BEST HIKE IN THE WORLD? Routeburn Great Walk, New Zealand 🇳🇿

  • We started at Routeburn Shelter, made our way up to Conical Hill, and went back to Routeburn Falls Hut to spend the night there. The next day, we walked back from the Hut to the Routeburn Shelter. Unfortunately, we didn't book the entire track, one reason is that the Routeburn track is not a loop so you would need to have a transfer on the other side so we feel we did it the best way to avoid paying high fees to get us back to the car park.
Drone footage was purchased with a license from a 3rd party.

That is a very narrow and ignorant opinion. We don't need foreign short term visitors telling us how to suck eggs. You are not "special" because you visit from Europe.
      People die on this route.

The trick to steep climbs is to breathe really deep right into your belly and hold for two to three counts then all the way out. Your muscles and organs will love you for it. Thank you I'm a first time viewer and look forward to watching all your posts.

Thank you for everything you guys must do behind the scenes to make us feel like we're with you on these adventures.
One thing, ignore the comments telling you to stop saying "sheeps". It's a classic NZ prank. "Sheeps" is 100% correct and if you incorrectly talk about a group of "sheep" everybody will laugh at you. Kiwis can have a mean sense of humour.

Ultimate Hikes own the huts next to the doc huts. It is guided and you carry change of clothes and other personal items needed. They cook dinner, breakfast and make your lunch for next day. There are rooms with multiple beds or pay a lot more for en-suite room. We’re in our 60’s and love tramping so having the option of having our food cooked for us - the ultimate luxury. The helicopter is only used for bringing in supplies and change of staff!

I’ve done the Routeburn Track twice, first time when I was only 9 years old, but it was only the first part on a day trip. Again in my 20s. It’s certainly very very beautiful. The waters cold, ice melt! Even as a New Zealander it never ceases to amaze me how beautiful our country is. This track as well as the Able Tasman National Park Track, has some of the most scenery in the world. New Zealand is unique in the fact that we have no wild animals or poisonous creatures to worry about, the only thing that is dangerous is that the weather m, it can change very quickly, even in the summer months, it pays to always be prepared. The hire of a personal locator beacon for some of the more secluded tracks is a must. The weather catches tourists and even locals off guard every year unfortunately. It pays to always carry a little more food and extra protective clothing.
I feel very blessed to call this country home and it really is such a buzz to see people come here and get such a great amount of pleasure in seeing what we have to offer. Glad you loved it! Have fun ❤

Congrats on ticking off another great walk. Routebourne is probably the most scenic. The guided walks just mean you get fed and housed in beds so you carry a day pack as everything else is taken care of… hot showers and comfortable lounges to hang out in after a days trekking. I did the Milford with my family as a teenager and my Grandad paid for the luxury version. I’ve completed three more doing it the hard way..

For when it's too noisy to sleep, you should carry a pack of foam ear plugs. They're really small and soft and you just roll them thin, then insert them in your ears where they expand and block out most sound. Most hardware and general stores should have them, and they only cost a few bucks for a pack.👍

Amazing walk.. I have to agree it is one of the most beautiful tracks in the world. I'm so lucky to live in New Zealand. It is one or the most beautiful country the world. Beautiful sceneries everywhere. I've done Routeburn track a couple of months ago in Dec 2023. It would even more beautiful if you continued until the Mackenzie Hut which is just beside Mackenzie Lake, it's just as beautiful. Love your enthusiasm.
One point though. Sheep is the word for one sheep and multiple sheep. A sheep or acouple of sheep or a flock of sheep. Not sheep's please
