I played this game when I was like 10 years old and I found it both fascinating and excruciatingly difficult and frustrating. I don't think I ever managed to collect a single batcraft part. Would have the game been just a bit more forgiving (e.g a bit less of death when touching stuff), I think I would have much fonder memories of it.
Isn't it the case with almost all the ZX Spectrum games though? Times were tough for kids, I received my Timex 2048 as a ~8 y.o. with 2 games - Jet Set Willy & Ghosts'n'Goblins... Can you imagine?
I did complete this awesome game without cheats back in the day. A nice, tongue-in-cheek varation of Batman. This and the legendary Elite gobbled up quite some time. And it was time well invested for fun and excitement.
Unbelievable I spent hundreds of hours of my child hood trying to find those parts and you complete it in 30 mins. They didn't have Internet walk through back then lol
I've not seen Batman and this style of game for the ZXSpectrum in years. I have to say the graphics and programing are top notch considering the system limitations. You guys do great work by playing through these games for people to see and reminisce over :)
I remember playing this game a few times when I was a kid. I never got far. Now I look at it and the first thought that comes to my mind is 'Back when I was a little twerp, I had fun with the stupidest of things. The only thing this has to do with Batman is that Batman shows up in it'.
omg!!! my dad used to play this when i was 7 y.o. now i'm 30 so guess how old is this, is amazing to see the origin of why i like videogames, now i got an xbox and i finished batman arkham assilum / arkham city in 6 days.... amazing fukin remember, seems like it was yesterday when i was sitting beside my dad watchin him playin this thing. EPIC
i remember, a loooot of years ago, playing this game and being frustrated again and again... and finished it with some pokes. and i don't know why, i spent all this afternoon watching old spectrum videos...
I rem playing this to death but could never complete it. It was so annoying that it used to send you back every time you lost a life. A good game for the speccy though. Thanks for uploading.
Good work! As far as I recall, for years I was unable to progress beyond the first few rooms. Only realised that you needed the jetpack to get past the room at 3:00 ,though accidental trial and error. After that I made rapid progress. Still, on jogging my memories with this playthrough, not sure how, I once possessed enough endurance to complete the game.
Awesome, man. I remember when I have it on my MSX. I played it for 3 continued hours and I never got more than 5 parts of batcraft. Obviously, I didn't use a map, only self exploration, but even knowing the map, your precision was very good to not die.
I first played this when I was 15 round at a friends. Was intensely difficult, didn't discover immunity pokes for a good 4 years after first playing it.
Did Ocean just get Jon & Bernie to change some sprites after they got the Batman licence? If not, why is everything in it so profoundly weird? Is Batman under the influence of some sort of psychoactive gas?
This game was huge..when i realized being a child that this game was for houndred of games to finish i just give it away...sure there are not more than 100 persons in the world who finish this game with out pokes...spectrum and its frustrating level of difficult in the games..
I played Monster Max for the GameBoy as a kid and only discovered, that the same people developed Head over Heals and this game. I only try it until the part to get the Jetpack, but could not get the jumps to skip gaps working. But jumping in the air before falling, did I not try out and at the end?! Collecting the blocks or spring after you jump from it! Some old games must have some kind of BS in it.
yup, I always got a little freaked out by the enemies in these isometric 3d games tho like in "the prodigy" and "sweevos world" which i got free on the amstrad action tape lol.
It's like some bloke in fancy dress got lost in some crazy house factory but I don't care I loved it at the time to me it was batman ..batman lost on his day off from fighting crime. Hope I don't need the bat mobile tomorrow it's in bits too !
I remember, i played for ... maybe 1 month in a spectrum 128k, never finished, always get out of lifes in one room or another but one day in a friend´s house whit a amstrand cpc he told me "i have this batman game, is so damm hard ..." he was stuck in a room before the jet so i got the joystick and finished in a row, whit (yes i still remember) 9 lifes left damm i was so proud of myself.
