`Starscream's Ghost' was very dark. Octane almost blown up by a bomb, shot at by a Skuxxoid, pursued by Cyclonus, Scourge and the Sweeps into the Decepticon crypt... meeting up with a dead Starscream.
All the episodes with the Quintessons were dark. The episode Webworld where they tried to cure Galvatron of his madness was dark also. Season 3 alone was more dark and violent than any of season 1-2. The Big Broadcast of 2006 where the Quint's sent out subliminal messages. That made half the galaxy go to war, was insane. The Quintesson Journal perhaps? Selling weapons to both sides of war planets. To make a profit. Doesn't get more dark and violent than that. Nightmare Planet? Ghost of Starscream? This list missed on a whole lot.
There were certain episodes that imo weren’t necessarily “dark”, but the writing, storylines, etc were above and beyond most episodes. Dark awakening and burden hardest bear are ones that come to mind. But when you look at certain episodes, megatrons master plan for example, and the scenes where the deceptions start attacking the city, in addition to the city of steel (I believe that’s the episode), when the buildings collapse, there was just something about how they could flip a switch and make things really hit hard and resonate more than others. They just don’t make em like Transformers anymore…
Also, not to get political or come up with outlandish theories, but some episodes seemed, for lack of better words, ahead of their time. For example, referencing city of steel again, look at the NY skyline and how it’s featured so prominently, and look at how the buildings collapse. If you remember that infamous day in 2001, you can’t help but think of it. And you can’t tell me Shaun Berger in megatrons master plan doesn’t remind you of a cartoonish version of someone in recent history. Then, there was the virus/plague from the return of Optimus prime, and how everyone starting hating one another. Doesn’t sound too foreign these days. Not like it did back then. All of the above episodes seemed totally ludicrous when they originally aired, but now, not so much!
We each have our own opinions. Yes I agree I loved both thunder cats and g-force. Robotech was a little before my time so I unfortunately didnt watch or remember to much from it so I cant argue that with you, but I did love and watched and collected every episode and action figures that exosquad released. I wish I still had them especially the Marsala ship bc that joint was a pretty penny back in the day when it came to buying cost so I could only imagine what it would still be worth mint in the box. An if people want to be wise asses and say its probably not worth much well then I'll say it would be f-ing priceless to me. I'll go as far as to say Exosquad is in my top but not higher than the 2 I listed bc I believe Transformers and G.I.Joe paved the way and helped create alot of other cartoons in the future. So most owe what they achieved to those 2. But I still loved it. I mean who dont love aliens and space mech's? If someone says they hate Gundam I'd called them a liar to their eye holes.
Does anyone remember the episode where at the end it turned out that everything that happened in this one was just a nightmare of the boy who was always with the Autobots? Where they look into big mirrors in one scene, and are attacked by their distorted mirror images? Who then pull them into tier mirrors. That was highly disturbing at the time.
💯💯💯 That entire battle…like I commented earlier, transformers knew how to flip the switch and get REAL when they wanted to. “It’s bad news, Scrapper. They brought out the heavy artillery”.
The explanation for "The Ultimate Doom's" episode's "darkness" was incorrect in my opinion. Megatron literally destroyed the planet by bringing Cybertron into Earth's orbit, causing many human deaths, I'm sure. This was not lost on me, not even as a 8 year old kid.
There were some that should be added. Cosmic Rust was one. Another one was the episode where Prime was disassembled and turned into a robot alligator. His head was carried around and the autobot holding his head had to pinch two wires together for him to talk. Also the episode called Dark Awakening where Rodimus and company are being chased by the decepticons and they come across an autobot mosoleum and find a zombie prime. That episode was pretty dark.
You should have watch the Episodes from the Japanesse series, there we can see Dark moments that include slavery, genocide, destruction of entire planets and the anhilitation of entire races
The G1 cartoon never talked down to kids, especially the movie and series 3 and season 4 (The Rebirth) 😊. Its allowed me to continue my fandom. My favorite cartoon ever. Its also my favorite animated movie ever!🎉
Now I see how many times michael bay took inspiration from g1, optimus fighting 3 decepticons in a factory is like in roft, and decepticons bringing cybertron to earth is literally what happened in dotm
The Ultimate Doom was dark especially when Star Scream turned the doctor into a cyborg. "Enter the Nightbird" "Megatron's Master Plan" and "Cosmic Rust" were dark to me also.
You forgot when the Quintessons revived Optimus Prime to destroy the Autobots. Prime defeats Rodimus and returned the matrix to him. The Optimus sacrificed himself and die again. But we know...it was one of the best episode of all.👏
@@73clementines the times was golden back then. Cartoons was good from the 40s to the 90s. They never sugarcoated how the world is. But when see what they show now is disappointing. So Japanese have to pick up the slack
Who is Roadamus Prime? I thought I knew all the transformers. I mean I loved it when Hot Rod became Rodimus Prime. In all seriousness, the one dark story not listed was the first return of Optimus Prime where he fights Quintesson control and sacrifices himself and we see a skeletal form of Optimus as he dies again only to be found for the next Return.
It was expected for Transformers to get violent sometimes. After all in the opening theme song "To DESTROY the evil forces of the Decepticons". Not to have tea and cupcakes with them.
I honestly remember that time. Transformers season 3 was over February and season 4 didn't come out until November that was a long wait :/ Then after those three episodes Transformers literally gave us the middle finger 🖕.
There are only a few moments in the first two seasons that can compare to the dark weirdness of the 3rd season. The animation is all over the place, but it's much better in terms of character and story. The music is cooler too. This list is not really accurate because all the darkest episodes were in season 3 and you skipped almost all of them.
Jetfire, not Starfire. Prime is the best hero of the time, followed by Grimlock. I chose Wheeljack as my first toy due to the cool look of the car, he later became my favorite autobot (blinking face i guess). Soundwave was the best of the bad guys, I was cheering for him during the movie Astrotrain fight. I was a whopping 11 in 1984, time goes by quick, awesome show.
Even though it wasn't near as good as the first 2 and different because of the future setting and more space traveling type shows season 3 had some really dark almost horror type episodes.Dark awakening was awesome, weird ones like killing jar,and ones that were just insane like the one where they took galvatron to a world to force him to get help with his mental problems. After the shitty 3 part episodes that they actually call a fourth season (I just pretend it doesn't exist transformers ended with return of Optimus Prime) Transformers just disappeared in the beginning of 1987 for years like it near existed. Then I guess about 10 years later I'm not even sure they released the beast wars show I know next to nothing about for the next generation of kids.
The movie was dark it was ok playtimes over you want something big we'll.heres a planet that consumes other worlds Let's have Ironhide get shot up and Megatron shoots him point blank.range Let's have prime and Megatron fight to the death let's have them kill each other no wait let's kill.prime but upgrade Megatron than have Megatron I his new body go crazy the kids are gonna love it very hardcore
Well, if we compare it, the innocence of the cartoons of the 1980s, with the bulgarities of today, which show a lot of sexuality and dejeneraxion, I prefer the cartoons of the 80s special transformer
Awesome video G1 series bring back great memories 👍🔥🔥🔥💯
Indeed.
Omg i bet ppl just hhaaaate your name lol but fr bayverse is way better than g1
`Starscream's Ghost' was very dark. Octane almost blown up by a bomb, shot at by a Skuxxoid, pursued by Cyclonus, Scourge and the Sweeps into the Decepticon crypt... meeting up with a dead Starscream.
I found the one with rust plague really dark. Especially when they activate warning that the deceased settlers left behind.
The fact that Dark Awakening wasn't on here completely invalidates this list.
Dark awakening should be on this list, Zombie Optimus Prime.
Its shown in the thumbnail.
@@darthdmc but it's not on the list.
One of the most dark episodes, probably the darkest one tbh

