The Police at their peak. Synchronicity was the peak of their commercial popularity, this is their peak as a live band.
THE 80'S WERE THEIRS. NO BAND WAS COUGHED ON THEM. NOT THE STONES, NOT G 'n R, NOT EVEN THE U-2
Art A Andy Summers gave The Edge his es335 - a passing of the torch moment... U2 became bigger for sure... Joshua Tree ‘87 they became super stars...
agreed - this set list - this year - amazing
I totally agree with you!!! The live performances of Police in 1980 is just perfect
No argument here!
Once again listening to Copeland’s masterful drums. One of the best.
I never saw them live, but watching this I am amazed with Andy Sumers' ability to make the band sound so full. Truly one of rock's most underrated guitarists. I love Sting's voice and Stewart Copeland - what can you say except that
he's just incredible!
+Patrick Pasqua I passed up the chance to see them on the next tour. Oy.
So glad I went to Day On The Green for the Synchronicity tour, 9-10-83. And Bowie one week later. I was seventeen and that was the only time I saw the Police ... and the only Bowie show I ever saw too.
Never seen them LIVE. Yet, I bought the H3LL outta their vinyl! Great stuff.
agreed. texture master
You never saw them live, yet. I think they will do one final tour someday...
Andy's sound is very common now, but when he started it was revolutionary. He changed the way guitarist played the instrument.
I can hear it in The Edge & Alex Lifeson.
textural stuff - and fabulous.
layering/looping + boatload of effects/reverb/harmonics
People don't realize that but you are 100 percent correct. When I first heard The Police on the radio, the most distinctive sound was Andy's Guitar. Nobody sounded like that before him. Ex. Don't stand so close to me.
super clean tones and a chorus are a big part of it. I feel like Andy is a big reason so many people started using Roland JC120 amps
Damn, the extended jams in this show are fantastic. Ambient but with fullness that they don't usually have. Stewart's backing vocals are also pretty damn good here. Probably the peak of their live act IMO.
Lucas Tax agreed!! As much as i love stewart copleland he definitely tended to rush and overplay some of the earlier stuff
Their backing vocals are the best I've heard here. I don't know if they just are louder in the mix than normal or if Stewart and Andy became complacent with the bvs.
I loved it when they provided their own background vocals like a "real" band. When they toured Synchronicity later and added the female backup vocalists (who were trying to over-sing Sting) it was so lame, and didn't sound like the recordings at all
Possibly the all time ultimate 3 piece band
have you heard rush?
@@RezaPratamaR - I love them both! :-))
@@mightyV444 oh sure me too..
@@RezaPratamaR - Both bands use those foot pedal synths, too! I remember hearing Rush's 'Grace Under Pressure' album (my first Rush impression) and thinking, "Oh cool, I found my Police replacement!", as the latter had split up, obviously :-)
@@mightyV444 Neil Peart once said in an interview in the movie 'beyond the lighted stage' that he was influenced by The Police during the creative process of 'spirit of the radio' i think those bands are amazing in their own area
As a drummer who idolized stu when I was in a police tribute band , to me studying piano and struggling which instrument I prefer, I am pretty much bowing to stings talent as a singer playing bass. That is insane difficulty that only ppl who play instruments understand
There were very few who could do that - sing and play bass (on this level of excellence..):
Jack Bruce, John Wetton... Chris Squire also
It really IS insane - to anyone who ever tried that .. Borders with schizofrenia.
Great to hear Deathwish live - a great and underrated track!
I like the dynamics of this music, you can hear everything. Nothing is a blur like a lot of concerts. When you are bombarded with guitars and bass you get sonic fatigue. Here with this music, you don't. Makes you want to hear more and more.
I have been listening to The police since 1978 but Never realized that its Andy summers who made The police music unique.
just check his work on bring on the night , you think there are three guitarists playing.
stings voice and bass lines , with the legendrey stewart , this band is untouchable .. s
wonder if the 8-string bass helps
All 3 of them made their music unique. There just is no one else who plays like Stewart and Andy, and Stings' vocals and not reproduceable. You can come close, but it takes Stewart, Sting and Andy to make The Police.
Still one of the most Happenings since the Stones or the Beatles
My favorite guitar "teacher"..i played those police albums and tapes and cds bazillions of times.. not to cop his style.. but to learn ftom it... love his workand his documentary is incredible.. thank you andy summers for some of my best guitar lessons every.. your rhythm playing went right to my soul... taught me everything i needed.
