I’m makin the transition from Audi to a f34 this week and honestly can’t wait. It’s looking way better than a lot of cars and the fact that a lot of people aren’t enjoying them is making that car much better. For a family guy who doesn’t like wagon, this car is the perfect choice 🤩
Congratulations on your new car! I own an E61 wagon as well, and they are two very different beasts. But the GT just ticks so many boxes. It truly is one of a kind!

Thank you for watching - and you’re welcome! I grew up with the metric system, so I know it having to convert the measurements can be frustrating! When the GTs first came out, I didn’t really “get” them, but over time, I have really come to appreciate how spacious and versatile they are! I love wagons too, but like you said, the GTs offer a nice solution in a less “boxy” format.
I had my reservations when my mechanic suggested it, as you know the GT does not have the street cred of its siblings. However once I took the car for a test and was very surprised. The comfort and space are a blessing in disguise and I am now an owner of the 320GT. I’ve had this 6 months and have no issues. When I got to upgrade I might even get another one as it ticks so many boxes and can’t see why I would buy a 5 series. Great car.
Congratulations on being a fellow GT owner! The amount of space this car has is really quite incredible. The 5-Series cars are great in their own right, but they can't compete with the spaciousness of the GTs. I have a 5-Series Wagon as well, and love it for its classic styling and slightly more luxurious cabin. But the legroom is much better in the GT.
I own a 320d gt with manual transmission. It’s been 3 years and not a single problem was detected(except tires, regular service and fuel) the fuel consumption also is amazing ( 4.3 in highway and around 7-8 in the city) its super comfy and spacious for a 6”4 like me. The outside is amazing with that spoiler on the back. It also offer an aggressive drive and feeling when you put it on sport. Less to say, my experience so far is amazing and it’s been a pleasure to drive this model
Looking at these in the used market, they have become a great used bargain and they tik a lot of boxes. Thanks for putting a spotlight on them. Very underrated unique car.
The response to this video has been extremely positive. I turns out GT owners generally LOVE their cars - and it's easy to see why. They truly are underrated bargains in today's market.
I own a 15' 335 gt. Its my first german car after having American. I can definitely say im not going back to american. As soon i did my first test i saw what all the hype was about. Its gives me the same amount of power of a V8 plus the peacticality. Its very quick, a sleeper, and the exhaust sounds amazing.
I owned the 2017 340i GT and it was a very fun car to drive. I certainly agree that it offers an unbelievable amount of interior space for a sedan. Driving and handling was amazing, but for a daily driving car especially in Canada, it got very iffy for me. 1) Frameless windows are a nightmare in the winter when they freeze, they can't lower half an inch and it felt like one day it was going to shatter. Sometimes the door would not even open because the window is frozen to the door. 2) Wheels are staggered which means the car leans slightly forwards. For small ground rubble it can clear it just fine, but any large ice rocks, large gravel rocks, deep potholes, and tall curbs, my poor front bumper received some battle scars. Making the road-trip super stressful rather than enjoying a relaxing long ride. 3) 0 personal compartment storage. Yes there's a ton of trunk space, but absolutely 0 small compartments for storing small belongings (wallet, keys, phone, cologne, etc) aside from your glove box, which for me at least I only keep ownership and insurance in. Middle console is so small it barely fits a single phone, it's pretty useless. I use it to store my keys and some coupons and that's about it. With nowhere to store small belongings I found the car always looking messy with my stuff in the cupholders and on the passenger seat. 4) Due to the stiffer suspension, the car is a bit more firm and you can feel a lot more of the bumps and uneven terrain when the roads start to get nasty. Like mentioned earlier, driving in cottage country as well as unfinished country side roads was a nightmare and very stressful due to the stiffer suspension and lower ground clearance vs an SUV. Hitting a pothole sounded horrific, and it felt like I was playing a video game dodging rubble on the road because I was not confident that the car would clear it. Many times where I had to pull over and examine my car for any damage from the road, whereas in all my other cars I was never in the slightest bit worried. 5) Wireless charging pad doesn't even fit smaller iPhones even without a case on. Making it very useless. Back to old school cords it was. 6) No touch screen? Seriously? My 2017 didn't come with touch screen but my older 2014 mazda 3 had touch screen. It was very awkward navigating car play with the dial, and I found it to actually be quite distracting while driving. Just something I never got used to. I ended up disabling carplay and using a USB cord instead while controlling my actual iPhone. Not very practical and handy, also not very safe either. 7) Limited rear visibility due to the middle rear seat head-rest. I usually took off the headrest so I can see through my rear mirror a lot better. 8) No rear windshield wiper = Cant's see in rain or snow. For a typical sedan this is common and not an issue at all as the small sloped window usually clears itself. But because the GT trunk window is so large, water tends to build up fast and easily and it doesn't clear up. On rainy days, I could barely see out the back window, and on snowy/icy days... I was SOL. Many times in the winter that I had to pull over and brush snow off the trunk widow because the snow from the roof of the car would slide down to the window and eventually build up to completely obstruct my view. For me, Safety and peace of mind always come first before style and looks. 9) Trunk space is nice and long but not very tall for storing larger items like bikes, tall boxes, or even stacking items on top of one another for weekend trips. There were a few other things that kind of annoyed me but were very minimal compared to the 9 things I have mentioned above. I had a lot of fun driving the car when I wasn't going anywhere off-grid, and also on nice sunny days. But for snowy winter days, as well as long and demanding road trips, I didn't enjoy the ride as much as I hoped I would, as much as I appreciated the hp. I switched out from the 2017 340i GT to a 2021 X3 30i. While I sacrificed on 70 hp, the 250hp engine in the X3 30i is still plentiful to get around and pass slower cars, also pretty fun to drive still. Definitely by far the most dynamic and fun SUV I've ever driven, with the most confidence on sharp turns vs any SUV I've ever been in. Never worried that the car will roll-over. Getting in and out of it is a breeze compared to the Gran Turismo, not too small and not too big like a pick up truck, feels like I'm walking straight into the car without lowering or raising myself. Winter time the doors open up no problem, and it drives and handles very confidently almost exactly like the 340i GT but probably a bit better. X3 you have a lovely rear windshield wiper, and the overall field of view is 10x better than the GT. Higher elevation, a more airy spacious cabin, better trunk space, large wireless charging pad, large touch screen infotainment system, wider cabin, much better ground clearance, and slightly better fuel economy at the cost of slightly less hp and driving fun. I have no regrets thus far. Im in my mid 20's with no kids and would never get back into a sports car like my buddies drive unless it was my summer car. The X3 is definitely the ultimate practical and comfortable/lazy driving machine. If you want sportiness and style over maximum practicality then you will be happy with the 3 series GT, but if you want the better peace of mind and practicality, the X3 wins. GT is still a fantastic car though, and to anyone who doesn't typically see nasty winters or nasty roads, this car may be a lot more practical for you than it is for others.
Most of your problems were likely due to 19" or 20" staggered tires on your car. My 2017 340xi GT m-sport has almost none of the problems as it has 18" identical tires on all 4 corners. The ride quality is very smooth. No wheel damage from numerous pot holes. The car is not canted forward, so rain water and snow are adequately drained, especially with window heating elements (which have to be turned on anyway for defrosting/drying outside mirrors, as the heating elements on the rear window and in the side mirrors are controlled by the same button). I haven't experienced frozen widows despite living in the snow belt, although that may have something to do with I usually drive my Jeep Gladiator pick-up when heavy snow is expected, due to the the state transportation department plough trucks usually push up a foot+ tall snow bank at the end of my driveway by the end of heavy snow fall day, so coming home after heavy snow fall usually needs something that has more than 8" ground clearance (even my previous SUV Acura MDX with 7.4" ground clearance got stuck outside unable to come home once). The GT's snow handling is great after I snow-blower away the usually 1-2ft heavy packed snow bank at the end of my driveway the next day (but the ice and snow on the GT may have melted as I clear the driveway entrance with snow blower, so I never experienced stuck window on the GT first-hand).
Since I am 2,03m/6,8 ft and have 2 children, there are not that many cars I can choose from. There's the Ford Mondeo, the VW Passat, the Volvo V70 and the Skoda Superb but thats about it (okay, must admit, an SUV might fit, but is just not my cup of tea). I wanted something else after a Passat and 4 Mondeo's. I have always loved BMW, drove a 118 many years ago (pre-kids-era) and was always interested in the 3-series (sedan and wagon), but it just doesn't have enough space. When I tried models with the sports-seats it was okay for me (the seats can tilt so my legs have some more room), but... no room between the front and backseats left for even the smallest passenger. A few years ago, I tried a 3 year old 3GT without any expectations and I was amazed! What a space, not just for the driver, but especially for the passenger. I bought the car and since that time I am hooked! Love the looks and the comfort and love the fact that there are not that many GT's on the road. It feels a bit more exclusive. Unfortunately, BMW stopped the production of the 3GT and the 'successor' 4 grand coupe just lacks the amount of space. I think my next car will be a younger 3GT and after that... We'll see..
What a great story! Thank you for sharing it. While I'm clearly not as tall as you, I can definitely relate to the struggle of finding things that fit. I think a newer GT would be a great option for your next car, but you could also look into any of the "L" models (longer wheelbase chassis) from BMW. Additionally, my Tesla Model S has a surprising amount of room in it as well. The trunk is also huge, the rear seats fold down, and you have the additional trunk ("trunk") up front. As far as storage capacity goes, I think the Tesla beats even my largest SUVs.
I got a 335GT. Great for road trips with ample space. Accelerates well and you dont see them very often. I think in 10-15 years, a well maintained one will be sought after by enthusiast.
I have not driven the 335GT, but the thought of the additional power almost makes me salivate! I think you're right in your prediction - the 3-series GTs will continue to be popular with enthusiasts - much like the BMW Wagons are very sought after!
I have a owned 2014 335i GT with the M sport package since it came out and love the drive, practicality and space in this car. It has taken us on many a road trip and it is really comfortable. I enjoy driving something different than everyone else , I did own a wagon but found this more practical. My son now drives it as well and it is going to be part of this family for a while.

