Ama Divers Interlude

These women were instrumental in the development of pearl and oyster diving in Japan. The ancient tradition of Ama diving started with women diving for seafood about 2000 years ago. Today, there are about 3000 active Ama Divers in the Ise-Shima region of Japan.