You still dream of strapping on the "Tele"! 1:08:30 Cheers!

At their peak and Sting at his most intense. Stellar performance- Deathwish, Beds too big, driven to tears, shadows in the rain are all sublime and fully jammed out that are far superior to the recorded versions
Dont forget Bring On The Night + Man In A Suitcase
November 29, 1980
Those days have gone, unfortunately...
Know right! From '78 - '81! The best!
Thank you to John Sher for recording all these historic concerts and making them available. Although I would not mind seeing a bit more Stewart Copland
Musicianship off the charts
Tones of energy, they just never stop, unbelievable!
great band , 3 perfect pieces together.....seen them at this show....was in last row !!
Such a great tour...
and XTC were playing support at the time of their Black Sea album.
Those were the days...
40 years! Still kicks ass!
The reason why I became a bass player. Just a fab band.
+ Claran Doherty What model is the double bass on Walking on the Moon????
Van Zalinge Z Bass
Ciaran Doherty
Luis rolando pizarro menay
The reason I play guitar still to this day,
Same as me I met sting on the letterman show in 1991 when we had are first number 1 in The US of A
I saw The Police at Memorial Drive Adelaide in 1980 when they just began their world wide popularity and I was 16 and loving life 🎼💯✔️
They were at their most muscular peak here in the sense it was obvious to everyone they were a force to be reckoned with. They were themselves and not a genre. They made it cool and smart to be a Police fan. They deserved the money.
I saw this concert when they played in Buenos Aires ..Unforgettable
One song after the other, no gimmicks, relentless.....and packed with energy from start to finish. What a band!!
The musicianship of those three was astonishing.
I snuck into The Police + The GoGos at the Rosemont Horizon outside Chicago by simply handing the clueless ticket taker an unused Emerson, Lake & Palmer ticket. Great concert.
Respect!
NOICE !! gotta love The Capitol Theater for their commitment to preserving rock history...
Outstanding guitar work by Andy.
Saw them on the Ghost in the Machine tour. I was 11 years old and still was one of my favorite concerts I went to.
Sting has great stage presents
caught them in NY .. I was a young angst drummer.. I was fixed on Stewarts drums and signature snare pop.. with attitude.. and what was written on his Toms..
Wow. was born in 1980 and grew up listening to The Police, but I never realised how talented they were - I always pictured another couple of support musicians on stage with them. All three band members were on top form in this performance, and I would have to say that they are some of the best musicians I have ever seen put on a live show after watching this.
Holy crap this is intense. I’ve always enjoyed the Police, but I’ve never really explored their live work until the last few days. The energy is just on fire from beginning to end, I envy people who saw the Police live during this period.
Check out their Live at The Beat Club 33-min set 1979. Incredible. I’ve watched dozens of times.
I cannot stop watching this concert- there’s something cool about it being in black and white as well! The camera angles are quite good too!
Sat in the last row with Scott and Figs great concert
Amazing how they all work together, like no other band I can remember. Closer to Grateful Dead territory. They are fingers of one hand. Watch how Andy picks out the four notes for Bed's Too Big, he picks up rhythm while Stingo goes solo.
Stewart Copeland Is one of the two best living drummers.
Copeland une légende 👍
Who's the other?
Love the police early albums..they provided the musical background to my late teens and 20s ..
The GREATEST 3 piece of all time! 😊 ❤😮
now that's multitasking, hitting those notes on the minimoog while playing bass!
One of the top 5 rock groups of all time.
And who are the other four?
for sure more than 5 that is just a way to say how much hot and important the police has been

The best
Wonderful concert footage! Thanks for the upload.
The live version of “bring on the night” is a great song.
Andy's solo makes me cry
Excelente! 🎸
I saw this tour' live in Fukuoka, Japan. Thank you for the upload!
Wow this is the greatest live stuff I’ve heard other than the first disc from the double live disc. Thanks ,
omg this is so amazing. thanks for uploading. 28:26 is gorgeous, what a break...
I was at this show all the way in the back , great post.
+JVS Christmas me too...pretty cool
I'm so grateful that Sting still performs so many of these songs live and I've been fortunate to stand in the front and rock out to these classic Police songs 43 years later. It keeps me young!