Indeed a gem! 🥰 regarding the space, I fit in 2 sets of 18"" tyres (8 tyres) with seats folded down and still got space in the boot for lots of groceries.
My dad had a 2015 330d GT which was great for long trips, long distance commuting and very comfy. It was leased for 2 years, and we liked it so much we got a second in 2018, nearly identical spec, and is a great cruiser. Very underrated cars!

To be honest, I find the negative response to this vehicle very odd because it’s a gorgeous car. There are some great deals right now for Certified Pre Owned GT’s, fully loaded…and they’re just sitting on the car lots for months!?! Totally baffling, but no complaints here…I completely capitalized on this underrated BMW lol. man the GT is HUUUUUUUUUUGE when lining it up next to a std 3 series I've not driven any of the more modern BMW's (recently went to the darkside and switched to an RS4) but I did used to have an e46 M3 and was thoroughly impressed with how smooth and comfortable it felt. no rattles, plenty of power, really did tick all the boxes! Quite like your reviewing format, couple queues i thought seemed familiar to other youtubers! informative, enjoyable, certainly something id be interested in watching if i was on the market!

Hi, I am from the UK too. I agree with you this car is so overlooked. I too love this car so much I am now on my second one! I have an updated 2017 330d x drive M sport with adaptive suspension, adaptive led headlights, head up display & more. This has the 6 cylinder engine & is a seriously fast car! It’s such a comfortable long distance cruiser too. Purchased this at 3 years old at under half the new price. In the UK it’s cheaper to buy than the 3 series wagon second hand but you get so much more car for your money.

I had a 530g GT, and LOVED IT! Then I bought a 630d GT xDrive. Factory fresh! I added £15k of options to my 630d GT - including getting xDrive. I never ever want another car. IT IS UTTERLY SUBLIME. I decided to not get the Sport. So I have luscious thick, soft tyres, I can haul more stuff than my Toyota Landcruiser Prado. NOTHING ELSE LOOKS LIKE IT - My car is unique in most every car park, even the local BMW dealership carpark! It is an unbeatable car. Nothing comes close to the GTs. Glad you liked yours
The 6 GT is extremely rare over here. In fact, I think I've only ever seen one in person. It looks like an AWESOME machine and I congratulate you on the purchase. It could soon be rivaling the 3 GT for most underrated BMW bargain!
Bought one (2019, 330i xdrive) 2 weeks ago. Done 2.100km so far...and huh. Amazing. Really love the car, exclusive also as there are not as many on the road. Love the ground clereance, space and how calming and relaxing the ride can be.. but when want more, switch to sport mode and hit the gas. So far, so amazed.

