    Incredible news. By far the best value on the market. Gibsons are close but PRS has the playability and quality over them. I jumped on the S2 McCarty 594 anniversary and I knew they were onto something with that. So happy everyone has the chance to get the core model sounds at an affordable price now. Thank you PRS!!!

    I have always felt like the S2 line was a little peculiar. Offering what is marketed as a made in USA model with import pups and electronics always seemed kind of disingenuous. I would say that this makes the S2 line more value for the money, but like everything else these days, the price increase makes it more likely that people are going to either go SE and upgrade hardware, or go core. I am hard pressed to understand some of the decisions that PRS has made over the last few years; and as someone who owns a few core PRS's as well as a couple SE's, I can tell that the QC seems to be slipping a tad, at least on the SE line made in Indonesia compared to the Korean made models. While we're doing upgrades Paul, might I suggest that we do something simple like offer locking tuners on the SE line. I can't imagine that this would cost that much per model, and it would be a great QoL upgrade.

    • @solidus317
      @solidus317 Před 5 měsíci

      I’d imagine there wouldn’t be much value in that for the customer or PRS as it’d be essentially the same product ‘cept made in America and likely less “pretty” due to the lack of the veneers that SE use. The hardware would likely stay the same just as the current/upgraded S2 and SE share. And the Holcomb SE already uses his SD pickups. I guess the Tremonti may have the upgrade of his USA Pickups if it follows these upgrade trends but that’s about it. Just that potential upgrade for 3x+ the cost seems like not a bunch of value.

    I will repeat the same thing I have since getting my first PRS, (I have 1 core model and two artist models) most people balk at the prices, but the way they changed and improved my sound and playing, I cannot imagine not owning them. Can't afford one? IMO, you can't afford not to own one.
    P.S. I was a quality manager for many years, and have toured a couple of factories, including one Gibson factory, and some of the things I saw, and still see on their brand new guitars stopped me in my tracks. I just saw a video recently of a brand new re-issue 'Theodore', and in the video I could see the cracks at the side of the neck joint at the body. I would never settle for one. PRS just can't be matched from a personnel talent, quality and design perspective.

  • @NINEWALKING
    @NINEWALKING Před 5 měsíci

    Gotta love Paul. At the PRS clinic I have asked him almost all the questions :) He was very patient and he knew every little thing. My goal was to show how cables and how the capacitance is crucial in the electric guitar. He even knew how much pF per inch his braided cable has. I might have said how disappointing is that so other companies yes G I am looking at you and some cheaper models never use proper cable even though it is not that expensive. I am not claiming I have placed the seed of the idea :) Anyhow this is really big news. Now S2 are just bit thinner and bit different in the way they make the neck construction. A or two A's lower quality tops. But they are better than ever. They are at the level of some other more expensive models from other companies and they have higher yields and lower variation between the guitars. Now S2 Thin line standard 594 is as good as the Custom Shop SG and is more comfortable to.

    My S2 Studio is one of my favorite guitars, even more so than my Core P22. I put an aftermarket Jim Wagner Darkburst in the bridge but left the middle and neck pickups stock. It rocks and is VERY acoustically resonant. I will say I love the stock pickups on my P22 though. I will never take those out of that guitar.

    EDIT: Actually. Never mind. Prices rose on the S2 series again. By a few hundred. If this was at the price from a few years ago, I'd say this is a good deal. But at the current price, Godin or Fender or G&L or Ibanez or Eastman are better deals at a cheaper price. PRS is great but just get an SE and replace a few things.
    This is a great idea. This really gives the S2 series the value I think it needed. Good call, PRS! After prices rose, I didn't see as much reason to buy an S2 new but this goes a long way in giving more value.

    • @TVsBen
      @TVsBen Před 5 měsíci +3

      They now occupy the price that the S2 10th Anniversary did last year, which also got USA pickups. I figured that this would happen in 2024 to differentiate between the S2 and SE lineups. The SE guitars typically look nicer because the veneer is awesome, so they had to put USA pickups in the S2 to make them viable.

    • @grawman67
      @grawman67 Před 5 měsíci

      @grawman67 Před 5 měsíci

      @@bassyey Exactly. I think an S2 with USA pickups would be a good deal at around 1200-1400 maybe. But even then, a person can get a Godin or FGN or Vola at that price. These are the one line in PRS's lineup I don't get: SEs are an import line, CE a bolt on Core but cheaper, and Core is the cream of the crop. The S2? It's a glorified SE that was finished in Maryland with the import parts and double the price for...some reason? I suppose labor?

    I hope the quality control on these guitars is better than on the Indonesian models. I'm a disabled person and I took some money out of retirement savings and bought 4 PRS SE guitars of different models in the past 6 months and they all had ridiculous problems. Severe fret sprout, missing nuts and washers on the output jacks, one had the action almost a full 1/2 in. above the 12rh fret. Another had serious buzzing issues and needed major fret work and ALL the bridges needed work to get them to stay in tune. These were all brand new guitars, not used and all were in the original sealed PRS boxes. By the time I got done putting the money into getting them playable I could have bought 1 good Core model. I honestly hope PRS does better with the made in the USA models.

    • @solidus317
      @solidus317 Před 5 měsíci

      My guess is you’d have swapped them either way since Dimarzios in general have a tonal quality that neither the SE or Core line 85/15(or any PRS pickup for that matter) possess. If anything the USA 85/15 have more of that “clear”/“hifi”tonality that drives them even further from the typically “fatter” sound that Dimarzios are known for than the import PRS pickups. My J. Custom with Tone Zone/Air Norton couldn’t sound more different than my Core Custom 24 if I tried. Amp/Axe FX settings have to be tweaked when swapping between them than any other combo of guitars that I own.