+DrTenDeg How much ram your Amiga could have varies allot. The Amiga with the least amount of ram was the 1000 with 256k, those where expensive for the home user and was quickly discontinued. so it could not been 128k and it isn't very likely that you had this one.. two years after the 1000 the 500 came out for the "low end" / home user market. It is the most popular Amiga ever, looked a bit like the C64 and came with 512k. Later low end models came later in the 90's like the 600 and 1200 with double or 4 times the ram of the 500 respectively but I'd I think you then would know it wasn't 128k. A bit more on topic. I like that the guys used the Batman license as a excuse to make a isometric platformer, like Head over heels' last ten minutes "Bullshit" story :)
What a game - I’m guessing this was made by the same guys who made head over heels. Both games look similar to play and both are fiendish, though this one is more difficult. I wish old retro games like this were re-released on the modern consoles, as I feel that today’s generation would benefit 😊
This game i played in Enterprise 128 the different is only on have more colors.... my personal record 5 peace of craft. And i remember to 2 cassette have the first 5 min A side the Enterball (this game came only Enterprise and Hungary programmers made the A SOFT) the B side Magic ball the second 15 min cassette A side Batman, Jack the Nipper and the B side Cauldron.... good to see why i played almost all day that game for i made it... and i see it 30 min enough for.... >)
Soooo like, the Wikipedia article says you’re supposed to save Robin in this game. Buuuuut, I didn’t see Robin.... Did Batman finally give Robin the ol’ middle finger and left the Batcave without him..?
Instead of losing all of those lives in that one room, why not go a different route back through the rooms shown between 10:00 - 10:50? Also, IMO, this game is far better than Head Over Heels because the room layout/map has more of a structured route from beginning to the end. When playing Head Over Heels, for the most part, it's just one big mass of rooms almost as though it wasn't planned out. I get bored every time because there's so many directions you can go, especially due to the whole different worlds format.
Jon Ritman: _"Strange but I've always thought that I'd screwed up in making some of the early rooms in Batman too hard (in particular one about 9 rooms in) and as a result loads of players would never see a lot of the game (a pity considering the effort I'd put into making it). I thought by the time I made HoH I had learnt a lesson and so there were often multiple routes, giving alternatives to players that found a room too hard."_
Agree with the route. But that was the interesting part of great games like this one: you could solve them one way or another. In my case, the route I usually took to complete the game was really different than @RZX Archive's and maybe yours: I got past "that one room" two times, so I took ( 5:50 ) the speed pill for the first pass and the inmunity pill for the second one. That way, I didn't loose lives there... usually. Anyway, my strategy's got a weak side: I had to face "Nasty Ronaldo" ( 6:24 , he looks like the Brazilian football player) without pills and that was really really painful.
For such a polished game, the Batman tune at the beginning is SO wrong it makes my ears bleed. An embarrassment. It always annoyed me at the time. I mean how could it be released with that???
As a child, this game really gave me the creeps. Good to see you again old friend, lol
This is the most realistic portrayal of The Batman I have ever seen.
really what about arkham games
sans the skeleton This Is a Joke...
Dude, same. I just watched this vid to finally get closure.
Isn't it the case with almost all the ZX Spectrum games though? Times were tough for kids, I received my Timex 2048 as a ~8 y.o. with 2 games - Jet Set Willy & Ghosts'n'Goblins... Can you imagine?
Yeah it pissed me off enormously when I was 11.
I got thoroughly annoyed with it. I much preferred Sweevo's world, that was great.
Probably still easier than paperboy 😂😡 fuck paperboy!!! 😂
I did complete this awesome game without cheats back in the day.
A nice, tongue-in-cheek varation of Batman.
This and the legendary Elite gobbled up quite some time. And it was time well invested for fun and excitement.
Wow, I didn't even scratch the surface of that game. Good skills!