Nice review. I own a 2018 340gt, and I still enjoy it any time I pop in after 5y (The B58 is one the best engines you can get. It can put a smile on your face even in a daily driver. Swap the run flat, and it becomes a perfect package). So far, nothing but regular maintenance with 0 issues. (only thrust arm brushings are known for wear and tear arround 50k, depending on where we drive, but that is true for most BMW that are not using M sport suspension)
I bought a 2014 335i GT xDrive M Sport package with 70k miles in Sept 2021. Coming from a 2004 M3, I wanted performance but something more family oriented, practicable & modern technology. I compared 2014-16 X3, X4, 335i and the 435i xDrive. To me the 3GT is most like the X4 or 435i but they were selling for $3-5k more. I also like adding a Sub box so not having a rear deck is a definite plus. Then you get a massive 5" more leg room in the rear. This car is so versatile, power, decent gas milage, family friendly, massive cargo room, and full manual mode with 8 gears is pretty fun! I also like that it is rare. I drove my M3 for 7 years and 37k miles and when insurance totaled it they gave me the same price I paid for it. To get a GT in Texas under 100k miles is tuff, there was only 3 listed after a month of looking, so I flew to Houston to buy it and drove it back to Dallas. The best part of the M Sport package is the 19" wheel and the leather steering wheel. I also wanted the all wheel drive for performance as I have driven one ( a Taurus SHO) power sliding thru turns and it was amazing fun and easy to control. I haven't tried that on my car yet because the tires are too new, but be sure when they are ready to be replaced I am gonna see if I can lite them up through some turns. I haven't finished researching it yet, but I have read this power train can be moded to 400hp.
We lusted after the M-Sport as well when we purchased our GT. Unfortunately, there weren't any available within the budget at that time, so we ended up with the Sport Line instead. Still very nice, but the lines of the M-Sport are even nicer. The 3 GT really checks of more boxes than almost any other car out there. They are just all-around great!
Hi.. I'm a owner of one of those.. Since 2015. And I don't wanna change for anything else... Ya.. Its not the beauty's from behind... But its amazing option for young families.. You can't imagine what I already transport on this car.. And you still have a BMW feeling on drive... 3GT forever..
The GT is indeed the perfect family vehicle for those who don’t want an SUV. You don’t like the rear? I actually think it’s very well rounded - and beautiful in its own way. The 3 is better looking than the 5 (IMHO).
my dealership gave me a 2014 325 gt to drive while my kia optima was getting a new clutch and I gotta say it's still one of my favorite cars I've ever driven

I currently have 11 cars, and only my Tesla S isn't from Europe. That's not to say there aren't great cars from other parts of the world. I did own a Toyota Supra MANY years ago, and I enjoyed that car as well. But mostly, my heart seems to beat harder for the Europeans.

You definitely can't go wrong with the GTs - they are amazing cars! I don't have any info specifically for the changes to the GTs in 2016, but 2016 was the year of the usual mid-cycle LCI update for the F30 3-Series as a whole. The LCI updates generally include minor cosmetic tweaks and a little bit of technology upgrades. You can read all about them here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_3_Series_(F30)#2015_Facelift_(LCI)
And so i own this car 8.5 years now. Today a major part failure - evaporator has broken, so air con is not working. This being the first major defective part needs to replace, and is very costly indeed. Other than that, both front and back brake pads have been replaced. Three years ago one ABS sensor failed, but was not expensive to replace. One battery changed before too.
hey! thanks for posting. i am looking at purchasing a used 2014 328i GT AWD. It has 80k miles and a warranty through 100k. Do you still have this car? Any issues once you got into the higher mileage? It looks EXACTLY like what I want, a fun hatchback with some room but not boring to drive. I actually don't drive super often but the extra room is important for me so a standard car doesn't really fit my needs. Also I live in an area that gets lots of snowy winters so AWD is a big plus. Thanks in advance!
We have close to 90k miles on our car now, and it has been close to flawless so far. However, I would always factor in the risk of things starting to break on higher mileage and aged cars. Nothing lasts forever…
i have a bmw 3gt luxury and im in love with it!!! its the perfect car if you want a piece of all you need.(practicality, sporty, spacious, family. etc)
I completely agree. The GTs are so overlooked, and it’s sad that they decided to stop production. I would be surprised if we see a somewhat similar car a little bit further down the road, when more of the models turn electrical.

The GT should be more popular because it is much more connected to the road than any SUV but serves a similar purpose. It handles better than any SUV and has plenty of storage room or back seat space.
Was given a 328i GT as a loan car when my POS x6m basically blew up. Remains one of the funnest, best all round cars I ever drove. It was black and I really liked the shape. A bit odd but would definitely have the car. Wish they kept making it
The shape and format really grows on you, the more time you spend with the car. It’s just a perfect package. Sorry to hear about your X6M. Did that have the dreaded N63 engine? I’ve had one of those blow up in my 650, and that’s not fun!

I own 2018 330i GT about a month now, comfortable and quiet ride. Coming from a Ford Mustang, BMW didn’t give the GT the same market appeal as the 3 series sedans. But their loss is my gain.....

