Every bigger stage Luka has stepped onto he has exceeded expectations, immediately. In his playoff debut Luka had 42/9/7, the highest scoring playoff debut ever. That was 4 years ago. The record for most points in a Finals debut is 42. I wouldn’t be shocked….

I remember Brookly versus the Bucks a couple years ago in the playoffs. Jrue is one of my favorite players but he did not have a good series versus Kyrie before Kyrie got injured. I'd have Jrue on Luka. If Kyrie is gonna be good anyway I'd rather have Jrue impact Luka.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out the Celts are the favorites. But, the Mavs got to the finals through a very tough western conference. Anyway, why is it necessary to be so strong about who will win, when all we have to do is let them play and know for sure.

I think the Mavs should put Luka on KP. I know they like to hide him on the baseline, but he'll be able to stay with KP and keep him from deep post position. You put the big on the baseline and he's going to have to play the corner 3. Chances are Holiday will make them pay, but I think that's the chance you have to take if you want to control the paint with the big.

Consistently the media narrative is that the Celtics "just shot 3s" but there's far more to it than that otherwise they wouldn't be statistically the greatest offence ever and go 72-20. If you did, you’d understand Jaylen and Jayson attack the basket with regularity, especially when the only rim protector on the team is 25 feet from the basket defending Porzingis/Horford, and especially anytime Kyrie and Luka get switched onto them.
Also, you’d better hope the Mavs don’t switch Porzingis screens otherwise it’s BBQ chicken time in the post for Porzingis. Or do you think DJJ, Hardy, Luka or Kyrie will be able to defend him 1v1? And if you double Porzingis, it’s an easy kick-off for an open three.

I understand why people would go “oh bad matchup for Dallas with the 5 out”. But two things on why there some pretty half-assed analysis (looking at you Bonny):
1) the 5 out offense has worked for almost no one to win a title. It is usually a gimmick offense because it makes teams more predictable and in the playoffs where defenses are tighter, the 3P% shooting gets worse and the efficiency goes under water (and Boston hasn’t played a single decent defense this post season, so they have not had any practice on refining it - and have some key shooters frankly shooting pretty poorly from 3 thus far). This is not the first time the Mavs have played a 5 out offense this post season; OKC was 98%+ the offensive rating of Boston, with the definitively better player (SGA) compared to what Boston has to offer. Yes Boston has a higher floor of shooters, but Tatum is shooting 29% from 3, that is nothing to be afraid of. You know Boston wants to shoot the 3, so make them beat you with the midrange.
2) as bad as a matchup on paper Bostons Offense is for Dallas, Luka is a worse matchup against KP. This guy JUST ate the 4x DPOY alive. KP is not as good a defender as Gobert. How is more time not being spent talking about how the mavericks hammer, hammer, hammer the center depth on Boston?

Naz Reid and McDaniels shot a combined 49% from 3 on 10 attempts per game in the WCF. The Mavs won the series convincingly by sticking to their identity. Boston has been shooting 37%from deep in the playoffs. That number needs to be 40% if Boston expects to win.

Dallas had a losing record vs the Timberwolves and OKC during the regular season I think, so it’s really not a good indicator. If anything, it’s a good indicator for the Mavs.
Gafford played 5 mins and Gafford and PJ had arrived in Dallas less than a month prior. KP was also healthy and contributed heavily. Apples and oranges

Luka will change a layup/ floater into a pass that looks like a shot until the moment he switches the angle of the ball. There’s a reason he owned a much better Rudy Gobert as he tried to protect the rim.
Also, fragile is the understatement of a lifetime. KP has played in two stretches only where he was available for 7 (never 8 or more) in a row this season.
