Who said that budget packs can't be awesome?
Well, the Tomtoc Navigator-T66 Travel Laptop Backpack 40L is now here to prove you wrong!
For a budget pack, we can say that this pack is sick! It's got great aesthetic and cool features. Its compression straps at the front are one of them as they make your stuff snug and cozy. It also has a clamshell-style opening so your access to the main compartment isn't compromised. Its shoulder straps are immaculate too. They're super comfy and to be honest, they remind us of Aer's.
Although there are a lot of budget-friendly packs out there, this pack is one of the few that really stands out!

That pack is my go to gift for lots of people.
you are a good gifter!
I am sooo happy, that you finally made a review of this backpack, so thank you for that!
Tomtoc really has some high quality and at the same time affordable bags! You definitely should keep an eye out for them. Your review is on spot for me: It is a very though backpack, comfy to wear, has a lot of space (even if it might be a little less than 40 L). It is great for weekend trip, looks nice and I think it is really sturdy. What I do not really like is, that it is veeery dark inside because of the black fabric. I think it is a trade-off for the price. I am hoping for an update in the futue.
What I really want to point out is that its own weight is less than most of other really good backpacks (that you also reviewed). For me this was very important because I wanted a backpack to use as carry-on luggage. And If the bag is too heavy, you loose weight capacity for your stuff to pack. Especially if you have electronic stuff. So every 100 grams count.
Regarding the compression straps: Yes, it might be harder for accessibility, but I actually like them, because it feels more safe for me.
I got this bag last year and so far I used it for weekend trips going by car or airplane and also for a 1 month trip to Vietnam. It served me well. Oh and it is nice for security check, because of the clamshell tech compartment.
This backpack is for people who really like or are ok with it being really basic. It has not a lot of organisation, especially for small stuff like a pen or anything like that. But all my personal stuff like passport, phone, wallet, keys, medication and so on I always carry in my slingbag (either the tomtoc 4 L one, or my Pinqponq Tetrik). The Navigator Backpack goes into the cabin and all my personal stuff is always on my body.
To anyone who buys this backpack I wish you a lot of fun with it. :)
Thanks for your epic comment!
@@Nomads.Nation My pleasure.
Love your reviews man
thanks so much dude! this one was a fun one
Yes, yes you are a backpack nerd and you give great reviews!
Ha thanks so much!
Great stuff. I have the recent 28l version of this bag and just used it on its first trip. Worked great! I had the 40L for a couple minutes, but just wasn't quite right for me for a larger 1 bag travel bag (I also agree that it did not feel near 40L of capacity and even seemed decently less than my 35L Tortuga Setout). That being said, for the price, it's really hard to complain about this bag. They did a lot of cool things and I think it's a great bag that punches way above its price tag.
An interesting note on the 28L version of this bag is that they actually put some padding on the side grab handle which, as you pointed out, is not the case on the larger 40L version oddly enough,
100% agree!
The flappy thing in the main compartment is for structure to help it self stand (i think). It doesn’t really stand up by itself without it down.
I think so as well
Saw a pack hacker review and they said for structure in duffel mode... Nice to have it as a flap so you can compress to small bag otherwise you'd airways have that wide bottom.
@@jpmccarthy33 makes sense!
@@Nomads.Nation actually it didn't, airways should be always lol dang autocorrect
@@jpmccarthy33 ha all good I got the gist 😉
I've been having fun watching yor reviews. Thanks for making them! I would lobe to see a review of some of the Topo designs travel packs, the 30 and 40 liter global travel packs and the rollaboard that is similar
Thanks so much! Hoping to review Topo bags soon
Great review. I just came back from 3 weeks in Europe and used this bag as my primary luggage... it worked great overall, even for lengthy walks from the airport to hotel. The only thing I really missed was a hip strap, that would've been great to have!
Agreed! I forgot to mention the lack of a hip belt being a con
Very nice review. I own this backpack and everything you said (pros and cons) are true…
Great to hear!
Thank you for your time and posting. So many backpacks, it's incredible. This looks good, but, how noisy is it? Some bags I love for their size, pockets, etc., but are too noisy when you handle them. :) I've looked 'a little'. Do you ever review ebags? Thank you again.
Thanks so much! Not noisy in my opinion, also never reviewed an ebag yet but hoping to soon
Man! I’ve been waiting for you to review this bag! Good to know about the capacity… Would you say the main compartment packs tighter than the Aer TP3, or is it a bit more storage than that? Bigger or smaller than the Nomatic 40L?
tighter than both ATP3 and Nomatic 40L in my opinion
Thanks for the detailed review :) i watch every review of this backpack and will get in this black Friday (i hope, with some discount)
For the "black hole thing", just to bring an idea (sorry, im new to this "backpack world", so maybe the idea is not good...)