Have a 2016 328i xdrive GT M-Sport. Awesome car, cargo is more convenient and holds more than my 2014 Volvo XC90 SUV. Would like a bit more power though. Mine is stock, but they can be tuned. Great bargain for the price! Highly recommend.
They definitely could use a little more power - but I think I feel that way about most cars I drive :) . The cargo space really is incredible - and very often overlooked, I think.
Bout the 320d and shipped to Jamaica. Wife loves it. Crossover and its unique. Think only 2 in the island. Black with red interior. Comfortable and has speed. The room space is the best

I just recently traded in my dated 07 e93 convertible 328i for a 2016 335xi GT with the M sport package and could not be happier. The days of trying to cram groceries, my large dog, or friends into the very limited and often uncomfortable space are finally over thanks to the interior design choice BMW made for the F34. Not to forget the 322whp and wtq the later version of the N55(B30O0) motor offers. The AW drivetrain combined with the power are a great combo for road trips all while getting competitive MPG and great handling despite the curb weight. I can't be bothered by the people who consider it a mom car due to the design, all I know is I'm the fastest mom car on the block lol

Hi - and Welcome! Congratulations on your purchase! Our 328 GT has been rock solid so far. I think we are up to around 80k miles now, and haven't had to do anything other than regular service. You should be able to enjoy many years (and kms) of great and trouble free driving!
The M-Sport package really suits this car nicely! We were actually looking at a silver M-Sport before purchasing this car, but it failed PPI pretty badly, so we ended up with the white Sport Line instead.
Have one myself , 2014, still going strong and love it for all the reasons you mentioned. I wish it could last me another 10 years without issues :) It has served me very well, through years with teenagers going to crew races with them . Love to drive it, has good pep in the twin turbo even though it’s a 4cyl engine. Versatility is awesome with the back opening up and seats folding flat and the built in tie down rails on the cargo floor. I wish the breaks had been a tad bit better for my driving but absolutely no complaints . Is it an m class ? No. But then that’s not in my budget. The GT is a great car I would buy it again in a heartbeat !!
@@jerrychew5081 knock on wood… so far not really no, due to just failure , perhaps besides anything that was done and covered under the first 4 year free service. But nothing has broken on it on its own. I had my fog light get hit by a rock and some one back into me damaging the front bumper parts with their trailer hitch. Had the front bumper assembly replaced .
@@gcanarpander1637 I own this car for 8.5 year. Unfortunately first major defect occurred was the air conditioning evaporator. It costs quite a lot to replace. My fog light was also hit by a rock and there is a crack, but it is still usable without problem for years.
That’s an excellent question. I actually don’t know the answer. Our model has the sports seats, but I assumed it was because it has the SportLine trim. I think I have had the sport seats in all of my BMWs, but they have also all either been M-Sports or had a Sports Package (back when that was a thing). If all GTs have the sport seats, that would definitely be yet another reason to pick a GT over a “regular” 3-Series!
We have been fortunate enough to have had zero issues with the car. It had around 42k miles when we purchased it, and it's now at a little over 80k miles.
I TOTALLY agree with the most underrated vehicle in BMW's line. I wish they would have made a M GT to match mercedes 63 gt... I might make a video on mine that is a 4 cylinder to try tune it to 380 -390 HP // 470 Torque with modifications to show what bmw left on the table! That cargo space with seats down is just (56.5 cubic feet) sneaky. This could have competed with Porsche Panamera in my book. Which is longer and less cargo space!!!
An M GT would have been awesome! If you tube yours, please do make a video. That would be super interesting! May I suggest a slight exhaust mod as well? 😊 56.5 cubic feet is pretty decent. For comparison, the X4 only has 50.5 with the seats down. The longer wheelbase for the GT definitely helps here as well, but the coupe shape obviously robs it if some space.
I own this car BMW 320 GT since 2014, it has been 10 full year, driven 110 k km. No major defect except one time air conditioner evaporator damaged and so got to replace a new one, quite costly, and done by BMW dealer. But recently there is transmission lagging problem when the car is at start and slow speed, transmission is not smooth and a bit of jerking. But at higher and normal speed, it is perfectly fine. BMW dealer advised to replace both the engine and transmission mount. But another mechanic said just replaces the transmission fluid and filter? Anyone out there may kindly advise what I should do? Other than this, the car is working like almost when I first day drove home 10 years ago.
So sorry to hear you’re having issues with your GT! I’m no mechanic, but I would recommend two things: 1) Find a mechanic that specializes in BMWs and is NOT the dealer. You’ll save huge amounts of money, and you’ll find that they often know much more about older BMWs than the dealers do. 2) Have the Transmission Fluid flush and change done. This is cheap and is a good first step. If it solves the issue, great. If it doesn’t, you’ve spent very little to rule out a common issue. Also, I believe this transmission is adaptive, meaning it gets used to your driving and creates shifting patterns based on this. And yes, I reset the transmission, which just took a few minutes, and the drive now is a lot more smoother. The jerking at low speed is now almost gone, though not perfecf yet. i own and drive this car since 2014, 7.5 years now. Your statements are pretty accurate, but i need to say one thing for you to consider - i always feel the base of vehicle is a bit light. 2 liters engine for 5 series but now for 3 series, is this a cause? Or just only my wrong feeling?
@@ENNARELL Two issues for the past 7.5 years worth to mention - 1. Gas pedal vibrated, but BMW managed to fix. 2. When started engine in the morning, it runs into stop, and need to restart again. But BMW managed to fix it. And now, the car is as good as in the day one when bought.

I wanted a sporty Car which is also family friendly and practical. Bought a 2016 335i GT xDrive with M-Sport Package. I really love this car! Already did 33k Kilometers on it and im still in love :D Great looks, lots of power, a lot of space and it sure is a looker in Estoril Blue with M-Sport :) I also think the GT's are massively underrated, just a perfect wagon/SUV/Limousine Hybrid.
Hi Mo, For us, the car has been ultra reliable. We've owned it for 3 years and almost 40k miles, and I don't remember it ever going to the shop for anything other than regular maintenance. Of course, YMMV. If you are looking to purchase one, I always recommend getting a car with a solid service history, and ALWAYS have a Pre Purchase Inspection done at a place that knows the kind of car well.
And remember. BMW's are rather high maintenence cars than low! Oils need to be changed at least between the intervalls. Gearbox oil around 65k miles. Life lasting oil is a myth!
If you want Mini based BMWs. Buy the FD versions. Those misfits with Mini platform and 1,5L PSA/Ford engine they call BMW. Discrase for them selves! GT got nothing that reminds of Mini.
Hi - This seems like a rather loaded statement? Have you had bad experiences with BMWs? For sure, they can cost money once they get up high in age and miles, but in my experience, no more than other comparable cars. And the build quality seems to be going up again. I currently have 6 BMWs and have owned several others before that, and overall, I find them to be fairly reliable and no more expensive to fix than other cars. Of course, you have to find a good and reliable 3rd party mechanic. If you have the work done at the BMW Dealerships, then the costs can add up quickly!
BMWs are high maintenece cars. If you look for a car that is low maintenence car, for gods sake don't buy a BMW. With bad luck it doesn't matter what manufacturer car you have, it's a bust. For this reason i like to say that "Too many people own a BMW that shouldn't".
I’m sorry to hear you have had issues with your 3-Series! Ours has been rock solid, but it sucks if yours has been problematic. What year and model is your 3? Did your timing chain guides wear out?
@@cadreamdrives i haven't had an issue because i wouldn't own one, if you know anything at all about these cars, then you know the 3 series is renowned for timing chain failures, and any mechanic worth his salt will tell you that these engines are totally unreliable, it's not a question of if, but when will the chains fail.
The problem is thst the chain tentioner works with oli pressure. There for idle and low rews are the enemy of the 2L engines. The engine is the enemy of it self because it is programmed low rev. But with 10k miles oil service and proper acceleration you dhould be fine. Some use the sport mode all the time to keep revd higher. Some change the tentioner in fore hand. Better engine than it's reputation.
I’m makin the transition from Audi to a f34 this week and honestly can’t wait. It’s looking way better than a lot of cars and the fact that a lot of people aren’t enjoying them is making that car much better. For a family guy who doesn’t like wagon, this car is the perfect choice 🤩
Congratulations on your new car! I own an E61 wagon as well, and they are two very different beasts. But the GT just ticks so many boxes. It truly is one of a kind!