Yea but he is old now, so not like this. I love Police have from 20 I'm 62 now
@@pam164 We are all older, he looks great regardless! I met him a couple of times in 2014-15 and he is very humble and kind now
@@tinagoldman2316 That's nice you met him, I know we all get older i was just saying I really liked him when he was young, then and now.
This was their best tour, three albums worth of material, sticking to the tracks on the album, with some great jams. While their best album is yet to come, ghost in the machine (which is my all-time favorite album of any group/artist) but on that ghost tour, some may remember was when sting started to create new arrangements of their songs for live concerts. These Arrangements were not good ( and I am being kind about it). Take a look at the ghost tour and his awful rearrangement of Hungry for You. This, in turn led to some thinking that they are not a good live band, but that was actually not the case and with the synchronicity tour they sort of got back to just playing the songs. Sort of, Not completely though, The Grammys and their reunion tour was again rearranging great songs to make them less not more. A shame. Ghost in the machine is near perfection, if not perfection. The band’s amazing talent was tightly surrounded by keyboards and saxophones. Why not play like the record in concert? Went to that show and it was very disappointing. Oh well, I got over it. Sort of.
The best gig ever from Police amazing never see that before! Thank you!! 🙏🙏🤘
Thanks for posting this!
Downloaded. Thank you! Gulf Shores
Love this. Thanks a lot
Great stuff! And irrefutable proof that these three guys completely earned their success, working their ass&s off in amazing gigs like this across the world.
I can't give this enough Thumb's up 👍 !
Such a sick show - they killed it on "Man In A Suitcase"....was hoping for Secret Journey but I've never seen a video, just a recording or two live.
'Secret Journey' most probably hadn't even been written at that point in time, however it wouldn't be much longer before they'd start work on the 'Ghost In The Machine' album :-)
Love it when Andy plays square sounds and Sting plays round ones!
Amazing Band....Amazing concert!
Shadows in the rain, Summer's harmonics are to die for..
how could Sting possibly make that bass sound really mysterious?
the best all times
the police imortal
Man. I'm old and this is one of my favorites
That a Diamond Dave impression at 1:11:37?
Juaaaaaaaaaaaaaa yes!!!!
Fucking idiot
That fruit loop dreams of having Stingo's talents.
Didn't dave have an album called "Shark Sandwich"?
What was the 2 word review? Oh yeah... Anyone remember?

Great stuff Thanks 👌
I was there with my brother
I saw you!
Although zenyatta mondatta is not their best work in my opinion, they were at their peak live on this tour. On this concert they were amazing, I especially like when the World is running down, bring on the night, so lonely, driven to tears and the bed's too big without you.
This is goldust...why have i never seen this before??
I saw this tour when I was 15. Changed my life--my "garage band" at the time went Police crazy. We practiced basically Cars and Police covers for a while. Three guys leaving on the stage like no one else could at that time. Thanks for posting this. Great memory of a great time.
Speakers are exploded, THE POLICE sirens are started.
Energy, generosity on the stage were the key of this incomparable & unforgettable band.
Unique Sting boice, unique Copeland hit=hat & snare sound, unique Summers British phlegm : unique trio.
this was a perfect venue back in the day
robertk2007 YES
Amazing then! Still amazing today! Too bad Sting couldn't do his solo work and still make music with The Police....Thanks for posting!!!!!!!!
Love this version of "Man In A Suitcase"
"Hole In My Life"would be very good if they performed it here
Brilliant performance.
Just so talented
Excellent two thumbs up
I was at this show. Finally got around to watch this all the way through. I suppose I hadn't ever before because I remember it being GREAT and didn't want to look at this video to see otherwise 30 years later, LOL. Good news: It was great. Especially the second half of this video including Roxanne and the encores. A strong memory that I had was that during Roxanne, they had very bright backlights that seemed blinding to the audience. They turned them on during the chorus of the song. It was very cool because those lights hadn't been used prior to that moment of the show. I did see evidence of this in this video, but the angle that the camera captures the stage doesn't give it full effect. I'm going to trust my memory of it ; ) Trust me. I was happy to watch this today, seeing Sting in his prime, about to become a world-class performer. I also got reminded why Stu was my favorite drummer back then. I loved the way his entire drum kit shook and bounced. The Police were a great band. Last comment - the video that proceeds this one is from a show in the UK not quite two years after this one. You can see what a big year and half it was for the band, and how popular they had become. And one more comment from me - I saw them at Nassua Coliseum at the end of their North America leg of the Ghost in the Machine Tour. I expected it to be not as good as this one, (much larger venue, etc) but it may have been even better. Can somebody post THAT concert?? Haha.
