    Mike, I love your videos. But PLEASE 🙏 I beg of you. Please stop doing the REALLY LOUD INTRO music/anim. If I have my cans super loud and I go to watch one of your videos, I get my eardrums completely blown out like just now. It's really bothersome and harmful. I'm sure others have experienced this as well, because it's not the first time I have encountered it with your videos. My ears are ringing...

    The MOST important setting to reduce latency in any daw is reducing the Buffer. If you have a fast enough computer, try 32 or even 16 and you will have almost no latency. You will hear it chopping up if its too low for your setup!

    5 years late but....
    Smart/auto monitoring simply enables/disables software monitoring ie through your effects when you enable/disable recording. When you record you can hear mic sound through the software, when you stop you can't. That's all.
    Nearly all interfaces, 2i2 included, have a direct monitor on/off button and a mix knob. Disable all software monitoring, switch direct monitor on, turn the mix balance so you can hear the mic at the right level over any music etc playback from Audition or whatever software you're using. Set your gain appropriately and hit record. Near-zero latency monitoring.
    My guess is in this video Mike's mix is somewhere in the middle hence the doubled mic sound - one is the direct monitoring and the other is the latency-affected signal coming back through the software.
    The ONLY time you should have to worry about latency is if you MUST be able to hear real-time live effects on your voice and don't use direct monitoring on your interface.
    If you MUST use live effects/software monitoring then adjusting latency in your software can help but only to the point your computer will support - the faster you try to make it do the same task ie process and send your effected audio back to your headphones, the more it will struggle and start to produce clicks and pops.
    This isn't an audio driver, mac/pc, latency issue unless you must have live effects in your headphones as you record. It's a setup/usage issue in the majority of cases. With software monitoring sound goes mic>interface>computer>software>interface>headphones. With direct monitoring it goes mic>interface>headphones (plus music etc playback is mixed into your headphones while your mic sound is also sent to be recorded in the software on the background).

    Mac: You can lower the buffer size to 256 Samples. Adobe Audition -> Preferences -> Audio hardware -> I/O Buffer Size; this will help with the latency. For playback / editing / mixing, you can increase it again and it will be cool.

    that monitoring setting is off, 0 effects in the effects rack im on device class MME because ASIO has no playback (but that has no latency dammit) using a focus right with scarlet 2i2 60ms latency and still it is offbeat and had bad latency. If i decrease it to the lowest i can (latency: 30) it goes in slow motion and crackles horribly. Every other latency setting under 60ms does that and i have a pretty beefy computer (windows 10). I hate this so much! lol I use this to record music on beat but it's impossible with this latency. None of these suggestions solved it :/ Any other ideas? Great video all together though.

I what would you recommend I consider as to clean that recording session up? It was roughly 1 hours worth of recording. I've managed to sync the first 10-ish minutes pretty well and then it just gains its latency again after that. I've taken to generating silence on each track, but as it's needed to be finished by this coming Friday, that's not a feasible solution. I've watched a few of your videos here and they've always helped.

    All that is fine and dandy but it does nothing for someone working with a single file; someone NOT working in multitrack. I cannot seem to find any tutorials on removing latency in the one file I am working on. Working with my one file does not have the type of options you are working with. I attempted to use the Noise Reduction-Automatic Click Remover and it tells me something about CPU and latency and tells me to 'apply' which I do, and it updates, but then it doesn't show in the effects list and the audio is not changed whatsoever and I'm still stuck with sickening mouth noises. Please be kind as I am highly frustrated and just a beginner.

    • @MikeRussell
      @MikeRussell  Před 2 lety

      Adding effects will no doubt add latency as they all use varying amounts of processing power. Always record dry and add effects later in post processing.

    Mike, any idea what is causing the stuttering/ripple recording? Playback comes back stuttering. I've changed buffer, bit, dedicated RAM. my voice playback in an audio file (in a macbook pro 13inch, 8gb 256gb) stutters.

    • @MikeRussell
      @MikeRussell  Před 3 lety

      Hi Mick, have you tried saving the audio and playing back in a different player such as VLC? It's more than likely however that the stuttering is coming while recording I think.
      8GB Ram should be enough to run Audition but it also depends on what else you have running at the time and using memory. Also depends on what else is using your hard drive as well. The ideal recommendation is to have a second drive available to Audition.
      This is probably an issue better suited to our community where you can post samples and screenshots and explain in more detail

      That's dropped samples, can be caused by lack of processor, lack of available RAM, failing hard drive or misconfigured audio setup. Try joining our community where we can help you solve this in greater detail community.musicradiocreative.com/

    • @MikeRussell
      @MikeRussell  Před 4 lety

      How to lower the CPU? I'm not quite sure what you mean? If you mean lower CPU usage that all depend son what you're doing. If you have a lot of effects processing or if you have any CPU intensive effects then you'll be pushing the CPU pretty hard.