When the GTs first came out, I didn’t really “get” them, but over time, I have really come to appreciate how spacious and versatile they are! I love wagons too, but like you said, the GTs offer a nice solution in a less “boxy” format.
I had my reservations when my mechanic suggested it, as you know the GT does not have the street cred of its siblings. However once I took the car for a test and was very surprised. The comfort and space are a blessing in disguise and I am now an owner of the 320GT. I’ve had this 6 months and have no issues. When I got to upgrade I might even get another one as it ticks so many boxes and can’t see why I would buy a 5 series. Great car.
Congratulations on being a fellow GT owner! The amount of space this car has is really quite incredible. The 5-Series cars are great in their own right, but they can't compete with the spaciousness of the GTs. I have a 5-Series Wagon as well, and love it for its classic styling and slightly more luxurious cabin. But the legroom is much better in the GT.
I own a 320d gt with manual transmission. It’s been 3 years and not a single problem was detected(except tires, regular service and fuel) the fuel consumption also is amazing ( 4.3 in highway and around 7-8 in the city) its super comfy and spacious for a 6”4 like me. The outside is amazing with that spoiler on the back. It also offer an aggressive drive and feeling when you put it on sport. Less to say, my experience so far is amazing and it’s been a pleasure to drive this model
Looking at these in the used market, they have become a great used bargain and they tik a lot of boxes. Thanks for putting a spotlight on them. Very underrated unique car.
The response to this video has been extremely positive. I turns out GT owners generally LOVE their cars - and it's easy to see why. They truly are underrated bargains in today's market.
I own a 15' 335 gt. Its my first german car after having American. I can definitely say im not going back to american. As soon i did my first test i saw what all the hype was about.
Its gives me the same amount of power of a V8 plus the peacticality. Its very quick, a sleeper, and the exhaust sounds amazing.
I owned the 2017 340i GT and it was a very fun car to drive. I certainly agree that it offers an unbelievable amount of interior space for a sedan. Driving and handling was amazing, but for a daily driving car especially in Canada, it got very iffy for me.
1) Frameless windows are a nightmare in the winter when they freeze, they can't lower half an inch and it felt like one day it was going to shatter. Sometimes the door would not even open because the window is frozen to the door.
2) Wheels are staggered which means the car leans slightly forwards. For small ground rubble it can clear it just fine, but any large ice rocks, large gravel rocks, deep potholes, and tall curbs, my poor front bumper received some battle scars. Making the road-trip super stressful rather than enjoying a relaxing long ride.
3) 0 personal compartment storage. Yes there's a ton of trunk space, but absolutely 0 small compartments for storing small belongings (wallet, keys, phone, cologne, etc) aside from your glove box, which for me at least I only keep ownership and insurance in. Middle console is so small it barely fits a single phone, it's pretty useless. I use it to store my keys and some coupons and that's about it. With nowhere to store small belongings I found the car always looking messy with my stuff in the cupholders and on the passenger seat.
4) Due to the stiffer suspension, the car is a bit more firm and you can feel a lot more of the bumps and uneven terrain when the roads start to get nasty. Like mentioned earlier, driving in cottage country as well as unfinished country side roads was a nightmare and very stressful due to the stiffer suspension and lower ground clearance vs an SUV. Hitting a pothole sounded horrific, and it felt like I was playing a video game dodging rubble on the road because I was not confident that the car would clear it. Many times where I had to pull over and examine my car for any damage from the road, whereas in all my other cars I was never in the slightest bit worried.
5) Wireless charging pad doesn't even fit smaller iPhones even without a case on. Making it very useless. Back to old school cords it was.
6) No touch screen? Seriously? My 2017 didn't come with touch screen but my older 2014 mazda 3 had touch screen. It was very awkward navigating car play with the dial, and I found it to actually be quite distracting while driving. Just something I never got used to. I ended up disabling carplay and using a USB cord instead while controlling my actual iPhone. Not very practical and handy, also not very safe either.
7) Limited rear visibility due to the middle rear seat head-rest. I usually took off the headrest so I can see through my rear mirror a lot better.
8) No rear windshield wiper = Cant's see in rain or snow. For a typical sedan this is common and not an issue at all as the small sloped window usually clears itself. But because the GT trunk window is so large, water tends to build up fast and easily and it doesn't clear up. On rainy days, I could barely see out the back window, and on snowy/icy days... I was SOL. Many times in the winter that I had to pull over and brush snow off the trunk widow because the snow from the roof of the car would slide down to the window and eventually build up to completely obstruct my view. For me, Safety and peace of mind always come first before style and looks.
9) Trunk space is nice and long but not very tall for storing larger items like bikes, tall boxes, or even stacking items on top of one another for weekend trips.
There were a few other things that kind of annoyed me but were very minimal compared to the 9 things I have mentioned above. I had a lot of fun driving the car when I wasn't going anywhere off-grid, and also on nice sunny days. But for snowy winter days, as well as long and demanding road trips, I didn't enjoy the ride as much as I hoped I would, as much as I appreciated the hp.
I switched out from the 2017 340i GT to a 2021 X3 30i. While I sacrificed on 70 hp, the 250hp engine in the X3 30i is still plentiful to get around and pass slower cars, also pretty fun to drive still. Definitely by far the most dynamic and fun SUV I've ever driven, with the most confidence on sharp turns vs any SUV I've ever been in. Never worried that the car will roll-over. Getting in and out of it is a breeze compared to the Gran Turismo, not too small and not too big like a pick up truck, feels like I'm walking straight into the car without lowering or raising myself. Winter time the doors open up no problem, and it drives and handles very confidently almost exactly like the 340i GT but probably a bit better. X3 you have a lovely rear windshield wiper, and the overall field of view is 10x better than the GT. Higher elevation, a more airy spacious cabin, better trunk space, large wireless charging pad, large touch screen infotainment system, wider cabin, much better ground clearance, and slightly better fuel economy at the cost of slightly less hp and driving fun. I have no regrets thus far. Im in my mid 20's with no kids and would never get back into a sports car like my buddies drive unless it was my summer car. The X3 is definitely the ultimate practical and comfortable/lazy driving machine. If you want sportiness and style over maximum practicality then you will be happy with the 3 series GT, but if you want the better peace of mind and practicality, the X3 wins.
GT is still a fantastic car though, and to anyone who doesn't typically see nasty winters or nasty roads, this car may be a lot more practical for you than it is for others.