Someone replied that the fact that dark awakening was left out basically made the list invalid. I can’t disagree.
This list should have been called “These are my personal favourite episodes of the Transformers and I hope you like them too”
Optimus's sacrifice always got me because his act was never gone in vain

"Autobots
ROLL OUT!"
I love these videos love transformers classic cartoons great video
Dark Awakening is another very dark episode
Probably the darkest one
Yes it was a very memorable episode. Pretty tough to watch for a youth. The show matured by Season 3.
This was like watching the Omni Dubs again. If you know, you know.
"Fortress Maximus has come himself hahahaha"
-Some decepticon.
I wonder how Elita one and Chromia would react to the death Optimus and Ironhide?
Transformers and G.I.Joe were the best cartoons of all time. Not an opinion its facts.
What about Thunder Cats & G-Force?
I beg to differ...
ROBOTECH & EXO SQUAD
Facts

Did anyone see a cartoon called Ronin warriors back in the day? If not look it up and give it a watch. One of my top favorites

That was highly disturbing at the time.
Nightmare Planet
Ya
The beginning of five faces of darkness when the deceptions are out of energon is really dark
Grimlock: Tellatran 1 Calls, Dinobots Respond.
My favorite Line in Heavy Metal War.

Glad the Dinobots intervened preventing the Constructicons from Destroying Tellatran 1.

The Ultimate Doom was dark especially when Star Scream turned the doctor into a cyborg. "Enter the Nightbird" "Megatron's Master Plan" and "Cosmic Rust" were dark to me also.
That was Countdown to Extinction that Dr. Arkeville was turned into a Cyborg.
@@usamazahid3882 You are absolutely 💯% correct.
Fire in the Sky was a kinda dark episode where the Autobots believed Skyfire to be dead.
I was waiting for you to do transformers let's go

*One thing about Transformers that it’s graphic violence is ridiculously good for the worse or better*
Thks for the memories
I've never heard anyone mangle the names of transformers and planets so badly!🐶🙂😺
It is painful to listen to.
When perceptor was changed into a geisha girl
The city was called Metroplex!
Planet Jupeeter.
Ahh "Megatron's Master Plan". Elon Musk's and Ric Grenell's favorite TFG1 episode
Seems like it was ahead of its time, right??
Transformers anniversary is a day after my birthday
"Roadimus"
😎👍
I loved it when bumblebee was a Honda civic
All season three was dark
Glad they upped the antics and tried new dating things cause we still talk about it
Yeah. There's nothing in the earlier seasons that compares to the dark/weirdness of season 3.
When tigatron and airazor was combined into a hermaphrodite
What a sad story prime is only one leader to unite Autobots not divide it a big disapontment
He’s technically called jet fire/sky fire, but I guess the accent wasn’t that big of a problem. good list, though.
Yeah, Starfire's a DC Character not a Transformers Character.
He's sky fire in g1 but changes to jet fire later on in different iterations
Who remembers when starscream turns dr Arkville to a android. That was a dark one
It's how the cons reward their allies
In today’s climate, no way that would be shown. Dude got straight electrocuted!