What about have some compression cubes with color, to throw inside a black backpack?
Or colourful cubes are more expensive?
Good idea! Colorful cubes will help a bit for sure 👍🏽
I've traveled with this several times. Only main issue i have is the compression straps get in the way for some compartments, have to take extra steps to get into them
I like the pull away stow area to main compartment from the back, reminds me peak design packing cubes
The flap just helps the backpack stand upright (especially if you have he main compartment filled with clothes)
Side handle is basically just an easy grab/slide out from overhead bin and not meant for carry imo
Agreed on the compression straps
Best bag ever! Took it to Vietnam for a week and did the job. My only caveat is the water bottle holder, wish it was deeper. The bag works great with compartment bags. Personal item approved when flying Spirit, United, ANA, and American for me.
Agreed on the water bottle holder
Love my Navigator-T24. TomToc is easy bang for the buck. A nice step up from generic basic Amazon stuff. Only thing is they kinda smaller volume than advertised.
MUCH smaller than advertised in my opinion, but damn, overall a great budget brand
good review!
Glad you enjoyed it
All right, no matter how budget friendly TomTocs are, they must be able to afford a brighter inner materials in their bags. It's like a dungeon in there. I've got two of their other bags and although I like every external and organisational aspect of 'em, the-interiors-are-too-dark. Even if it's not totally dark and they make it gray-ish, still. Their light blue interior in some bags is a joke, it just reveals how "cheapo" they are. Raise the price with 10 bucks but give us orange, white, baige.... Otherwise, a strong 9 out of 10 for all their bags, specially slings. Love them!
agreed, and it seems like they are starting to add brighter interiors to some of their bags, so hopefully more coming soon!
Been wanting to get this for shorter trips.
Great bag for the price
Theres sales often for this bag so I got mine for 65 bucks. This is the most high quality for the price and has shown 0 wear for last 2 years for me going all over America and Cancun. Cheap enough it wont hurt if damaged but regardless Tom Toc warranty is pretty good. When even loaded to the max the bag feels really really comfy. Im looking to upgrade to higher tier bag but god damn is this a good bang for your buck bag
Totally agreed, probably the best value bag I’ve ever reviewed
I couldn't choose between the big or small version of the bag, so I ended up getting both. I did have an incident where I couldn't fit the bag under a United seat recently and I got it specifically because it didn't stick out as much as my old bag, but I may have overpacked it, or even more likely my stuff shifted funny and I was in such a rush to get into my seat that I didn't have time to wedge it underneath, but that's definitely something to consider if you plan on traveling with this bag. I've been lucky so far and have been able to get it in the cargo space above the seat, and the 2 times I had to put it under the seat it wasn't too terrible.
Ultimately I do not regret getting this bag one bit, I just wish the side pockets were designed slightly better to accommodate a nice water bottle without it feeling like it's gonna fall out.
thanks for your feedback! There are much better water bottle holders out there, but those bags are at significantly higher price points
Hi there! We really appreciate your feedback, super helpful! There is one thing that caught our attention as you said you couldn't choose between the large or small version, and we've noticed that some people are having a hard time choosing the right size as well. Could you let us know if our size descriptions aren't clear enough or if there's anything we can improve? Your feedback on this would be awesome and so valuable to us!
Thanks for the review! What’s the largest backpack you recommend that also has a luggage pass thru? I used to get Tumi’s for business travel but they lack capacity if you want to use it for personal use.
Probably Aer Travel Pack 3
@@Nomads.Nation thanks! I also have the north face router which is supposedly 40L but I wish it had a luggage pass through.
Can you review the Usuza Canvas please, I would like to hear what you think about it. Thinking of getting it with the sale they're currently having on it.
I'll add it to our (very very long) wish list, thanks for the rec!
What’s the bag rack you use as your background? My collection needs love!!!
I got it on Etsy for $600 USD - seller name is SilverBeardLampCo - it's been amazing!
I have a lot of tomtoc stuff to protect me devices, I was tempted to get their backpacks a while before I got my aer tp3 bag
ATP3 is better than anything Tomtoc makes, but still got mad love for Tomtoc
That 13 inch macbook can fit in the tablet pocket. That's where you should put it. Even a 14 inch macbook pro fits there pretty well
nice!
I have this backpack and I LOVE IT! I agree it doesn't look like a 40L backpack, it's smaller, but it can fit A LOT. your cons are actually pros to me, specially the black inside ahahah. Very confotable, I was impressed with that. Great video
thanks so much!
Been wondering about this bag. I'm new to one bag and wanted to start but I couldn't justify spending anything over CAD250.00 and a lot of the recommended ones are up there after the conversion from USD to CAD, plus some are not even available up north.
that's the beauty of Tomtoc - such great prices
Cant find your review to the matein travel backpack aaron(not in the description). I didnt know you made a review on it.