Most of your problems were likely due to 19" or 20" staggered tires on your car. My 2017 340xi GT m-sport has almost none of the problems as it has 18" identical tires on all 4 corners. The ride quality is very smooth. No wheel damage from numerous pot holes. The car is not canted forward, so rain water and snow are adequately drained, especially with window heating elements (which have to be turned on anyway for defrosting/drying outside mirrors, as the heating elements on the rear window and in the side mirrors are controlled by the same button). I haven't experienced frozen widows despite living in the snow belt, although that may have something to do with I usually drive my Jeep Gladiator pick-up when heavy snow is expected, due to the the state transportation department plough trucks usually push up a foot+ tall snow bank at the end of my driveway by the end of heavy snow fall day, so coming home after heavy snow fall usually needs something that has more than 8" ground clearance (even my previous SUV Acura MDX with 7.4" ground clearance got stuck outside unable to come home once). The GT's snow handling is great after I snow-blower away the usually 1-2ft heavy packed snow bank at the end of my driveway the next day (but the ice and snow on the GT may have melted as I clear the driveway entrance with snow blower, so I never experienced stuck window on the GT first-hand).
Since I am 2,03m/6,8 ft and have 2 children, there are not that many cars I can choose from. There's the Ford Mondeo, the VW Passat, the Volvo V70 and the Skoda Superb but thats about it (okay, must admit, an SUV might fit, but is just not my cup of tea). I wanted something else after a Passat and 4 Mondeo's. I have always loved BMW, drove a 118 many years ago (pre-kids-era) and was always interested in the 3-series (sedan and wagon), but it just doesn't have enough space. When I tried models with the sports-seats it was okay for me (the seats can tilt so my legs have some more room), but... no room between the front and backseats left for even the smallest passenger. A few years ago, I tried a 3 year old 3GT without any expectations and I was amazed! What a space, not just for the driver, but especially for the passenger. I bought the car and since that time I am hooked! Love the looks and the comfort and love the fact that there are not that many GT's on the road. It feels a bit more exclusive. Unfortunately, BMW stopped the production of the 3GT and the 'successor' 4 grand coupe just lacks the amount of space. I think my next car will be a younger 3GT and after that... We'll see..
What a great story! Thank you for sharing it. While I'm clearly not as tall as you, I can definitely relate to the struggle of finding things that fit. I think a newer GT would be a great option for your next car, but you could also look into any of the "L" models (longer wheelbase chassis) from BMW. Additionally, my Tesla Model S has a surprising amount of room in it as well. The trunk is also huge, the rear seats fold down, and you have the additional trunk ("trunk") up front. As far as storage capacity goes, I think the Tesla beats even my largest SUVs.
I got a 335GT. Great for road trips with ample space. Accelerates well and you dont see them very often. I think in 10-15 years, a well maintained one will be sought after by enthusiast.
I have not driven the 335GT, but the thought of the additional power almost makes me salivate! I think you're right in your prediction - the 3-series GTs will continue to be popular with enthusiasts - much like the BMW Wagons are very sought after!
I have a owned 2014 335i GT with the M sport package since it came out and love the drive, practicality and space in this car. It has taken us on many a road trip and it is really comfortable.
I enjoy driving something different than everyone else , I did own a wagon but found this more practical. My son now drives it as well and it is going to be part of this family for a while.

My dad had a 2015 330d GT which was great for long trips, long distance commuting and very comfy. It was leased for 2 years, and we liked it so much we got a second in 2018, nearly identical spec, and is a great cruiser. Very underrated cars!

I've not driven any of the more modern BMW's (recently went to the darkside and switched to an RS4) but I did used to have an e46 M3 and was thoroughly impressed with how smooth and comfortable it felt. no rattles, plenty of power, really did tick all the boxes!

This has the 6 cylinder engine & is a seriously fast car! It’s such a comfortable long distance cruiser too. Purchased this at 3 years old at under half the new price. In the UK it’s cheaper to buy than the 3 series wagon second hand but you get so much more car for your money.

I had a 530g GT, and LOVED IT! Then I bought a 630d GT xDrive. Factory fresh! I added £15k of options to my 630d GT - including getting xDrive. I never ever want another car. IT IS UTTERLY SUBLIME. I decided to not get the Sport. So I have luscious thick, soft tyres, I can haul more stuff than my Toyota Landcruiser Prado.
NOTHING ELSE LOOKS LIKE IT - My car is unique in most every car park, even the local BMW dealership carpark!

Bought one (2019, 330i xdrive) 2 weeks ago. Done 2.100km so far...and huh. Amazing. Really love the car, exclusive also as there are not as many on the road. Love the ground clereance, space and how calming and relaxing the ride can be.. but when want more, switch to sport mode and hit the gas. So far, so amazed.

