Written/Coding test followed by interview. Cutoff for gen is around 700 gate score

If you need better industry exposure = Ms from IITM.
If you need better research exposure (thoughts on PhD) = Mtech R from IISC

Not every company allows. Generally circuital branches are allowed to sit for software development. But yes few companies do allow core branch students also like mech, civil etc.