Unbelievable I spent hundreds of hours of my child hood trying to find those parts and you complete it in 30 mins. They didn't have Internet walk through back then lol
In all fairness, those 30 minutes came about after (probably) hundreds of hours of failure!
THIS "GAME" scarred my childhood
Was remembering an 80s Christmas with my dad one year and we played this for hours. Just got stuck in the same room finally seen the room beaten.
I've not seen Batman and this style of game for the ZXSpectrum in years. I have to say the graphics and programing are top notch considering the system limitations. You guys do great work by playing through these games for people to see and reminisce over :)
Thanks for your comment!
Habbo is like this lmao
As a kid this game taught me to be patient and how to solve puzzles.
One of the best game for ZX Spectrum! We've got so many happy time playing it in our childhood!
Used to play this for hours but never realised how bizarre it all is for a Batman game until watching it again years later.
Hola! Alguna vez lo comparó con solstice de NES?
I remember playing this game a few times when I was a kid. I never got far.
Now I look at it and the first thought that comes to my mind is 'Back when I was a little twerp, I had fun with the stupidest of things. The only thing this has to do with Batman is that Batman shows up in it'.
Holy shit nearly after 30 years i again see this
Quite a trip seeing this again!
The sound when batman walks scares me
omg!!! my dad used to play this when i was 7 y.o. now i'm 30 so guess how old is this, is amazing to see the origin of why i like videogames, now i got an xbox and i finished batman arkham assilum / arkham city in 6 days.... amazing fukin remember, seems like it was yesterday when i was sitting beside my dad watchin him playin this thing. Laura Blanco yeah baby!
Impressive how Batman has an idle animation in 1986.
I like the Jack Nipper one where he starts picking his nose. More my style than foot tapping .
Thank you! Brought back my childhood! You did in 35m what I took months to achieve in 1987!
One to definitely lower the volume on
this brings back so many memories. wow. played this when i was around 6 on my 128k +2 speccy
i remember, a loooot of years ago, playing this game and being frustrated again and again... and finished it with some pokes. and i don't know why, i spent all this afternoon watching old spectrum videos...
I rem playing this to death but could never complete it. It was so annoying that it used to send you back every time you lost a life. A good game for the speccy though. Thanks for uploading.
I remember playing this game years ago but never got close to finishing it. Some of those last rooms look like a real pain to get past. Good job!
@00:34 I like how lil monster guy looks like he’s dancing to the music lol
It is incredible that after that the evolution was much smaller,so small that you could have it anywhere you wanted and called gameboy.
Que buen juego!! Allá en los 80'
Awesome, man. I remember when I have it on my MSX. I played it for 3 continued hours and I never got more than 5 parts of batcraft.
Obviously, I didn't use a map, only self exploration, but even knowing the map, your precision was very good to not die.
wow amazing what these guys did with 48 kb!
el mejor juego de la historia. que bien lo pase de pequeño con él. Nunca conseguir llegar al final y hoy puedo verlo. Gracias.
Saludos! Jugo alguna vez solstice de NES?
I first played this when I was 15 round at a friends. Was intensely difficult, didn't discover immunity pokes for a good 4 years after first playing it.
the real arkam asylum
I hated these type of games so much as a young boy...
Like a lot of games of this era, this was basically Knight Lore reskinned with a fat Batman sprite.
If I ever make an indie game it is going to like like this cuz this so cool
Did Ocean just get Jon & Bernie to change some sprites after they got the Batman licence? If not, why is everything in it so profoundly weird? Is Batman under the influence of some sort of psychoactive gas?
God does he have to make that sound when he walks WTF
This game was huge..when i realized being a child that this game was for houndred of games to finish i just give it away...sure there are not more than 100 persons in the world who finish this game with out pokes...spectrum and its frustrating level of difficult in the games..
with my sister we still use the 'death tune' as a symbol of someone biting the dust
(the 128k version though)
I played this back in the 80's, it was basically Head over Heels reskinned with a Batman sprite.
