some reason, despite everyone being at least a bit pervy, when looking at anime they feel embarrassed by it despite how they've watched porn multiple times, but they feel like anine will get you in more trouble socially if its exposed. Sad to say that the " It'd be easier to explain if I called it porn" meme is how some people legitimately think about anime.

Oh my god, this was a trip down memory lane, these guys and I went through the exact thing. I am totally bonded to them now.

Man...visual novels is the biggest reason I'm learning japanese. It's not easy to translate all them words, and some of the visual novels out there that I wanna read are never gonna get translated. I sympathize with Joey and Garnt, the struggles from my 13 year old years finding visual novels on fakku to play, to where I am now. Still, even if it takes me 10 years, I'm learning this language, and I'm reading all these novels and no one is gonna stop me.