Hey Robert, I think I was also at this show. Do you recall it starting with a guy coming out after the warmup band saying there was a bomb scare and we should look under our seats. Then when there was no bomb the show went off.
Wow--I didn't know they still included "Fall Out" on the setlist this far into their career!
Far? They'd only been an album band for 2 years at this point, 2 years is not far. Fall Out disappeared from the set list at Ghost in the Machine tho, just seemed so out of place with the more sophisticated songs.
They just released their 3rd album at the time of this show with new songs played off the album.
Didn’t they play Fallout as late as the Police Picnic in August 1981?
Just checked. Fallout was not played.
@@jasonlefler3456 still playing it on Feb 22nd 1981 Melbourne festival theatre show.
I didn't know the police were this good this early
I have perused LOTZ! Thx for the B & W classics! Capitol Theater is/was a classic Venue! Just imagin' being the Crowd!
I was there!!!! It was awesome!!!
Sorry I wasn't there. Absolutely great
My loves brought so much joy to my life.
In the 6th or 7th Grade('77 or '78) and was checking out an Afternoon Special about Roadies and showcasting The Police. THE REST IS HISTORY!!
Typically, I try to share a high-point in a long-play video. But, there is NONE! This is INCREDIBLE throughout! Eh?
Yes. I am a tool. But, MEYTAL just makes it look soo natural. czcams.com/video/DOIbXofCEGE/video.html
Back in the days they had the punk rock vibe with the sophisticated equipment of a prog band (fretless 8 string bass, 3 taurus pedals and 2 minimoogs!!!)
Great show indeed!
Mesmerizing, energetic, incredible.
A great sound on Andy's guitar.
Best trio ever
Thx giving for timestamps hyperlinked in tracklist description
Fully Jammed out
Incredible performance. 👏
Luarbiasa band masa SMP ku (Excellent very, my fav band during high school
So amazing and the really scary bit is that if feels like just yesterday!
They are really amazing, thru the years, The Police!!!!
What Power and Positive ENERGY, and what impro they used always… and for Ever !!!… Pure Freedom Music. 👮♂️👮♂️👮♂️🙏❤️❤️❤️💕💕💕
Ninth grade when they played this show. Mrs. S, the French teacher. Don't Stand in reverse. Great memories.
great stuff #oldskool luv the live tunes
I am a huge Police fan but I was still a little young to fully appreciate them this early. I was bourn in 1967 so I was still kind of a tweenager during this year. I had just discovered them in 1980 and only had a couple of their songs I recorded off of a radio station late night on a crappy mono tape recorder but it was a treasure to me. These are my favorite songs and did not realize how far back they recorded them.
Man do I wish someone would have do a new vinyl pressing of this concert. I would be in heaven. Hell even a remaster with a clean up and new vinyl pressing would be worth it's weight in Gold to me.
I still have 5 decent cassette decks at home just waiting for a tape of this to play.
TDK, Sony, Tascom, 3M anybody out there are you paying attention? Are you listening?
Many of us are starving for actual Music instead of the garbage being dumped out there today. What does it tell you when many current groups have been trying to play covers or are sampling older music to make new recordings of their tweaked music.
I was there because I am 2 years older than you, 15 years old. It was my second ever concert at Memorial Drive after seeing Adam and the Ants 🐜 in what used to be Adelaide’s Apollo Stadium. This was the beginning of the years I still remember so well. It was the bomb, life back then. I’m so blessed to have been in this era and my age in the beginning of the 1980’s when the world was loving life. It was the beginning of a life long love of live music 🎵 ❤🎸👏🏻🙏✔️
A bit hard to watch, but worth it for history in the making. Thanks for posting and sharing.
A bit hard to comprehend how it’s hard to watch bro. Actually it’s the exact opposite and awesome to watch. What’s hard to watch about this???
Has to be a bot, that is ridiculous, if this is hard to watch, then music is not your forte
I started at Message in a bottle, looking understand Andes Summer, but the drums arise by them selvesand, when ling on the bass.. another genius grows... The entire nad is amazing! But is wxample of sinergic working of three genius.
