But if you're asking me, I always loved Tracy's game... Actually, I wrote this little piece the other day that covered about twenty-four years of NBA. It's really nothing special and it really needs more for the amount it covers, but reading it really floods the mind with nostalgia. Let me look for it, maybe it'll give you some ideas.
Here it is.
I've been watching the NBA for about 24 years. I got to see Houston win a title with a guy who looked just like Will Smith while Michael played baseball. I saw Reggie Miller score 8 points in 6 seconds. I watched while G. Hill and J. Kidd won co-rookie of the year, I was there for the Penny and Shaq duo, then I saw them get swept by Houston as they won their 2nd in a row. I continued to look as Michael made his comeback. I even looked when Magic made his. I saw Joe Smith get drafted as the number one overall pick. I saw Gary Payton throw a lob to Kemp. I watched KG come straight from high school. I saw Allen Iverson, Ray Allen, Stephon Marbury, Steve Nash and Kobe Bryant enter the NBA. I remember when Shaq left Penny, Dennis and Nick to play with Van Exel, Jones, Ceballos and Bryant. I witnessed as Kobe shot "another airball" in the playoffs as a rookie. I saw Michael grab another three-peat. I saw him cross Russell and make the most beautiful shot I've ever seen. I saw him retire, again. I watched Duncan's team when a title. I saw Vince bring back the dunk contest. I saw the greatest duo of all time fight, bicker, and hate each other as they won three in a row. I saw them get dismantled, too. I saw Michael make another comeback. I saw lebron, wade, melo, bosh and darko come into the league. I saw Tracy score at will. I saw him score 13 points in 33 seconds. I saw Kobe score 62 in 3 quarters. Then I saw him score 81 in four. I watched as the Spurs won another. I watched as Dirk got beat in the first round during his MVP year. I saw Nash change the game and win back to back MVP's, I watched Baron Davis throw it down on Kirilenko's head. I saw the resurgence of the Celtics. I saw them beat the Lakers to add another banner. Then I saw Kobe win two in a row as he got revenge. I saw "The Decision". I saw Dirk win a ring. I saw lebron win two. I saw Kobe go down. I watched Ray hit a crazy baseline three. I got to see the entire career of some of the greatest players of all time. I am watching as others' careers start winding down, now it starts over with Anthony Davis and Andrew Wiggins.

I'm gonna miss watching him play. He's the last of a dying breed. LeBron is great and all that, no question there. But they don't make competitive athletes like they used to.
The only current (young) player that I can think of that has the same chip on his shoulder, the same grit, the same drive and energy, the same killer instinct is Russell Westbrook. But even he has nothing on the Kobe's and Jordan's. Potential, yes. Especially how he broke out last season with all those triple doubles. But he has a lot of work to do to get to this level.
Sad to see that generation fading out.
That's a common comparison, but Kobe & Jordan had a mentality that wasn't nearly as physical but more psychological/mental, thus more effective & durable through time.

first of i wanna say kobe is on my top 3 players of all time, i am a huge kobe and laker fan. BUT please please kobe just retire at the end of this season....it hurts me to even say this but his time is over, as a laker fan i want my team to rebuild now and not try to build around kobe anymore...now i know kobe can still play his footwork is still great and all that but he is just too damn expensive. you cant beat father time he isn't in his 20's or even early 30's anymore we need the cap room to bring in young talent and for a new star to take the reigns to help us win more championships. but no doubt all respect to kobe he deserves his own statue outside staples center ((Would love it if they make the statue of him doing his platinum fade away jumper with a defender or two in his face )) hang his jersey and most of all thank you kobe for the 5 championships you help bring to us.