Nice review. I own a 2018 340gt, and I still enjoy it any time I pop in after 5y (The B58 is one the best engines you can get. It can put a smile on your face even in a daily driver. Swap the run flat, and it becomes a perfect package). So far, nothing but regular maintenance with 0 issues. (only thrust arm brushings are known for wear and tear arround 50k, depending on where we drive, but that is true for most BMW that are not using M sport suspension)

I bought a 2014 335i GT xDrive M Sport package with 70k miles in Sept 2021. Coming from a 2004 M3, I wanted performance but something more family oriented, practicable & modern technology. I compared 2014-16 X3, X4, 335i and the 435i xDrive. To me the 3GT is most like the X4 or 435i but they were selling for $3-5k more. I also like adding a Sub box so not having a rear deck is a definite plus. Then you get a massive 5" more leg room in the rear. This car is so versatile, power, decent gas milage, family friendly, massive cargo room, and full manual mode with 8 gears is pretty fun! I also like that it is rare. I drove my M3 for 7 years and 37k miles and when insurance totaled it they gave me the same price I paid for it. To get a GT in Texas under 100k miles is tuff, there was only 3 listed after a month of looking, so I flew to Houston to buy it and drove it back to Dallas. The best part of the M Sport package is the 19" wheel and the leather steering wheel. I also wanted the all wheel drive for performance as I have driven one ( a Taurus SHO) power sliding thru turns and it was amazing fun and easy to control. I haven't tried that on my car yet because the tires are too new, but be sure when they are ready to be replaced I am gonna see if I can lite them up through some turns. I haven't finished researching it yet, but I have read this power train can be moded to 400hp.
We lusted after the M-Sport as well when we purchased our GT. Unfortunately, there weren't any available within the budget at that time, so we ended up with the Sport Line instead. Still very nice, but the lines of the M-Sport are even nicer. The 3 GT really checks of more boxes than almost any other car out there. They are just all-around great!

I tend to make videos about cars I like (or think I will like), and I've always gravitated towards European cars. I currently have 11 cars, and only my Tesla S isn't from Europe. That's not to say there aren't great cars from other parts of the world. I did own a Toyota Supra MANY years ago, and I enjoyed that car as well. But mostly, my heart seems to beat harder for the Europeans.

You definitely can't go wrong with the GTs - they are amazing cars!
I don't have any info specifically for the changes to the GTs in 2016, but 2016 was the year of the usual mid-cycle LCI update for the F30 3-Series as a whole. And so i own this car 8.5 years now. Today a major part failure - evaporator has broken, so air con is not working. This being the first major defective part needs to replace, and is very costly indeed. Other than that, both front and back brake pads have been replaced. Three years ago one ABS sensor failed, but was not expensive to replace. One battery changed before too.
hey! thanks for posting. i am looking at purchasing a used 2014 328i GT AWD. It has 80k miles and a warranty through 100k. Do you still have this car? Any issues once you got into the higher mileage? It looks EXACTLY like what I want, a fun hatchback with some room but not boring to drive. I actually don't drive super often but the extra room is important for me so a standard car doesn't really fit my needs. Also I live in an area that gets lots of snowy winters so AWD is a big plus. Thanks in advance!
We have close to 90k miles on our car now, and it has been close to flawless so far.
However, I would always factor in the risk of things starting to break on higher mileage and aged cars. Nothing lasts forever…

I completely agree. The GTs are so overlooked, and it’s sad that they decided to stop production. I would be surprised if we see a somewhat similar car a little bit further down the road, when more of the models turn electrical.

The GT should be more popular because it is much more connected to the road than any SUV but serves a similar purpose. It handles better than any SUV and has plenty of storage room or back seat space.
I completely agree. The GT has always been overlooked. Most everyone thinks it's a great car and a great idea, when they learn what it is!

Was given a 328i GT as a loan car when my POS x6m basically blew up. Remains one of the funnest, best all round cars I ever drove. It was black and I really liked the shape. A bit odd but would definitely have the car. Wish they kept making it
Australia also got the 320 diesel GT which had amazing fuel economy and a lot of low end power. Amazing car
The shape and format really grows on you, the more time you spend with the car. It’s just a perfect package.

I own 2018 330i GT about a month now, comfortable and quiet ride. Coming from a Ford Mustang, BMW didn’t give the GT the same market appeal as the 3 series sedans. But their loss is my gain.....

What suprised me when i got my F34 was that it was significantly longer and wider than my land cruiser prado.
Have a 2016 328i xdrive GT M-Sport. Awesome car, cargo is more convenient and holds more than my 2014 Volvo XC90 SUV. Would like a bit more power though. Mine is stock, but they can be tuned. Great bargain for the price! Highly recommend.
They definitely could use a little more power - but I think I feel that way about most cars I drive :) . The cargo space really is incredible - and very often overlooked, I think.

Bout the 320d and shipped to Jamaica. Wife loves it. Crossover and its unique. Think only 2 in the island. Black with red interior. Comfortable and has speed. The room space is the best

I just recently traded in my dated 07 e93 convertible 328i for a 2016 335xi GT with the M sport package and could not be happier. The days of trying to cram groceries, my large dog, or friends into the very limited and often uncomfortable space are finally over thanks to the interior design choice BMW made for the F34. Not to forget the 322whp and wtq the later version of the N55(B30O0) motor offers. The AW drivetrain combined with the power are a great combo for road trips all while getting competitive MPG and great handling despite the curb weight. I can't be bothered by the people who consider it a mom car due to the design, all I know is I'm the fastest mom car on the block lol

Hi - and Welcome! Congratulations on your purchase! Our 328 GT has been rock solid so far. I think we are up to around 80k miles now, and haven't had to do anything other than regular service. You should be able to enjoy many years (and kms) of great and trouble free driving!

Less than 50k miles is great! Ours has been bulletproof with now over 80k miles on it, so there is definitely longevity in the GTs as well!

I just bought a 320d GT in UK averaging 50-60 mpg no problem comfortable and carries huge amount of cargo, and looks cool

The M-Sport package really suits this car nicely! We were actually looking at a silver M-Sport before purchasing this car, but it failed PPI pretty badly, so we ended up with the white Sport Line instead.