Also more budget reviews like this please (although budget for me is more like 50-60 usd, but this is much much more pallatable than the 300+ backpacks i see here 😅)
we haven't done the Matein review yet, hopefully soon! And yes, more budget bag reviews coming :)
@@Nomads.Nation waiting for the matein review! And yay for more budget review from you
@@mokisan don’t hold your breath it’s gonna be a while haha, but we should get to the Matein review… eventually 😬
Would love to see a Decathalon 500 organizer review at some point. Been seeing it a bunch in the airport recently.
@@semzip8558 thanks for the rec!
Agreed about the size, it does not seem 40L. I returned it and got the Bange 45L, going to try that on my next trip
looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it!
are the buckles resistant enough to actually compress the bag without let it go?
had the problem on a cheap bag (which was actually not a lot cheaper than this one)
in my limited experience, yes
Thanks for the answer man :)
@@wardeadfr anytime!
I have this bag over year now and it's been great. amazing value for money. highly recommended. btw I don't think its a 40 litre bag.
agreed and agreed
Will this one fit in the budget airlines personal item measurements.
depends on the airline, but I'd say mostly no
How would Navigator-T66 compare to the 40 L Hiking Backpack - Travel 500 in this category?
I've never heard of the Travel 500 bag, so I can't say unfortunately.
Another good budget travel backpack is the NH Escape 500 bags from Decathlon that comes in either 23l, 32l and 23l rolltop version. Even cheaper than the Tomtoc
I’ll check it out!
I bought this bag as well as a sling from TomToc; it’s pretty good for short trips.
For the price? Absolutely
COuld you review the Forclaz 40 L of Decathlon? Its actually cool
I’ll add to our (very very long) wish list 💪🏻
still using my AER Track pack 2 😅
still unable find any that is as good or better
Love it, no need to upgrade is it’s working 💪🏻
Could you review Tomtocs Navigator T-61 Rolltop?
It’s on our wish list!
Looks like a well thought out bag, looks nice too, I'd never guess it was $80 just by looking at it.
Agreed all around
How much do 40L backpacks usually cost? price range? this one looks great
Anywhere from $40 USD to $400 USD depending on the quality of materials. This bag offers amazing value for the price
I wish they would change all their bags over to the newer minimal logo instead of that one on this bag. I really dislike their old logo. I feel like it makes their bags look cheaper. They have such great bang-for-the-buck bags.
I don’t like either logo personally lol but the new one might be slightly better
11:33 New T66 bags have padding on that side grip.
Good to know, cheers!
So, which is worse? Black hole interior or neon yellow?
For me, that’s a hard pick haha… umm….Depends on the shade of yellow, but I’d probably prefer black
I’ll take black over neon yellow/neon green. I like the light grey some brands use it creates visibility without lighting the Beacons of Gondor
@@elanthys 😂 😂
Does This come in 27L
not sure tbh
Tomtoc!
for the win!
I just got this today and for £60 UK it's a great bag, but it's miles off the quality of an Osprey 40L Farpoint. I am going to return mine. I hated the bag design in real life.
It’s a great bag but you hate the design? 🤔
@@Nomads.Nation Yes mate. Great bag for £60 but It's just not for me. I can appreciate it's a good bag for the money though.
@@MrRawUK got it!
1 ounce Yeti???
liter*
1 ounce bottle more like 1 liter, I’m pretty sure 1oz fits in there 😜
oops! that's what I meant haha
DARK INSIDE👻
SO DARK 😧
No waist belt...
good call! I forgot to mention this, def not ideal in a larger travel bag
Budget on a Budgie.
🤑
First😊
❤️
After this I washed my flaps...
Its $82 bucks plus tax. Most normal people are going to not want to spend over $50 for a bag like this. I think were losing touch of what budget, mid-tier and high end is. Not just in this video but keyboards and all kinds of consumer products across the board.
$80 for a travel pack is definitely budget in most developed regions in 2024.
when we talk $50 the only quality bag I think is some of the decathlon bags. But honestly the more budget you push corners get cut either in materials, customer support, or exploitation of workers & materials. I think most consumers that want something quality that will last multiple trips will be smart enough to know how to spend wisely wanting a travel pack for $50 is just not going to be a great experience. And honestly going from the $50 range to the $90-$120 range is a HUGE step up and is going to be very noticeable.
@AlyxAugust Im not arguing that cheaper bags aren't cheaply made here.
This is definitely budget compared to the $200-300 travel bags out there. I recommended my friend take it on a trip to the Balkans last week because he didn't want to spend a lot of money on a bag. He liked it a lot but agreed with Aaron that it's not a 40L more like a 35L. Their slings are decent and hold up well for the price. Great, objective review Aaron.
@user-oy7nr4dk7x No, its mid tier. $250-$400 is the high end of the market.