More like the other way around, this predated HoH.
I'd love to play this game. I'd probably turn off the sound, though.
Closure 35 years later 😅
I played Monster Max for the GameBoy as a kid and only discovered, that the same people developed Head over Heals and this game. great game :)
Which model of the ZX Spectrum did you play this on? I’m looking to purchase one and I’m so lost lol 😂
How many hours I spent with this game on my AMSTRAD CPC!!!!
yup, I always got a little freaked out by the enemies in these isometric 3d games tho like in "the prodigy" and "sweevos world" which i got free on the amstrad action tape lol.
Oh yes bringing back memories. First Batman then my all time favourite 'Head Over Heels' all my Amstrad 128 with disk drive.
Amstrad PCW, in my case. So many hours.
Uno de los mejores que tuve.encontre varias piezas pero no termine.tengo el juego pero no el spectrum.
ngl, I got ptsd watching this lol. fond but stressful memories. never did finish the game, i think i was like 8-10 years old when i was playing it
Played this quite a bit don't think I achieved much, difinitely didn't find any Batmobile pieces.
Arghhh! number of times i tried to finish this. Too difficult for me.
lolz no wonder i thought the nes was the most amazing thing ever haha. its nice to look back.
It's like some bloke in fancy dress got lost in some crazy house factory but I don't care I loved it at the time to me it was batman ..batman lost on his day off from fighting crime. Hope I don't need the bat mobile tomorrow it's in bits too !
classic game

Great game. I never got very far though ha

@@MarcKloos I used like those games where you could just go anywhere.
9:20 I've been in that room so many times and I never once saw that piece.
Jesus same with 16:20
I think this is the best 3d isometric game of spectrum. Very dificult. I need inmunity poke's for finish him.
The horses monsters look like the dinohorse from the phone applet "Mod copii"
The games fine it's just the batman song in the beginning not how bat man is supposed to begin
Look at a lot of the graphical assets, I kinda wonder if this was a different game that they just slapped Batman into.
Andrew Vrba It's 'Head over Heels' pretty much, same sprits as well.
This game is very similar to a game called "Solstice" which appeared on NES.
It's just Solstice
Una partida al Batman con mi primo y después a la Glorieta. No vuelvo a 2021 ni de coña...🤔
Puto infierno de juego cuando era niño. Soñaba con sus pisadas😅😢
Very Fairlight isn't it.
You are God!
For such a polished game, the Batman tune at the beginning is SO wrong it makes my ears bleed. An embarrassment. It always annoyed me at the time. I mean how could it be released with that???
In romanian career plaza the road is really closed
Poor man's Head over Heels.
To be fair this was written before Head Over Heels, by the same people. A sort of prequel.
RZX Archive True. My mistake. And was it by the same guy(s)?
Will Scarlett Yeah, Jon Ritman was the programmer and Bernie Drummond did the graphics on both games.
jejeje cojonudo
wow! At minute 25:00 the road is almost closed
Se parece mucho a Solstice
Honestly loved this fucking game..!!! Weird seeing it in colour my cpc was green screen..!!! 😂😂😂
I remember hating it.
Habbo hotel?
забавно. и графика отличная
This wasn't really a proper Batman game, it was just Knight Lore with a Batman sprite.
its identical to knightlore
1:38 what the huck are those?!
Más realista que el Arkham Knight
que tiene esto que ver con batman?
Darthpepo qué esta batman (Adam West) como prota :v
0:22
I could never understand this game
20:47
The world's first official Batman game, & it isn't released in the U.S.A, Batman's homeland. 😒
Ha ^^
Какая же она была сложная. Так и не прошел до конца.
The Amstrad version wins, once again.
head over heels was better
Seems like a total rip-off of Head over heels. Or maybe it is the other way around depending on which game was first..
This came before Head Over Heels and was written by the same people.
@@rzxarchive Ah, that explains a lot :)
This is irritating.