Have one myself , 2014, still going strong and love it for all the reasons you mentioned. I wish it could last me another 10 years without issues :) It has served me very well, through years with teenagers going to crew races with them . Love to drive it, has good pep in the twin turbo even though it’s a 4cyl engine. Versatility is awesome with the back opening up and seats folding flat and the built in tie down rails on the cargo floor.
I wish the breaks had been a tad bit better for my driving but absolutely no complaints . Is it an m class ? No. But then that’s not in my budget. The GT is a great car I would buy it again in a heartbeat !!

@@jerrychew5081 knock on wood… so far not really no, due to just failure , perhaps besides anything that was done and covered under the first 4 year free service. But nothing has broken on it on its own. I had my fog light get hit by a rock and some one back into me damaging the front bumper parts with their trailer hitch. Had the front bumper assembly replaced .

No twin turbo in 4-cyl. It's twin power single turbo. But yes, very comgusing for many.

I'm pretty sure you have to look for 335/340 if you want I6 engine. Last time 28 was with I6 was in -11 or -12.
This car is great to drive , its more comfy the the normal 3 , i chose the wagon but i also like this model

That’s an excellent question. I actually don’t know the answer. Our model has the sports seats, but I assumed it was because it has the SportLine trim. I think I have had the sport seats in all of my BMWs, but they have also all either been M-Sports or had a Sports Package (back when that was a thing).
If all GTs have the sport seats, that would definitely be yet another reason to pick a GT over a “regular” 3-Series!
At least sport seats are the same with 3/4-series. Not 5er.

We have been fortunate enough to have had zero issues with the car. It had around 42k miles when we purchased it, and it's now at a little over 80k miles.

For us, it has been ultra reliable. I don’t think we have had a single issue in the 5 years we have owned the car and it’s at around 85k miles now.
I TOTALLY agree with the most underrated vehicle in BMW's line. I wish they would have made a M GT to match mercedes 63 gt... I might make a video on mine that is a 4 cylinder to try tune it to 380 -390 HP // 470 Torque with modifications to show what bmw left on the table! That cargo space with seats down is just (56.5 cubic feet) sneaky. This could have competed with Porsche Panamera in my book. Which is longer and less cargo space!!!

56.5 cubic feet is pretty decent. For comparison, the X4 only has 50.5 with the seats down. The longer wheelbase for the GT definitely helps here as well, but the coupe shape obviously robs it if some space.
I own this car BMW 320 GT since 2014, it has been 10 full year, driven 110 k km. No major defect except one time air conditioner evaporator damaged and so got to replace a new one, quite costly, and done by BMW dealer. But recently there is transmission lagging problem when the car is at start and slow speed, transmission is not smooth and a bit of jerking. But at higher and normal speed, it is perfectly fine. BMW dealer advised to replace both the engine and transmission mount. But another mechanic said just replaces the transmission fluid and filter? Anyone out there may kindly advise what I should do? Other than this, the car is working like almost when I first day drove home 10 years ago.
So sorry to hear you’re having issues with your GT!
I’m no mechanic, but I would recommend two things:
1) Find a mechanic that specializes in BMWs and is NOT the dealer. You’ll save huge amounts of money, and you’ll find that they often know much more about older BMWs than the dealers do.
2) Have the Transmission Fluid flush and change done. This is cheap and is a good first step. If it solves the issue, great. If it doesn’t, you’ve spent very little to rule out a common issue.
Also, I believe this transmission is adaptive, meaning it gets used to your driving and creates shifting patterns based on this.

It’s gotten better over time, and the 5 platform is certainly an awesome platform. I’ve had 4 different 5 Series cars and loved them all.

i own and drive this car since 2014, 7.5 years now. Your statements are pretty accurate, but i need to say one thing for you to consider - i always feel the base of vehicle is a bit light. 2 liters engine for 5 series but now for 3 series, is this a cause? Or just only my wrong feeling?
Have you had many issues with the car?
@@ENNARELL Two issues for the past 7.5 years worth to mention - 1. Gas pedal vibrated, but BMW managed to fix. 2. When started engine in the morning, it runs into stop, and need to restart again. But BMW managed to fix it.
And now, the car is as good as in the day one when bought.

For us, the car has been ultra reliable. We've owned it for 3 years and almost 40k miles, and I don't remember it ever going to the shop for anything other than regular maintenance. Of course, YMMV. If you are looking to purchase one, I always recommend getting a car with a solid service history, and ALWAYS have a Pre Purchase Inspection done at a place that knows the kind of car well.

And remember. BMW's are rather high maintenence cars than low! Oils need to be changed at least between the intervalls. Gearbox oil around 65k miles. Life lasting oil is a myth!

If you want Mini based BMWs. Buy the FD versions. Those misfits with Mini platform and 1,5L PSA/Ford engine they call BMW. Discrase for them selves! GT got nothing that reminds of Mini.

Hi - This seems like a rather loaded statement? Have you had bad experiences with BMWs? For sure, they can cost money once they get up high in age and miles, but in my experience, no more than other comparable cars. And the build quality seems to be going up again. I currently have 6 BMWs and have owned several others before that, and overall, I find them to be fairly reliable and no more expensive to fix than other cars. Of course, you have to find a good and reliable 3rd party mechanic. If you have the work done at the BMW Dealerships, then the costs can add up quickly!
BMWs are high maintenece cars. If you look for a car that is low maintenence car, for gods sake don't buy a BMW. With bad luck it doesn't matter what manufacturer car you have, it's a bust. For this reason i like to say that "Too many people own a BMW that shouldn't".
The 3 series is a technical nightmare, BMW never rectified the timing chain issue, buy one at your own risk.
I’m sorry to hear you have had issues with your 3-Series! Ours has been rock solid, but it sucks if yours has been problematic. What year and model is your 3? Did your timing chain guides wear out?
@@cadreamdrives i haven't had an issue because i wouldn't own one, if you know anything at all about these cars, then you know the 3 series is renowned for timing chain failures, and any mechanic worth his salt will tell you that these engines are totally unreliable, it's not a question of if, but when will the chains fail.

The problem is thst the chain tentioner works with oli pressure. There for idle and low rews are the enemy of the 2L engines. The engine is the enemy of it self because it is programmed low rev. But with 10k miles oil service and proper acceleration you dhould be fine. Some use the sport mode all the time to keep revd higher. Some change the tentioner in fore hand. Better engine than it's reputation.
